In Achile’s house, there’s noise and chaos all the time: his brothers argue, the dog barks, his sister and mother turn their stereos up and there are people coming in and out all the time. You
can’t hear yourself think! The little boy likes to go wandering
along the green and silent river. It’s beautiful there, but also a
little strange. Achile always finds Angelo, a funny little green
creature, who makes peoples’ dreams come true. Today what
Achile wants most of all is a little calm. But when he goes home,
everything is different, there’s nobody talking, nobody laughing,
everybody is working and whispering. Suddenly the house feels
very cold. Now Achile wants things back the way they were…

Le Nez
Camille Dolladille
THE NOSE
Adapted from Nikolai Gogol’s short story
Author-Illustrator: Camille Dolladille
Welcome to a weird and wonderful world! One morning a barber
finds a nose in his loaf of bread. Horror of horrors! It belongs to
one of his customers. The barber tries to get rid of the nose and
throws it off a bridge. But the next day, what does he see? The
nose. Parading and prancing around in the street, celebrating
being so free. Medical students come from all around to study the
nose; women rush up to talk to it. One morning, leaving church, the
nose comes face-to-face with its owner, and abracadabra! No one
knows how! Suddenly the nose is right back where it belongs in the
middle of the bereft man’s face. The man is absolutely delighted
to get his appearance back, not to mention his popularity.
THE MYSTERY OF THE WILD BEASTS
Author-Illustrator: Sébastien Orsini
From the Alligator to the Zebra, this alphabet of animals and lino-engravings introduces to the mysterious
world of wild animals. Insects, mammals, birds and
reptiles are hidden on the pages, and mingle in with
the stones, earth and trees around them. This extraordinary book gives the impression that we really are
out in the savannah staring these wild creatures between the eyes.

THE DUMB-THING COMPETITION
Author: Gilles Abier
Le concours
de bêtises
Illustrator: Benoît Perroud
Léa, Louis and Léo are brothers and sisters. This morning as they sit in
their shared bedroom, there is one big question troubling them: who is
their mother’s favourite? Léa thinks it’s Louis, but Louis is sure it’s Léo,
while Léo is convinced it’s Léa. The best way to find out is to stage a
competition: each has to do the dumbest possible thing. One after the
other, the children spill glasses of orange juice on their mother’s lap,
they break her favourite plates, and turn a simple trip to the park into
a nightmare journey to hell. So? Who will get told off the most? And who
is her favourite?

Winter is here! Time for hot chocolate and
snowmen. But what happens to snowmen when
we go to bed? What if they start moving and
singing and falling in love? Mister Snow has
fallen desperately in love and his heart beats

he declare his love? He has to be fast, because
spring is on its way…

THE BLOUSE OF A HAPPY WOMAN
Author: Susie Morgenstern
Illustrator: Batia Kolton
Music: Louis Dunoyer de Segonzac
King Georgieporgie XIII has all he needs to be happy. He is a good and
generous King. His only concern is Queen Annabellastella. While he is
madly in love with her, she refuses him to go anywhere near her. But,
if the problem endures, how will they ever have any little princes and
princesses? The King goes out of his way to rid her of her melancholy:
walks, sewing, painting, nothing works. The only activity that appeals
is baking cakes. In fact so fond is she of baking that the Queen grows
so fat she cannot get out of bed. According to a wise man, the only
remedy possible is to bring her back the blouse of a happy woman.
The king and his armies travel the length and breadth of the kingdom
and find just the right woman: her name is Manyamimi. When the
Queen touches the blouse, her taste for life returns, and she finally
confesses to the King how she has fallen in love with the royal baker!
Georgieporgie is very understanding and he lets her leave - because
he himself has just fallen madly in love with… Manyamimi.

But how would she ever get her subjects to love her? A
god appeared and told her that if she learnt to listen to
the drums of her lands, the pahus, they would reveal
their secret. Unfortunately, the drums sang their song
but the young princess didn’t understand a word of what
they had to say. She was so frustrated she got very angry
with them. On hearing the pahus, the elements grew wild
and the drums fell silent. To make amends, Aimata went
to find the wise man of the village and asked him for
help. He offered to stay by her side to learn to seek out
and assemble the perfect pahu. The days went by and
gradually the princess learned to listen.

It’s time to go back to school. Alexis is terribly keen to see his friends

Alexis asks for help from his father, his sister and grandfather, but nothing works. He can already see the other children making fun of him.
But when Alexis arrives at school he sees that all his friends are equally
as befuddled by the day and have dressed themselves in totally odd
clothes. Everybody looks at each other and bursts out laughing. They’re
in for a great year!

However, Thibaud, one of his classmate shows a great interest in him.
Thibaud is the kind of boy that Aurélien would normally avoid: popular,
handsome, nonchalant... When Thibaud invites Aurélien to a party,
Aurélien doesn’t know what to think of it and whether Thibaud can be
trusted. Go out? Have fun? Dance? Aurélien is shattered, as he has
been isolating himself for four years now: Shit. A friend. Me who swore
to... That’s just what I needed.

THE NOTEBOOK FROM THE END OF THE WORLD
Author: Françoise Grard
Illustrator: Agnès Maupré
Anna’s dad isn’t fond of Christmas. What he most likes about Christmas day
is taking his family for a long walk in the blustering wind at the end of the
beach. However, this year, Anna loses the car keys in the sand and their walk
takes ages. While Dad goes looking for help, Anna takes refuge with her mum
and brother in a bunker sheltered from the wind and cold. Anna discovers a
rucksack containing a diary. The author, a boy, has apparently been adopted. In the diary he talks several times about Théo, also adopted, who seems
to be in some kind of danger because of his wild temperament. Anna has
the impression the secret writer is talking to her. She wants to find out more
and tries to find the boy.
LI, THE YOUNG ARCHER OF THE KING OF CHINA
Author: Pascal Vatinel
Illustrator: Peggy Adam
After Bao and the Jade dragon, Lao Sheng tells Spring Flower a new legend,
that of Li, the young archer of the King of China. At that time the King of
China wasn’t very popular because he only thought about his own pleasures
and never about those of his people. His cruelty made the spirit of the mountains angry. Li was the son of the captain of the royal guard, but he was a
daydreamer and had little motivation for the military arts. The boy however
was a magnificent archer and one day the boy had the honour to be invited
on a royal hunt. However, when the moment came to fire the arrow, he
couldn’t bring himself, and the beautiful bird was spared. The bird started
talking to him and telling him what to do. Li had to draw on all his courage
and generosity to reconcile the King of China and the spirit of the mountain,
the Jade Emperor, and thus save the kingdom.
Thibaud hustles the young man and forces him to come out of his isolation. Aurélien once again enjoys being surrounded by friends, making people laugh and being attractive. One evening, Thibaud even
manages to convince Aurélien to take part in a slam poetry. Little by
little, Aurélien begins to appreciate this strange mix of spoken wordartists, their rituals, their history... he begins to write himself and finally manages to perform. Amid the energy of the verse and in the
warmth of the burgeoning friendship, Aurélien finally manages to
break the ice around him and is able to unburden himself of a secret
of a terrible loss in his life.

CHRISTMAS IN THE CUPBOARD
Author: Gilles Abier
Illustrator: Hélène Georges
This year, Robin doesn’t want anything for Christmas because his mum
doesn’t have the money to buy him presents. His friends are at first dumbfounded but then they all rally around: one by one all the children in the
building decide to give up presents for Christmas. The parents are bewildered. But Robin’s mother has an idea: what if they organised a big feast to
get together everybody who is down on their luck. As the days go by, the
guest list gets longer and the ideas come thick and fast: everyone is to bring
something they like eating to share, as well as gifts that cost nothing. This
unlikely Christmas is sure to become a Christmas to remember.

GAMES IN THE CITY
Author: Christine Dodos-Ungerer
Illustrator: Dominique Corbasson
A book of games and activities centred on the city: architecture,
urban planning, rivers and canals, and transport systems, all of
these aspects inspired the author to dream up entertaining city
trails as she wondered around Rome, Paris, and London. Children
learn how to read a map and identify what a building is used for.
They can also play at imagining what is going on inside a building.
There are history and geography thrown in, and we follow the trail
of the animals that haunt the pavements. If you’re feeling romantic there is even a chance to write a declaration of love.

MY NIGHT OF LOVE
Author: Frédérique Deghelt
She is 15 years old and thinks she’s a real idiot. However can she believe
that a 21 year old boy is interested in her? However can she believe he
desires her? But that’s what he said, and again she hears him whisper
in her ear: “Soon, you and me are going to spend the night together,
making love.” No other boy had ever told her such things. She desperately does want to believe him, even if she has seen him kissing another girl. Too many times she has played out the brain-movie of their
first night of love together that she refuses to give in.
A VEIL OF SILENCE
Author: Patrick Goujon
He can’t get to sleep. By night, thoughts run around his head and stop
him drifting off. Ever since the news was broken on the estate: the news
of the scooter accident. Demba. He didn’t pull through. He had desperately wanted the boy to die. Demba stole his cap from him, beat
him up and made him look stupid in front of everyone. Die, Demba,
die! But as soon as the words emerge they sound like a curse. An imaginary dialogue sparks up in his mind so that at last he can resolve his
issues with the boy who is no more.

MONSTRES
MONSTERS & LEGENDS
Author: Davide Cali
Illustrator: Gabriella Giandelli
Popular tales are full of monsters that science has relegated to the
status of mythology and superstition. Of course the creatures are
not at all magical or supernatural. If our ancestors believed in mermaids, unicorns and cyclopes, it was not that they were mad. They
were simply unenlightened and impressionable. Fear has an ability
to transform the unknown into something bigger and scarier. However, seafarers and fishermen, scholars and writers from the past
all saw something, but what? Thus at the origin of the myth of the
mermaid is the sea mammal, the dugong; the breasts of the female
of the species resemble those of a woman. And what if the terrible
kraken, so feared by sailors, was none other than a giant squid?
A delightful journey into fearsome unknown worlds of dragons,
vampires, yetis and gremlins, magnificently illustrated by Gabriella Giandelli.

OPEN YOUR EYES TO THE CITY AND GARDENS
When a small piece of nature comes to town, one is surprised by the
diversity of wild beasts to be observed. With this picture book, children will learn to identify birds, insects, and small mammals, but
also the trees and plants they walk past everyday, whether on a balcony, in a garden or park. A book that encourages children to respect
nature, even when rarified in the city.

ENDANGERED ANIMALS
Author-Illustrator: Dimitri Delmas
There’s no question about it: we are currently in the heart of the
6th mass extinction of living species since the dawn of time. And
this genocide is due to human activity. Scientists around the
world agree that species must be protected as much as possible.
The simple attractive approach of this album is to present the
endangered species as black silhouettes. The hand-drawings
have been produced from International Union for the Conservation of Nature sources and when they are superimposed they
form another species, which becomes the focus for attention;
On the following double page, each animal and the danger facing
them is described in more detail.
An original and striking work on the theme of biodiversity.
DE CROATIE
TALES FROM CROATIA
Authors: Axelle Hutchings and Vlatka Valentic
Illustrator: Catherine Chardonnay
Popular Croatian tales have a long tradition based on the mythology that
Croats have inherited from their ancient Slav lands, on the other side of
the Carpathian Mountains. In the Balkans and on the shores of the Adriatic, Christianity rejected these tales as heresy. In the Middle Ages, the Crusades had a huge influence and local tales developed cosmopolitan twists.
Various invaders left their mark on the oral tradition by stoking their heroic
legacy. Here we discover colourful characters, like Prince Marko or the
fairy Ravijola; we learn why the sheep’s tale is longer than a goat’s tale.
And we find familiar stories like the tale of the Frog Princess.

PIRATES AND CORSAIRS STEP-BY-STEP
Authors: Éric Dars and Éric Teyssier
Illustrator: Laurent Kling
Feared by sailors, pirates have plundered the seas since Antiquity, because
the question of who rules over the oceans has always had huge economic
stakes. The authors of Romans step-by-step and Ancient Greece stepby-step here introduce us to a special world where violence, abduction
and theft rules strong. It tells the tale of the pirates, corsairs and buccaneers who, even today, spread their reign of terror over the oceans and
ports. It also shows their more positive heritage: the new lands they discovered and the legends they have left. All their colourful names are here:
from Blackbeard to Jack Rackham, from Jean Bart to Dugay-Trouin, these
naughty yet intrepid outlaws have always set us dreaming.

Winston Churchill was born in 1874 during the reign of Queen
Victoria and died in 1965. First he joined the army and then went
into journalism before ruling over English politics for more than
thirty years. He led the English people through the war,
staunchly supported them through the Blitzkrieg, and became
one of the artisans of the reconstruction of the world after the
Second World War. He was eccentric and brilliant and had an
amazing way with words.

ROBESPIERRE
Author: Philippe Lechermeier
Illustrator: Guillaume Long
A central figure of the French Revolution, Robespierre is known
as the man behind the Terror, that dark period of French history
when heads fell “like roofing tiles”, as Fouquier-Tinville said.
The period only came to an end with the execution of Robespierre himself. Philippe Lechermeier presents us the ambiguities
and paradoxes of the fine political strategist, who couldn’t
escape the temptation of dictatorship.

SOUND STEP-BY-STEP
Author: Antonio Fischetti
Illustrator: Marion Puech
From birth and even before, sound is constantly around us: voices, animal
noises, music, tools, and vehicles produce all manner of sounds that we
experience through our ears. An acoustics expert shows us the secrets of
the science of sound: the emission and reception of sound, how ultrasound
is used for scanning, and also how to listen and decode the language of
animals. The work also tells of the way the voice changes at puberty (especially among boys), and provides a warning to music fans how delicate
the ear is, and how it should never be exposed to volumes too loud.

HARVEY MILK: “NO TO HOMOPHOBIA”
Author: Safia Amor
In 1978, Harvey Milk, a San Francisco city councillor, was assassinated in his office by one of his former homophobic colleagues. Safia
Amor’s novel skilfully resurrects the man’s struggles for the recognition of gay rights in the United States. As a teenager in New York,
Harvey Milk became aware of his difference and constantly attempted to make society become aware of the issues. He moved to San
Francisco with his partner in the 1970s and, supported by the West
Coast gay community, became an active gay rights militant. After
his death he became a symbol of the community and the filmmaker,
Gus Van Sant, devoted a film to his life in 2008.

WORLD RUGBY ATLAS

The mysterious oval land of “Ovalie”, inhabited by aficionados of rugby union, is not to be found on maps.
Because Ovalie has no borders. Born in England, it set
down deep roots in the British Isles and in France before
crossing oceans through colonisation, to Australia, New
Zealand and South Africa. It even travelled to Argentina,
Romania and Georgia. Each nation who adopted the sport
gave it a style and integrated it into their own culture.

LEONARD PELTIER: “NO TO THE MASSACRE OF THE AMERINDIAN PEOPLE”
Author: Elsa Solal
Since 1976, Leonard Peltier has been imprisoned in a US jail for the
murder of two FBI agents. Peltier, an Amerindian militant and member
of the American Indian Movement, has always claimed his innocence.
The trial was weighted against him and evidence was falsified. Up to
now he has never been allowed to force an appeal. Elsa Solal’s dynamic novel gives him a voice, in dialogue with that of John, the investigative journalist who is eager to find out the truth. Both look at
the persecution the Indians have suffered, and still suffer, in the land
of the free and the brave.
EMILE ZOLA: “NO TO MISCARRIAGES OF JUSTICE”
Author: Murielle Szac
In 1898, the writer Emile Zola appeared before the courts for slander.
In his manifesto, entitled “J’accuse!” published on the front page of
a newspaper, he called into question the prosecution in the sentencing of Captain Dreyfus to forced labour, after he was wrongly sentenced for espionage. During the trial, the battle between those for
and against the Captain was carried out against a background of
anti-Semitism and rent late 19th-century French society in twain.
Murielle Szac’s novel tells of the events through the voice of Alexandrine, the great writer’s legitimate wife. Her unfamiliar voice tells of
her admiration and love for her “Mimi” but also betrays great clarity
and sang-froid in the heart of the dramatic events.
HIP-HOP
Author: Marie-Christine Vernay
What did happened in the 1980s when hip-hop emerged from the
American ghettos to take root in faraway France? How come it appeals to more and more people from all age groups and levels of society? Born in the heart of the ghetto, hip-hop advocates the
importance of the individual in society, and has managed to evolve
in tune to the economy and world events, even if politically there are
still issues. One of the strengths of the genre is its ability to shine
around the world. Hip-hop is a media child, and even before Facebook, its key figures were tuned into free radio and television. Thirty
years later, hip-hop is everywhere in a whole host of different forms,
from the streets of Paris to theatres, television studios and video
clips. Even if purists accuse the more commercial forms of sellingout, it has won over hearts, minds and audiences, overturning the
stereotype of the suburbs as a dead-end home for the poor, misfits
and delinquents.
