Non-economically active
From Census of Population and Housing 2011, a total of 115,900 persons 15years and over was recorded. From this number there
were 47,881 people who were economically active but 67,990 were not economically active. For the economically active
population, the percentage (72.6) of males participated was more than (27.4) for females. On the other hand the results showed
quite the contrary with 37 percent for males and 64 percent females in non active activities. The wide gap indicates the high
proportion of men engaged in subsistence work compared to women is expected in Samoa as men more likely to deal with heavy
manual labour work outside the house such as farming and fishing activities. In contrast, non economic activities like housework
duties and care as well as those attending schools during reference period are more likely to be dominated by females.
