LE CONCOURS INTERNATIONAL
DE JEUNES CHEFS
D’ORCHESTRE DE BESANÇON
Fondé en 1951 sous l’égide du Festival de musique de Besançon
Franche-Comté, le Concours international de jeunes chefs
d’orchestre s’est imposé rapidement comme la plus prestigieuse
manifestation de sa catégorie. Annuel jusqu’en 1992, il a depuis
adopté un rythme biennal.
Répertoire classique, romantique, du 20e siècle, musique
contemporaine, oratorio, opéra… Il n’est pas un concours de
direction au monde plus complet que celui de Besançon : véritable
marathon pour les candidats autant que pour le public !
Le Concours est ouvert à tous les artistes qui souhaitent devenir
chef d’orchestre professionnel, quel que soit leur parcours, leur
formation ou leur expérience, aucun diplôme préalable n’est exigé.
Après les présélections à Berlin, Besançon, Montréal ou Pékin,
seuls 20 candidats sont admis aux épreuves avec orchestre à
Besançon en septembre, un seul remporte le Grand Prix !
En 2013, plus de 290 candidats s’étaient inscrits pour les épreuves
de présélections.

Established in 1951 by the Besançon International Music
Festival, the Besançon International Competition for Young
Conductors soon became the most prestigious event of its kind.
It took place every year until 1992, and thereafter every 2 years.
With a repertoire which spans classical, romantic, 20th century,
and contemporary music, as well as oratorio and opera, the
Besançon Conducting Competition is the most complete
competition in the world: a real marathon, not only for the
candidates but also for the public.
The Competition is open to all artists who wish to become
professional conductors, whatever their training or their
experience; no previous diploma is required. After preselections
in Berlin, Besançon, Montreal or Beijing, only 20 candidates
will be invited to Besançon in September to audition with the
orchestra; only one Grand prize will be awarded!
In 2013, over 290 candidates of about forty nationalities
registered for preselections.

CHEF D’ORCHESTRE ASSOCIÉ AU FESTIVAL, ASSOCIATE CONDUCTOR
Né à Toledo (USA), il a été le directeur
musical
du
Philharmonique
de
Brooklyn, du Staatsoper de Stuttgart,
de l’Opéra de Bonn, chef principal du
Philharmonique de la Radio de Vienne
et de l’orchestre Bruckner de Linz. Il
est à la tête de l’Orchestre symphonique de Bâle depuis 2009,
de l’Orchestre Français des Jeunes depuis 2011.
Born in Toledo (USA), he was the music director of the Brooklyn
Philharmonic, the Stuttgart State Opera, the Opera Bonn,
principal conductor of the Philharmonic of Vienna Radio and
Bruckner Orchestra Linz. He leads the Sinfonieorchester Basel
since 2009 and the French Youth Orchestra since 2011.

GUILLAUME CONNESSON (COMPOSITEUR, COMPOSER)
EN RÉSIDENCE AU FESTIVAL, IN RESIDENCE
Il a étudié au Conservatoire de BoulogneBillancourt, ainsi qu’au Conservatoire
national de Paris ; il est actuellement
professeur d’orchestration au Conservatoire
d’Aubervilliers. Il a reçu plusieurs prix
(Sacem, Victoires, Grand prix des
Lycéens) et reçu de nombreuses commandes dans le monde.
He studied at the Conservatoire of Boulogne-Billancourt and at
the Conservatoire National de Paris; he is presently professor of
orchestration at the Conservatoire d’Aubervilliers. He has
received several awards (Sacem, Victoires, High Schooler Grand
Prix) and received numerous commissions in the world.

JEAN-FRANÇOIS VERDIER (CHEF D’ORCHESTRE, CONDUCTOR)
Directeur musical de l’Orchestre Victor Hugo Franche-Comté et
soliste de l’Orchestre de l’Opéra National de Paris. Lauréat des
concours de Tokyo, Colmar, Anvers et Lugano, il a été chef
résident de l’Orchestre National de Lyon.
Musical director of the Orchestre Victor Hugo Franche-Comté
and soloist of the Orchestre de l’Opéra national de Paris. Winner
of Tokyo, Colmar, Antwerp and Lugano Competitions, he was
resident conductor of the Orchestre National de Lyon.
STEVEN SLOANE (CHEF D’ORCHESTRE, CONDUCTOR)
Chef d’orchestre americo-israelien né à Los Angeles, il dirige
l’« International Conducting academy » à l’Université des arts
de Berlin.
American-Israeli conductor, born in Los Angeles, he leads the
«International Conducting Academy» in Berlin University of
the Arts.
JORGE ROTTER (CHEF D’ORCHESTRE, CONDUCTOR)
Né en 1942 à Buenos Aires, il est depuis 1968 chef d’orchestre
principal au Rosario Symphony, Chile’s Chamber Orchestra,
Südwestfälische Philharmonie et à l’Orchestre symphonique de
Buenos Aires. Il est régulièrement invité en Amérique du Sud et
en Europe (Cologne, Bruxelles, Paris, Berlin, Hambourg...)
Born on 1942 in Buenos Aires. From 1968 he was successively
Principal Conductor at the Rosario Symphony, Chile’s Chamber
Orchestra, Südwestfälische Philharmonie and Buenos Aires
National Symphony. He is also a frequent guest conductor in South
America and Europe (Köln, Brussels, Paris, Berlin, Hamburg...)

DANTE ANZOLINI (CHEF D’ORCHESTRE, CONDUCTOR)
Né en Amérique du Sud, il a étudié à la Yale University School of
Music (USA). Directeur musical du Teatro Argentino Opera
(Argentine) de 2005 à 2008, il a dirigé dans le monde entier
(Bonn, Bale, Bruxelles, Bern, Sao Paulo, Grenade, Valence…). Il est
premier chef invité du Landestheater de Linz (Autriche).
Born in South America, he studied at Yale University School of
Music (USA). Musical director of the Teatro Argentino Opera
(Argentina) from 2005 to 2008, he conducted all other the world
(Bonn, Basel, Bern, Brussel, Sao Paulo, Granada, Valencia…). He is
still first principal guest conductor of Landestheater Linz (Austria).
CATHERINE SIMONPIETRI (CHEF DE CHŒUR, CHOIRMASTER)
Elle suit l’enseignement de Pierre Cao au Conservatoire Royal
du Grand Duché de Luxembourg. Passionnée par la création
artistique contemporaine, elle crée en 1998 l’ensemble vocal
professionnel Sequenza 9.3.
She was taught by Pierre Cao at the Royal Conservatory - Grand
Duchy of Luxembourg. Passionated about contemporary art
creation, she created in 1998 the professional vocal ensemble
Sequenza 9.3.
FABIENNE VOISIN, (DIRECTRICE, ORCHESTRA MANAGER)
Après un double cursus, musical (conservatoire de Lyon et
Boulogne-Billancourt) et gestion (EAC Paris), elle est
successivement chargée de production et de programmation
pour plusieurs festivals puis au sein de l’ONDIF, avant d’y être
nommée directrice générale en 2011.
After a double degree, musical (Conservatoire of Lyon and
Boulogne-Billancourt) and management (EAC Paris), she is
successively production manager and musical programmer for
several festivals then for the ONDIF, before being named
Orchestra Manager in 2011.

Les présélections se déroulent devant deux membres du jury
(Jorge Rotter et Dante Anzolini).
Chaque candidat(e) est appelé(e) à diriger deux pianistes jouant
à deux pianos (au lieu d’un piano quatre mains).
Preselections take place in front of two jury members (Jorge
Rotter and Dante Anzolini). Each candidate will conduct two
pianists playing two pianos (instead of two pianists four hands).
