RECALL OF BATTERY PACK FOR DELL 505 and
DELL 510 LAPTOPS
Dear distribution partner,
Dell has informed us that they have a recall situation for some production lots of the battery
packs for DELL 505 and 510 laptops. The danger exists that the affected battery packs
overheat and cause fire. As soon a battery pack is identified as belonging to the lot for
replacement it should immediately be removed from the ROTEM control uni t and kept
separate until replacement has been sent. The ROTEM Control Unit works without problems
with the battery pack removed. However care has to be taken then that the power cable is
not removed during run.
An instruction by DELL, on how to check Lap top battery packs for the necessity for an
exchange is enclosed. This document also contains information on how to obtain a
replacement battery pack from Dell in the case of a faulty pack.
Please contact your customers and inform them to immediately to check if their ROTEM
Control unit is affected. The attached document (multilingual) should be made available to
your customers (preferably as doc file by e -mail. This is most convenient to the customer for
the contact to Dell by Internet).
We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused and we appreciate your full cooperation in
the matter.
Please also send us a list of all the sites contacted and a confirmation that the battery pack is
unaffected or will be replaced. The list should include site information , SN of the ROTEM
System, SN and model of the DELL laptop and the PPID of the battery pack including the
information if the back is affected or not.

Sicherheit von Gebrauchsgütern) führt Dell einen freiwilligen Rückruf bestimmter Notebook-Batterien durch, die

zum Gebrauch einiger Modelle von Dell Latitude -, Dell Precision - und Dell Inspiron -Notebook-Computern
verkauft worden waren, und bietet einen kostenlosen Umtausch an. Es besteht die Gefahr, dass sich diese
Batterien überhitzen könnten, was eine Brandgefahr hervorrufen könnte.
Eventuell betroffene Batterien wurden entweder zusammen mit den folgende n Dell-Notebook-Computermodellen
verkauft, oder separat als sekundäre Batterien:

Es ist auch möglich, dass diese Batterien auf Grund von Serviceanfragen zur Verfügung gestellt wurden. Die
Batterien wurden zwischen dem 5. Oktober 2004 und dem 13. Oktober 2005 an Kunden geliefert. Die Worte
"DELL" und "Made in Japan" oder "Made in China" sind auf den Rückseiten der Batterien aufgedru ckt. Die
Rückrufaktion bezieht sich ausschließlich auf die folgenden Batteriemodelle:

Diese Teilenummern sind auf den Rückseiten der Batteriepacks aufgedruckt, wie unten dargestellt.
Um festzustellen, ob Ihre Batterie von diesem Problem betroffen ist, klicken Sie hier

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Dell is voluntarily recalling and offering free

replacements for certain notebook batteries that were sold for use with some models of Dell Latitude , Dell

Precision and Dell Inspiron
notebook computers. It is possible for these batteries to overheat, which could
pose a risk of fire.
Potentially affected batteries were sold with the following models of Dell notebook computers or separately as

In addition, these batteries may have also been provided in response to service calls. The ba tteries were shipped

These part numbers are printed on the back of the battery packs as illustrated below.
To determine whether your battery is affected by this issue, you should Click Here

identification number from the back of your battery pack so as to determine whether the battery is affected by this
issue. If the battery is subject to this recall you will be automatically connected to a replacement order form. Dell
will also provide a means for you to return the affected battery packs for proper disposal.

Batteries subject to recall should not be used while awaiting a replacement battery p ack from Dell. You may
continue to use your notebook computer using the AC adapter power cord originally provided with your notebook.
