s’installe chez colette. Ce portrait examine le mythe de Michael Jackson à travers ses objets personnels et des pièces des costumes
de scène, comme les gants iconiques scintillants, évacués du ranch de Neverland pour être vendus aux enchères. Avec la légèreté
d'un documentaire approfondi, ces photographiess nous font entrapercevoir l'agitation intérieure d'un homme, pris entre le
personnage public de l'un des plus grands artistes de tous les temps et sa vie privée séquestrée et troublée.
Les fameuses chaussettes scintillantes qui dépassaient des chaussures vernies ne sont finalement que des chaussettes montantes
ordinaires décorées de strass. Les chemises pailletées sont marquées par les traces de maquillage et de sueur. Probablement
pour la première fois, nous voyons leur banalité. A travers la démystification de ces portraits neutres, Leutwyler crée pourtant
avec Nerverland Lost un catalogue d’images dont la plupart sont intimes jusqu’à l’insupportable.
Né en Suisse et basé à New-York, Henry Leutwyler est un photographe reconnu. Son travail a fait l'objet de parutions dans le
New York Times Magazine, Vogue, Esquire et Vanity Fair. En 2008, Leutwyler a reçu le prix de l'année du ASME Magazine Cover
et proclamé comme le photographe de l'année par le magazine Graphis. Son travail fut encensé par le Art Directors Club de
New York, la Society of Publication Designers, Photo District News, D&AD, American Photography et la James Beard Foundation.
Michael Jackson would be 56 years old today. After Los Angeles, New York, Moscou, Madrid et Zurich, Henry Leutwyler’s
portrait lands at colette. In stark objectivity, Neverland Lost examines the Michael Jackson myth through portraits of personal
items and pieces of his stage costumes—like the iconic sparkling glove—that were removed from Jackson's Neverland Ranch and
intended for auction.
Through the cool, documentary scrutiny of Leutwyler's lens, the taxonomic portraits give a glimpse into the inner turmoil of a
man caught between the public persona of one of the greatest entertainers of all time and his troubled and sequestered private
life. The famous sparkling socks that peeked out from glittery shoes turn out to be ordinary white tube socks decorated with
rhinestones. Sequined shirts decked out with sashes and epaulets bear traces of makeup and sweat. Perhaps for the first time,
we see their mundanity. But as demystifying and unsentimental as these portraits may be, in Neverland Lost Leutwyler creates
a catalogue of images that are almost too intimate to behold.
Henry Leutwyler is an internationally acclaimed photographer born in Switzerland and based in New York. His work has appeared
in the New York Times Magazine, Vogue, Esquire and Vanity Fair. In 2008, Leutwyler was the recipient of the ASME Magazine Cover
of the Year award and recognized as the Graphis magazine Photographer of the Year. His work has also received acclaim from the
Art Directors Club of New York, The Society of Publication Designers, Photo District News, D&AD, American Photography and
the James Beard Foundation.
