on the demographic structure
of the Cypriot communities

In May 1987, the Assembly adopted Recommendation 1056 (1987) on national refugees
and missing persons in Cyprus.

En mai 1987, l'Assemblée parlementaire a
adopté la Recommandation 1056 (1987) relative
aux réfugiés nationaux et aux personnes disparues
à Chypre.

This text invited the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe to ask the leaders of
both the Greek and Turkish Cypriot community
not to alter the demographic structure of the island
and especially to avoid untimely migratory movements.

Ce texte recommandait au Comité des
Ministres du Conseil de l'Europe d'inviter les dirigeants des deux communautés chypriotes, grecque
et turque, à ne pas altérer la structure démographique de l'île, notamment par des mouvements
migratoires inopportuns.

The Assembly is particularly worried by
the fact that until now the Committee of Ministers
has not yet replied to Recommendation 1056
(1987).

L'Assemblée est particulièrement préoccupée par le fait que le Comité des Ministres n'a toujours pas répondu à la Recommandation 1056
(1987).

It appears that since the adoption of this
recommendation, persons not belonging to one of
the Cypriot communities have been settled in the
island.

Il semble que, depuis l'adoption de cette
recommandation, des personnes n'appartenant à
aucune des deux communautés chypriotes se
soient installées dans l'île.

Such an influx of foreign migrants would
introduce changes in the population structure and
modify the ethnic and political balance in the
island.

Un tel afflux d'immigrants étrangers risque de modifier la structure démographique ainsi
que l'équilibre ethnique et politique de l'île.

The Assembly therefore urges the states
guaranteeing the Constitution of Cyprus to fully
assume their responsibilities and to take the
necessary steps to avoid the influx of foreigners
into the island.

L'Assemblée parlementaire du Conseil de
l'Europe invite instamment les Etats garants de la
Constitution chypriote à assumer leurs responsabilités et à prendre les mesures nécessaires pour éviter l'afflux d'immigrés étrangers dans l'île.
7.
The Assembly instructs its Committee on
Migration, Refugees and Demography to examine
if compliance with Recommendation 1056 (1987)
is observed and report back to it in due course.

L'Assemblée charge sa commission des
migrations, des réfugiés et de la démographie de
veiller à l'application de la Recommandation 1056
(1987) et de lui en rendre compte en temps utile.
