Chers lecteurs,
Comme les vacances universitaires
approchent, nous avons une fois de
plus le plaisir de vous adresser cette
lettre d‟information. Si les derniers
mois n‟auront pas été de tout repos
au Centre d‟Information DAAD
Yaoundé, les différentes offres de
bourses en cours nous interpellent et
répondront sûrement à vos attentes.
En effet, dans la première moitié de
l‟année en cours, nous avons essayé
de couvrir les besoins en information
et sensibilisation de la communauté
universitaire camerounaise sur les
possibilités d‟études et de recherche
en Allemagne. À travers une journée
d‟information tenue le 8 avril au DAW
-Zentrum (Université de Yaoundé I),
divers organismes allemands sponsorisant la recherche universitaire
ont pu se présenter. Deux mois
après a eu lieu le premier Salon International consacré aux études en
Allemagne sur une durée de trois
jours. Autour d‟un programme intense, 5 universités allemandes ont
pu rencontrer les jeunes camerounais aspirant aux études avec auprès
d‟elles nos partenaires des institutions allemandes au Cameroun et les
anciens d‟Allemagne.

Since July, 2nd the DAAD application portal was activated for scholarship applications within the doctoral and postdoctoral
scholarships: More details on the application process can be found in the following
pages.
Nous souhaitons un séjour fructueux aux cinq étudiants de Germanistique qui bénéficieront cet été
d‟une bourse de cours de langue en
Allemagne. On en compte trois de
l‟Université de Yaoundé I et deux de
l‟Université de Dschang.

The DAAD family pays tribute to Prof.
Dr. Alioune Sow who passed away
one week ago. We thank him for his
great contribution to the development
of the German Studies in Cameroon.



Bourses de recherche dans le domaine de l‟art
Pour le compte de l‟année 2015, le DAAD offre des bourses dans le cadre des programmes sus-cités
aux excellents candidats pour passer un diplôme ou faire la recherche en Allemagne. La procédure de
candidature commence online par un enregistrement sur le portail DAAD à travers le lien :

Après l‟enregistrement, les candidats doivent suivre les instructions données et rassembler les pièces de
candidature requises pour le programme concerné. Toutes les pièces de candidature doivent être téléchargées dans le compte de candidature du candidat, à l‟exception des lettres de recommandation. Ces
dernières seront déposées sous pli fermé avec un exemplaire du « Application summary » imprimé du
portail DAAD au Centre d‟Information DAAD avant le délai de candidature : le 15 octobre pour les doctorants et jeunes scientifiques et le 1er octobre / 1er avril pour les enseignants et chercheurs. Notez
bien que tous les formulaires, y compris celui des lettres de recommandation doivent être téléchargés du
portail DAAD.
Notez bien qu‟aucune certification de diplômes ou relevés de notes n‟est nécessaire à ce niveau. Les
candidats peuvent donc télécharger des copies non certifiées de vos diplômes et relevés de notes. Les
certifications interviendront seulement après la sélection.
Call for applications : DAAD scholarships 2015
The DAAD scholarship offer has been opened for the following programmes in 2015:

Research stays for doctoral candidates and young scientists

Research stays for university lecturers and experienced academics

Scholarships for artists
Interested candidates are invited to use the following application link to the DAAD portal:

The DAAD portal has been set up in order to assist candidate and facilitate the application process: The
candidate should open a personal account where all documents have to be downloaded and uploaded. A
great advantage of this portal is the flexibility. The only documents that will not be uploaded on the portal
are the letters of recommendation because they have to remain confidential. So, the candidate will download the form of this letter and send it to the referees. Once the referees have filled in the form and sealed it in an envelope, the candidate will deposit it with a hard copy of the “Application summary” generated by the portal at the DAAD Information Centre Yaoundé. The application deadline for doctoral candidates is October, 15th. For research stays there are two deadlines: 1st October and 1st April. Please, make
sure you have validated your application before that date.
No certification of diplomas or transcripts is necessary now. It will be done after the selection in January
or February. So, you can upload simple copies of your degrees and transcripts on the DAAD portal.

Research in Germany: Information Day in Yaoundé
The DAAD Information Centre Yaoundé organized an Information Day on April, 8th at the Unversity of
Yaoundé I to welcome all interested young researchers and give them an overview of the German research landscape. Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, this event was held in
cooperation with several German organisations and foundations which fund research, namely the Humboldt-Foundation, the Volkswagen Foundation, the Bayer Foundation, the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation,
the Heinrich-Böll Foundation and last but not least the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
The Information Day had two main parts: the visit of information stands and a plenar discussion. Here an
overview of the activities of the represented foundations and organisations:
The Bayer foundations support leading scientists, talented young researchers and
innovative educational and social projects with the aim of improving the long-term
entrepreneurial framework conditions for an innovation-based company like Bayer.
The programs of the Bayer foundations center around dedicated people who do

The Heinrich-Böll-Foundation supports cultural projects
in the context of a political education and sponsors
outstanding, socio-politically active students and graduates from Germany and abroad.
The Volkswagen-Foundation is Germany„s largest private research
funding foundation, and indeed one of the country‟s largest foundations altogether.
In accordance with its statutes, the Volkswagen Foundation supports the humanities and social sciences as well as science and technology in higher education and research by providing targeted impulses

Current offer for African postdocs:
The Humboldt-Foundation promotes academic cooperation between excellent
scientists and scholars from abroad and from Germany. The research fellowships and research awards allow you to come to Germany to work on a research

Salon International “Etudier en Allemagne” Yaoundé, 5-7 juin 2014
Le premier Salon « Etudier en Allemagne » a eu lieu du 5 au 7 juin 2014 au
Cercle Municipal de Yaoundé. Cet
événement qui s‟inscrit dans la prolongation et l‟enrichissement du Forum « Etudier en Allemagne » se veut une plate-forme d‟échange et
de dialogue non seulement pour les institutions allemandes et camerounaises coorganisatrices, mais
aussi pour les étudiants camerounais et les 5 universités allemandes qui y ont pris part.
Ouvert officiellement dans la matinée du 5 juin par les représentants de l‟Ambassadeur d‟Allemagne et du Ministre Camerounais de l‟Enseignement Supérieur, le tout premier Salon réservé aux études en Allemagne a permis le déroulement de
diverses activités. Si les entretiens dans les stands constituent
le point central du Salon, les exposés en plénière des universités, de l‟Ambassade d‟Allemagne et du DAAD ont fait courir
plus de 1 000 candidats aux études en Allemagne. De long en
large, l‟offre de formation des universités présentes, les conditions d‟admission dans les universités et les recommandations
consulaires en matière de visa-étudiant ont été traitées par
tous les acteurs. Le Salon s‟est achevé sur une note de satisfaction non seulement des organisateurs, mais aussi des universités allemandes et du DAAD qui serait bien prêt à renouveler cet événement à l‟avenir.
En effet, les salons de l‟éducation constituent dans le monde entier des moments sûrs pour assurer
l‟obtention d‟une information de qualité
pour les étudiants et en même temps
une meilleure visibilité pour les établissements d‟enseignement supérieur.

Press Release: DAAD Campaign for Education in Africa
Academic exchange promotes stable development
“Without excellent universities, sustainable economic and social development is not possible, and that especially applies to Sub-Saharan Africa. Consequently, conditions have to be created so that countries in
this region can train qualified professionals – in particular, teachers, which are urgently needed in their
schools,” says DAAD President Prof. Margret Wintermantel. The DAAD strategy to initiate academic cooperation with the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa is the result of intensive dialogue, in which German and
African universities, DAAD alumni, higher education associations and international political organisations in
Africa were involved. The DAAD education campaign for the region was conceived as a partnership-based
programme from the very start.
The DAAD shall concentrate on the following five strategic fields of activity in East Africa until 2020:
 Train students to become university lecturers in Africa with scholarships to German institutions of higher
education and top-performing universities in neighbouring African countries
 Support African universities in expanding their graduate training and research capacities
 Strengthen universities in the region as effective drivers of social development – e.g. funding applied research and degree programmes which are relevant to the labour market, knowledge transfer in the economic sector and graduate entrepreneurial commitment
 Enable German universities to gain easier access to the African continent and present information about
Germany in Africa
 Strengthen synergistic and collaborative projects, creating a close alliance between German and African
partners, especially with regional university organisations in Africa
In order to achieve these goals, the DAAD will make use of established programmes and develop new models. German, African and international funding organisations will provide the necessary financing for implementing the strategy.
