Explanatory Note
This section of the 1999 SOCRATES Compendium contains projects supported through SOCRATES,
LINGUA Action D - Development of instruments for language learning and teaching, and the
assessment of linguistic competence.
The projects are listed by coordinating country, and project number in ascending order.
For each project the Compendium contains the following information:

TITLE:
COCTALE - Communicative Competence Testing Templates for the Advancement
of Language Learning in Europe
DESCRIPTION:
COCTALE is a project aiming to develop materials for testing the communication skills
of foreign language learners at school level who have followed courses using the
communicative approach. The project is coordinated by the curriculum development
centre for Catholic education in Flanders (B) in partnership with a similar centre in a
British university and a specialist language teaching institution in Greece. The project
answers a need among language teachers to find ways of testing the success of the
communicative approach now widely used in schools and elsewhere, by devising
templates which allow for maximum flexibility in the construction of diagnostic and other
tests. Initially the target langauges will be DE,EN,FR and EL and the project will be tried
out and disseminated through teacher training networks already working together on
previous Lingua projects.

LOKI - Integration through Language and Culture
DESCRIPTION:
LOKI is a multimedia package that combines language acquisition with the acquisition
of socio-cultural knowledge of four Central European Countries: Poland, Rumania,
Czech Republic and Hungary. It trains the four basic language skills of reading, writing,
listening and speaking as well as applied academic skills such as outlining,
summarising, criticising, discussing etc. and business skills such as negotiating,
presenting, auditing etc..
The authentic materials which form the basis of the pack are to be drawn from current
affairs and will have an EU emphasis, as portrayed in the target countries. Varied topics
will be explored to pedagogical ends for learners at beginner, intermediate and
advanced levels for the four languages concerned. The core material will be produced
on CD-ROM and give the user access to video-material, exercises, a WWW
information page and feedback / background information.
LOKI is an extension of the existing Lingua D project LINC (42149) and LINC1 (72128)

DESCRIPTION:
This two-year project intends to develop a interactive multimedia home-study package
''Dutch as Foreign Language'' for non-philologist students of higher education, who want
to participate in European students exchange programmes. The interactive CD-ROM
version will include:
(a) the video sequences and graphics of the dialogues and texts of all the units of the
package,
(b) guidance throughout all the stages of each unit (instructions in the language of the
learner
(c) a test after each unit
(d) bilingual glossary and a short practical grammar
Testing facilities and various activities on the Web/Internet will complete the package.
Partners will also produce a learner's textbook, a key to exercises, a glossary, a short
grammar and audio-cassettes with texts, dialogues and exercises.

Deutsch - mal anders! An Interactive Multimedia Foreign Language Course for
Non-Philology University Students.
DESCRIPTION:
This project has been designed to teach German as standard language to university
students or students of higher education, before participating in European student
exchange programmes. It aims at institutes of higher education for non philologists and
foreign language centres with or without open and distance learning. The project intends
to promote the acquisition of the four language skills, with emphasis on listening skills.
Didactic activities will be disseminated on the Web/Internet, promoting interactive
learning and self-learning. Didactic tools will be task-oriented to make students fluent in
general communication as well as in slightly specialised communication. The outcomes
of this two-years project, promoted by a network of educational institutions from BE, DE
and FI, will be a package containing not only an interactive CD-ROM version with video
pictures, graphics, texts, exercises, a short grammar and a glossary, but will also
include a printed learner's textbook with exercises of various kinds of tests. For the
classroom teacher a practical manual has been written, containing background
information on text types, typology and exercises, guidelines for classroom use for each
didactic unit, possibilities of transfer activities and a key to exercises.

An Interactive Approach to Language and Culture
DESCRIPTION:
Le but du projet LinC1 - Interactive Approach to Language an Culture est de développer
du matériel multimédia qui combine l'acquisition de connaissances linguistiques de
base ainsi que l'acquisition de connaissances socio-culturelles par le biais de thèmes
liés à la vie courante dans les pays UE dont la langue est moins courante. Ce package
est destiné à des débutants n'ayant aucune notion de la langue en question. Les
matériels utilisés sont actuels et visent à promouvoir la communication entre citoyens
européens. Le produit final consistera en un CD-ROM contenant du matériel vidéo, des
exercices et leurs corrections, une touche de feed-back, des textes, une aide
phonétique, des modules de test et des sites d'information sur internet.
Les partenaires du projet sont au nombre de 10: 3 NL, 1 BE, 1 GB, 2 DK, 1 PT, 1 IT, 1
GR et le coordinateur est BE.

TITLE:
INTERLIDA
An interactive language course with Lithuanian and Danish as hosts and targets
DESCRIPTION:
For self-study by Danish speaking learners wanting to learn Lithuanian as foreign
language (first year) and Lithuanian speakers who want to learn Danish as a foreign
language (second year). The CD-ROM will contain:
(a) didactic units
(b) a basic on-screen text dialogue with a possibility of switching between the two
languages and to hear it spoken in full or word by word
(c) multiple choice exercises testing written comprehension skills, role plays, tests of
words randomly chosen by the computer and dialogues with the computer.
The materials are aimed at home-based learning and classroom learning. The duration
is planned for two years, on for each language version. The project is promoted by a
network of non formal adult education institutions, consulting and software design
companies and Higher Education institutions. The outcome will be an interactive foreign
language course on CD ROM for windows. The first CD ROM will be marketed in
Denmark, Norway and Sweden and it will be implemented as a supporting tool in
foreign language courses for adults.

LESCOnet - Apprentissage Autonome des langues européennes par ordinateur et

DESCRIPTION:
Le projet vise à fabriquer des outils pour l’apprentissage en autonomie du français et de
l’espagnol langues étrangères. Le matériel comprend un CD Rom, une bande audio,
une bande vidéo, un cahier de l’élève et la mise en place d’un site Internet (service
questions / réponses, forum inter apprenants, service ressource d’informations
culturelles). Ces outils destinés d’abord à faciliter l’accès des étudiants aux langues
seront utilisables pour une liaison présentiel / autonomie, pour un apprentissage
autonome en médiathèque et pour l’apprentissage autonome à distance.

DESCRIPTION:
Les deux partenaires veulent creer un nouveau manuel pour líslandais comme langue
étrangère dans une approche communicative et orientée vers lápprenant
(lernerzentriert). Les unités sont unilingues et complétées de matériel bilingue (islandais
- allemand, anglais, espagnol, français, suedois). Le matériel inclut des projets de
recherche basés sur les possibilités du ‘www’ et du ‘e-mail’ (communication et
information). Le manuel consiste de modules (aussi pour les thèmes que pour les
compétences partielles) utilisables indépendamment selon les contextes pédagogiques
et presentés sur des feuilles mobiles. Comme groupe cible on vise les adultes
(débutants et niveau intermédiaire) dans des universités et dans les institutions de la
formation continue. Dans une phase ultérieure le matériel va être adapté aux besoins
de láuto-apprentissage et de l´éducation à distance (cd-rom, internet). Mais partant
dúne conception modulaire, le matériel va être présenté dès la deuxième année sur le
web.

Tandem Language Learning Partnerships for Schools
DESCRIPTION:
Apprendre une langue étrangère en tandem: avec cette méthode deux apprenants avec
des langues maternelles différentes travaillent ensemble. Pour améliorer leurs
compétences linguistiques ils communiquent et se soutiennent mutuellement (p.ex.
correction, trouver léxpression adéquate, information culturelle etc.). Parallèlement ils
aquérissent des techniques dáuto-apprentissage et des compétences en
communication plurilingue et en coopération interculturelle. En partant des expériences
des partenaires dans autres projets européens (développement des instruments
efficaces et du matériel pour la méthode ‘tandem’ pour des apprenants adultes; voir
tandem server Bochum) et en profitant de l accroissement de la mobilité en Europe et
de la ''mobilité virtuelle (e-mail, internet etc.) le projet veut adapter lápproche ‘tandem’
à lénseignement des langues étrangères à l´école primaire et secondaire (en générale
pour les non-débutants). Les langues cibles sont lállemand, lánglais, léspagnol et le
français. Les partenaires (5 institutions de formation et de formation continue des
professeurs et 16 écoles de 4 pays) veulent développer et évaluer du matériel ‘tandem’
pour le groupe cible mentionné. Cela inclut: des propositions pour líntégration des
méthodes ‘tandem’ (tandem face-to-face et tandem-internet) dans les programmes
d´études, du matériel pour la promotion de láuto-apprentissage, des conseils
didactiques pour les élèves et les professeurs, des exercices pour le travail en tandem,
des instruments pour lévaluation et láuto-évaluation du travail en tandem.

LEDU - Lehrmittel für den Dänisch-Unterricht
DESCRIPTION:
Langue cible de ce projet est le danois, le danois pour les apprenants (adultes et
élèves) dans le Land Schleswig-Holstein (au nord de lÁllemagne; frontière avec le
Denmark). Lóbjectif est la modernisation du manuel ''Det es dansk'' (sorti il y a 10 ans)
et le développement de matériel complémentaire pour lénseignement du danois pour
différents niveaux dans les écoles secondaires et dans la formation des adultes. Le
matériel complémentaire inclut: des exercices pour ordinateur, un manuel déxcercices,
une grammaire, des cassettes audio, un cd-rom et un manuel pour professeurs. La
motivation de réaliser ce projet vient du fait, quún marché non-lucratif empèche une
production commerciale de matériel (le groupe et la langue cible ne garantissent pas
une diffussion énorme) et est basé sur la nécessité de moderniser un manuel démodé
(surtout en ce qui concerne la civilisation du Danemark) et díntégrer les nouvelles
technologies.

Se basant sur l' expérience tirée du projet Socrate ''Spilleplan'', le projet ''Variante'' vise
à adapter lápproche pédagogique de láncien projet (Spielpädagogik) à la création de
matériel d'apprentissage d'une langue étrangère, en l'occurence l'allemand, l'italien, le
portugais et l'espagnol destiné à des formations de courte durée prévue pour préparer
un séjour dans le pays de la langue cible. La base du matériel à developper contient un
guide pédagogique pour les professeurs, des feuilles de travail pour les apprenants et
du matériel audiovisuel (civilisation des pays de la langue cible). Le produit réalisé va
servir dans les cours/stages de langue de court terme pour préparer de façon ludique et
communicative des jeunes/adultes (niveau débutant) à des visites/stages.

Sprachlich-interkulturelles Lernen in der Begegnung
DESCRIPTION:
Le but de ce projet est la création et la production de nouveaux matériels
d'apprentissage et d'enseignement à utiliser dans le cadre de cours donnés dans le
pays de la langue cible, c'est à dire le finnois et le slovaque dans le cas présent. Priorité
est donnée aux différences interculturelles que chaque apprenant rencontre lors d'un
séjour à l'étranger. Les matériels sont destinés à plusieurs publics cibles mais surtout à
de jeunes travailleurs/euses adultes. Suite à cela, le projet se propose de réaliser des
matériels d'apprentissage qui reprendraient les expériences interculturelles des
participants et qui initient des processus d'apprentissage linguistique. Ces matériels
seront disponibles via l'internet, dans un premier temps pour les membres de
l'organisation coordinatrice et pour les formateurs de langues qui pourraient utiliser ces
matériels dans le cadre des cours à l'étranger. Une prochaine étape pourrait développer
ces matériels en ''matériel d'auto-apprentissage pour apprenants''.

DIALANG : Diagnostic testing of 14 languages on the Internet
DESCRIPTION:
The aim of the project, developed out of the current DIALANG project 39441 -CP-11996-1-FI-LD), is to make publicly available on the Internet, valid and reliable tests
which will diagnose language proficiency in the 11 Community languages plus Irish,
Icelandic and Norwegian. Clients will be given feedback on their performance and
advice on how to advance from their current level of proficiency. By the end of the
project period, the system will be fully operational, regularly maintained and financially
self-sustaining.
The system will be available to any European citizen with access to the Internet who is
interested in obtaining an independent assessment of proficiency in any of the fourteen
languages.
The development work will take two years to complete. An interim system will be
vailable for 5 languages(Dutch, English, Finnish, Italian and Spanish) will be made
available on the Internet early in 2001.
The principle project activities are the completion of robust multi-lingual delivery and
data-gathering tools, the development of a website to host the system, an intensive
programme of piloting and analysis, the construction of operational item banks for skillspecific tests for 14 languages and the design and implementation of a business plan
for the system.

Le projet vise à développer un programme d'apprentissage des langues multimédia
innovant pour des personnes planifiant un séjour à l'étranger. Ce programme sera
développé en néerlandais, en danois et en allemand et est conçu pour l'apprentissage
autonome. Le programme consistera en différentes parties: ''le quotidien des étudiants''
et ''Etudier à l'université''. L'un des aspects principaux est la transmission d'informations
culturelles et de manières d'agir (par ex. les différentes formes de communication dans
les séminaires, etc.). La mise en oeuvre de ce projet repose sur les fondements d'un
programme de langues antérieur développé dans le cadre de Lingua.
Le produit de ce projet à l'issue de la 1ère année d'activité consistera en un programme
informatique d'apprentissage des langues qui servira dans le cadre d'un apprentissage
autonome mais pouvant également être utilisé dans le cadre d'un apprentissage ouvert
et à distance. Le développement de ce projet permettra la promotion de la mobilité des
étudiants en leur donnant les informations pratiques nécessaires avant leur séjour à
l'étranger.

This project seeks to complete the Asterias series, through the production of a course
for learning the Greek language, designed specifically for the 12-14 year age group.
Once completed the Asterias series will cover 4 levels (the previous 3 having been
supprted under a previous Lingua Project (Lingua D project number 36668 1995-1997).
Level four, like levels 1 - 3, consists of the following elements
Pupil's book and excercise book
3 vocabularies: EN-GR, FR-GR and ES-GR
2 CDs: one with songs and another with texts and exercises
Teacher's pedagogical manual.
The previous 3 levels have been adapted in close collaboration with the Greek ministry
of Education to ensure coherence with the national requirements of certification in the
Greek language: the 4th level will follow this pattern, and therefore as a package, users
can expect to achieve Leval A and G of the Official Certificate of the Greek Language.
It is anticipated that the materials will be used by 2nd and 3rd generation choldren of
Greek families living in the UK, Spain and France as well as migrant families in Greece.

The ''European Project for early teaching of second languages and foreign languages to
children'' intends to promote plurilingual education in secondary schools through the
production of materials entitled ''Subject Projects''.
It is a two year project which intends to produce didactic tools for teachers to introduce
the teaching of content through a foreign language. The end product a CD-rom with five
didactic units related to specific school subject matters: geography, history, art
environment and music. The contents will be organised according to their difficulty,
different itineraries could be chosen according to the pupil's knowledge, the curricula
and the target language.
The materials proposed aim to continue the materials already produced under two other
lingus projects: The adventures of Hocus and Lotus (for ages 4 - 8 years), Story Project
(for ages 8 - 10 years) and The explorers (for ages 10 - 12 years). The aim is to
produce materials which are suitable for the users, both in terms of their age-group, and
in terms of their existing knowledge of the target language: in most cases the users will
have followed the same methodology through the other materials and will already have
a reasonably advanced knowledge of the language.

LETO (Languages for European Transnational Orientation) will produce Computer
Assisted Language Learning (CALL) packs for Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and English.
It is a three years project with partners from ES, IT and PT. The project targets
University students taking modular degrees with credits obtained in Italian, Portuguese,
Spanish and British Universities and professionals who have to work work in Italy,
Portugal, Spain and UK. The materials will be particularly devised for learners coming
from the field of engineering and business and will take into account sociocultural
aspects of the languages to be learnt. The end product will be composed of a set of
CD-roms for each target language.The didactic material will also be available in
Internet. The first year of activity concerns the analysis of learner's needs and the final
version for the didactic materials EN-ES. The CD-roms for PT ans IT will be perfomed
in the second year. During the last year, the participant institutions will realize, assess
and diffuse the final version of the didactic materials.

Le projet MINERVA, prévu pour une durée de trois ans, entend développer un matériel
didactique à l'usage des étudiants qui suivent des programmes d'échanges. Le projet
s'intéresse à l'enseignement des langues romanes, en particulier, le français, l'italien, le
portugais, l'espagnol, le français, le catalan et, peut-être le roumain. Les approches
pédagogiques adoptées concernent la compréhension mutuelle au sein d'une même
famille de langues, l'approche communicative et la dimension socioculturelle. Le
partenariat est constitué par des centres universitaires de ES, PO, FR, BE, IT et ES. A
l'issue de la troisième année, un CD ROM doit voir le jour. Les dix modules qui seront
élaborés s'articulent autour de situations de la vie courante universitaire, avec une

The project aims to produce teaching modules in a number of different languages for
pupils in the two final years of the primary school. The purpose of the exercise is, by
exposing pupils to new languages not spoken or taught in the school, to produce in
them a better understanding of the diversity of languages that exist as well as enhanced
motivation and aptitude for the learning of a language when the time comes for this to
start. The creation of this language awareness among pupils should also lead to more

ModimNet. Cours multimédia de langues pour adultes francophones débutants
DESCRIPTION:
ModimNet is a 3 year project proposal to construct courses for the autonomous learning
of Portuguese and Polish. The courses are to be designed for beginners, and will be
produced on CD-ROM which gives access to a web-site offering contact with other
learners as well as tutorial support.
The partnership aims to ensure that the product takes advantage of state of the art
technology, and notably that of speech processing, to provide a course that is
interactive and in which a variety of support services are available to the user via the
web site. The choice of languages is not accidental: the aim is to make available
technologically and pedagogically efficient materials for the learning of languages which
generally have no place in the normal curriculum within scools and universities. As a
starting point the promoter has chosen one least widely taught language from the
Romance languages and one from the Slavonic family.
The product package consists of the following elements:
a multi-platform CD-ROM and Internet site
The CD-ROM will have 5 parts:
a language course organised in 9 thematic modules based on everyday situations
a civilisation module
a phonetic module
a bilingual dictionary with sound
a grammar
A user's guide and teacher's guide will be produced to accompany the CD-ROM. The
CD-ROM will also incorporate a hyper-link giving the user free access to: pedagogical
help and answers to certain exercises access to selected web-sites about the country of
the target language and practical advice (tourism, culture, addresses and bibliography).
Further services are envisaged which will require a payment: support from a qualified
tutor who will give feedback by e-mail.

DESCRIPTION:
L'objectif de « PUZZLE » est de créer un outil pour l'évaluation de la langue écrite en
française, espagnol, italien, néerlandais et roumain à l'intention des malentendants. Le
projet s'appuie sur un système mixte d'apprentissage qui relie le langage des signes, la
lecture sur les lèvres et la langue écrite. PUZZLE entend mettre au point un interface
en Langues des signes et en langue orale dans les cinq langues du projet ; un CD ROM
doit voir le jour. Ce produit proposera des récits du plus court et simple au plus long et
complexe, ainsi qu'une batterie de tests sous différentes formes au choix de l'usager
qui pourra à tout instant recourir à une autre langue, à des pictogrammes, à la lecture
des lèvres et au langage des signes. Les apprenants seront amenés à reconstruire les
récits en mettant en ordre des séquences d'images ; les tests sont conçus de façon à ce
qu'aucune ambiguïté ne puisse subsister ou qu'un autre récit que celui proposé ne
puisse paraître correct ou sensé. Le CD ROM comprendra aussi un Dictionnaire
informatisé des langues des signes et sa grammaire. Le produit sera testé auprès d'un
public de malentendants et de sourds en FR, BE, IT, NL et RO.

''The Adventures of Hocus and Lotus'' is a product which has been developed gradually
since 1992, and which provides language learning materials designed specifically to be
used with young learners aged 3 to 8 years (kindergarten and the first two years of
primary education). Each kit will contain 6 story booklets, 1 teacher's/parent's guide, 1
domino, 1 music cassette with 6 mini-musicals, 1 video with 6 short cartoons. The
materials can be used in a classroom situation as well as in the home setting, and are
designed specifically to enable the teacher / parent with little knowledge of the target
language to learn alongside the children and to support the children in their learning.
The full pack will be available in 7 languages: Italian, French, German, Portuguese,
Danish, Spanish and Dutch (some of which have been partly developed in previous
projects and some of which are entirely new).
The teaching approach is based on the process of language acquisition in monolinguals
and bilinguals, and on communicative aspects and the affective relationships between
adult and child. Through imagination and drama acting-out, the child is given the
opportunity to live experiences in another language and to gain among other things,
understanding of cultural issues.
The project is linked direcly and indirectly to a number of other Lingua projects both in
teacher training and in materials development.

rapporteront au Cadre Européen Commun de Référence (CECR). Les laboratoires
linguistiques en milieu web se structurent autour de ''classes'', une ''bibliothèque'', des
''Forum'' et une assistance didactique. L'évaluation des compétences linguistiques
(compréhension écrite et orale, expression écrite et orale) est un des piliers du projet.
Les Laboratoires Linguistiques permettront des activités d'apprentissage linguistique
pour environ 300/350 heures. Un système de tutorat à distance sera mis en place.

Le projet entend promouvoir l'apprentissage du Luxembourgeois, en complétant le

support électronique : un CD-ROM et un site Internet. Le CD-ROM pourra être utilisé
dans les cours de luxembourgeois existants, ainsi que comme un instrument d'autoapprentissage. Au terme de la troisième année, la version définitive du site web sera
élaborée ; le site permettra l'échange avec des enseignants, des locuteurs autochtones
et d'autres apprenants. Le luxembourgeois étant surtout une langue parlée, la
méthodologie se base sur une approche communicative. L'apprenant développera des
compétences communicatives par l'interaction dans des situations concrètes de la vie
sociale et professionnelle. Le projet est promu par un réseau d'Instituts Supérieurs, de
sociétés de services et d'organisations de l'éducation des adultes issues de LU, DE, FR

The objectives of the project ''BUSINESS DUTCH: Business Dutch in Central and

BABELNET, d'une durée de deux ans, entend développer un cadre pour l'apprentissage

des apprenants de niveaux débutant, intermédiaire et avancé. Un vaste réseau
d'institutions AT, DK, ES, FI, FR, UK, NL, PT et SE développera sur Internet un produit
articulé autour de trois axes : des activités interactives regroupées autour d'un thème et
proposant plusieurs niveaux d'apprentissage ; des «événements » réguliers ou
concours qui favoriseront la communication entre les apprenants de divers pays
européens et un centre de ressources pour les enseignants. Ce centre diffusera des
ressources didactiques pour les enseignants, en particulier, des activités pédagogiques
à réaliser en classe à partir d'Internet. Les produits mis en ligne permettront d'améliorer
les connaissances linguistiques des apprenants et les compétences pédagogiques des
enseignants (utilisation des ressources qu'offre Internet pour la didactique des langues).
Le projet se propose de créer un cadre adaptable à d'autres langues et de s'ouvrir à des
langues moins répandues au cours de la deuxième année.

Ce projet coordonné par un centre de langues finlandais et dont les autres partenaires
sont un institut de communication interculturelle allemand et un institut de langues
hongrois ont pour objectif la réalisation d'un programme d'exercices et de test
multimédia pour développer les compétences de communication linguistique des
étudiants qui souhaitent effectuer un séjour à l'étranger. Une étude pilote a détecté que
la plupart des problèmes étaient dus à des problèmes de communication - ainsi la
communication orale joue un rôle plus important en Allemagne qu'en Finlande par
exemple. Le programme qui sera réalisé sera présenté sur CD-Rom et sur le web pour
les langues cibles DE, EN, FI et HU comme langues étrangères. Le programme
comprendra une partie destinée aux études, aux contacts avec le personnel de
l'université-hôte, une partie culturelle et une partie liée à la vie quotidienne. Le
programme sera basé sur des situations réelles. Le projet est prévu sur une période de
3 ans et comptera développer des modules de formation en EN, DE, HU et FI,
l'adaptation du programme sur un CD-Rom qui comptera 48 modules (14 pour DE et
EN et 10 pour FI et HU). Comme matériel complémentaire, le projet prévoit la
réalisation d'une viédo et d'un livre d'accompagnement.

Speakeasy : teaching materials to develop and evaluate learners' oral skills in
Foreign Languages

This 3 year project gathers together partners from the UK, Italy, Fance, Germany and
Spain. The aim of the project is to provide practical materials for the teaching and
assessment of oral skills in modern language teaching of pupils aged 14-19. The
materials will be designed for the use of teachers as well as for self-evaluation by the
students. The target languages are English, French, German, Italian, Spanish (+
Catalan and Welsh, but no Community support is requested for these). The assesment
scale developed will build on the work undertaken by the Council of Europe in its
Common European Framework of Reference.
The project outcome will be in the form of a pack of materials including a CD-Rom. A
web-site will also be developed to present the project results. Produced materials will be
tested in each country in 3-4 pilot schools.

Neues Lernen - Lehrmittel für ganzheitlichen Unterricht in Englisch, Französisch,

DESCRIPTION:
Le projet se propose de réaliser du matériel d'apprentissage de l'anglais, du français, de
l'espagnol et de l'allemand. La méthode proposée vise à un apprentissage global d'une
langue favorisée par des méthodes de relaxation, des séances de musique et autres
méthodes permettant de relaxer l'esprit.
Il existe depuis quelques années au Liechtenstein un projet intitulé ''nouvel
apprentissage'' (Neues Lernen) basé sur des théories de ''total physical response'',
''brain gym'', et des théories plus récentes telles que le ''mind mapping''. Cette méthode
qui recourt également à des exercices de relaxation et à l'utilisation de la musique pour
favoriser l'apprentissage et créer une atmosphère positive est particulièrement bien
adaptée à l'acquisition de compétences linguistiques orales. Cette méthode fait appel à
tous les sens et convient particulièrement aux enfants rencontrant des difficultés avec
les méthodes d'apprentissage conventionnelles des langues. Cette méthode permet,
grâce à ses techniques de détente et de relaxation, de mettre en place des modules de
cours intensifs qui favorisent un apprentissage bilingue. Cette méthode s'adresse aux
élèves du secondaire inférieur et aux jeunes et adultes immigrés.
Les produits envisagés (CD-Rom) comprendront des dialogues (documents écrits)(25),
des jeux d'apprentissage de toutes sortes (environ 300), des affiches (100) et de la
musique (4 CD-Rom). Dans une première phase, les produits seront conçus en français
et en anglais et par la suite, après évaluation et tests dans le cadre de classes plus
grandes, ils seront adaptés en allemand et en espagnol. Le projet est prévu sur 3 ans.
Les partenaires sont au nombre de 12 venant d'Autriche (4), d'Allemagne (1),
d'Espagne (1), de Hongrie (1), d'Italie (1), d'Irlande (1), de Pologne (1) et de Suède (1).

Le projet comprend sept partenaires, tous des institutions d'enseignement supérieur,
issus de sept pays. Ses objectifs sont la création d'un programme de cours de langue
ODL, qui représentera en même temps une source de référence de syntaxe
comparative des langues germaniques, sous forme de logiciel « web-based »
permettant une compréhension inter-langues (« cross linguistic comprehension »). Les
langues source, qui sont à la fois langues cible, sont les sept langues germaniques
suivantes : EN, DE, NL, NO, SE, DA, IS. Le produit développé s'adressera en premier
lieu à tout adulte dont la langue maternelle est l'une de ces langues, souhaitant acquérir
une compétence partielle passive (compréhension de textes écrits) dans une ou
plusieurs de ces langues. Dans une moindre mesure, il s'adressera à des philologues et
linguistes souhaitant étudier les aspects comparatifs des langues germaniques traitées.
Le logiciel permettra un apprentissage en autodidacte. A partir de textes de différents
niveaux de difficultés (un même texte existe dans chacune des sept langues), tous
interconnectés, l'utilisateur est à même de choisir un couple de langues de son choix à
des fins d'étude ou de comparaison. 42 couples de langues seront ainsi disponibles.
Les textes seront accompagnés d'explications grammaticales, syntactiques,
phonologiques, de listes de vocabulaire, ainsi que d'exercices de compréhension.
Méthodologie : Sélectionner des textes. Rassembler des grammaires déjà existantes,
sélectionner dans ces grammaires, adapter et traduire les explication grammaticales
correspondant aux textes choisis, dans toutes les langues nécessaires.

Equal Rights for the LWULT Languages of the EU
DESCRIPTION:
The project plans to set up a language teaching and examination network where the
languages of the partners - Hungarian, Swedish, Dutch, German, Finnish, Danish,
Portuguese and French - would be taught mutually. The task of each university
participating in the project will be to design curricula, course materials and proficiency
tests, following the standards designed by the European Consortium for the Certificate
of Attainment in Modern Languages, an internationally harmonised language test
system. The duration of the project is three years. The expected outcomes will be:
modular language course system for LWULT, curricula, didactic materials and
standardised language tests.
The project contributes to the development of linguistic pluralism as it intends to adapt
standards to certificate language skills to a broad range of European Languages. Three
kinds of products are foreseen: syllabi (for modular language courses), curricula and
didactic materials (from elementary to advanced level, targeting the 4 basic language
skills), as well as tests to certify language skills. The first year of activity concerns : 1)
the adaptation of the EN version of ECL languages exam into the target language. 2)
the development of ECL pilot test in the languages involved, 3) administration of oral
an written exams and 4) the revisions of tests (Handbook). The second year is devoted
to the development of a modular course and curriculum, which are harmonised with the
request of ECL. The final year concerns the final version of tests and the didactic
materials that will help students in the preparation for the exam in the languages
involved.

souhaitent aussi mettre en place de nouveaux programmes d'études basés sur les

souhaitent également explorer les possibilités de l'apprentissage et de l'enseignement
par le biais des multimédia. Le projet est prévu pour une durée de 3 ans.
Le projet procédera en 2 phases: une première phase consistant à développer de
nouveaux programmes d'études pour DE, 1ère langue étrangère sur base du hongrois
et du grec comme langues maternelles. La deuxième phase consistera à développer
plus particulièrement pour les classes de secondaire inférieur un programme adéquat

lecture pour les combinaisons linguistiques suivantes: NL-PL, DE-PL, PL-DE, CZ-DE,
DE-CZ. Ces cours sont développés à des fins d'apprentissage autonome et
apprentissage à distance et concernent plus particulièrement le domaine des sciences
sociales et des lettres. Pour l'instant, la communication entre les PECO et les autres
pays européens se fait de manière prépondérante en anglais, cependant il ne peut y
avoir de réel échange de traditions scientifiques que si un grand nombre de personnes
comprennent les langues slaves et germaniques. De cette manière, les scientifiques
peuvent apporter leur contribution à l'intégration intellectuelle des candidats à
l'accession à l'UE. Le partenariat comprend des partenaires tchèque, néerlandais,
autrichien et allemand. Le coordinateur est l'Université de Varsovie, PL.
Les cours s'adressent en particulier aux apprenants et étudiants de toutes les
universités participantes, aux établissements de formation et de formation continue,
aux personnes actives ayant besoin de telles compétences. Le projet compte
développer pour chaque combinaison linguistique, un CD-Rom ainsi que des versions
électroniques.
