À l’heure où le monde de l’art s’interroge sur son organisation, ses institutions et
son économie, il est pertinent de se questionner sur le positionnement de l’œuvre.
Le recours à un langage visuel accrocheur est devenu incontournable dans une
partie de la création contemporaine. Les artistes cherchent-ils à séduire pour répondre aux attentes du public ou du
monde des arts ? Ou bien souhaitent-t-ils, par le biais du détournement, dénoncer
nos égarements devant des questions essentielles ?
8TH EDITION THEME
At a moment when the art world is questioning its alignment, its institutions and its economy,
it is timely to challenge the work itself as well. Symbols created by consumer culture through mass media are now a part of our daily visual
world and influence the way we choose to express our identity.
Has this inclination insinuated itself in the minds of artists to respond to the expectations
of the public or of the art world? Does this mannerist tendency seek to reassure, or does it
criticize our confusion in the face of crucial questions?

Le festival Art Souterrain est heureux de s’associer à nouveau à la Nuit
blanche pour ouvrir la 8 e édition de son exposition monumentale dans le
réseau souterrain. Sur un parcours gratuit de 7 kilomètres, les festivaliers
pourront découvrir le travail de 70 artistes ou collectifs locaux, nationaux
et internationaux.
Festival Art Souterrain is happy to partner once again with Nuit blanche for its 8th
edition, launching its one of a kind exhibit in the underground networks. Walking
along a free 7 km circuit, visitors will discover the work of over 70 artists, comprised
of emerging, national and international artists.
Deux commissaires montréalaises ont participé à la programmation : Anaïs
Castro et Marie-Josée Rousseau. Nous sommes également ravis de présenter
cette année des œuvres issues de trois grandes collections : Loto-Québec (Place
Ville Marie), la Banque d’œuvres du Conseil des arts du Canada (Place Victoria)
et l’Arsenal (Centre de Commerce mondial de Montréal).
En espérant vous y croiser, je vous souhaite beaucoup de plaisir dans ces
rencontres artistiques.
Two curators from Montreal, Anaïs Castro & Marie-Josée Rousseau, have contributed
to the festival’s programming. We are also thrilled to present the artworks issued
from three big collections: Loto-Quebec (Place Ville Marie), the Art bank of the
Canada Council for the Arts (Place Victoria) and l’Arsenal (Centre de Commerce
mondial de Montréal).
We are looking forward to seeing you in the Montreal underground network for plenty
of artistic events to enjoy.

ACTIVITÉS PRÉSENTÉES UNIQUEMENT DANS LE CADRE DE LA NUIT BLANCHE DE 18 h À 1 h
PERFORMANCES
Afin de vous familiariser avec les œuvres des artistes, 100 médiateurs culturels
seront présents dans les différents édifices pour répondre à toutes vos questions.
Rendez-vous à la Place Bonaventure à partir de 18 h pour découvrir
deux performances d’artistes. Rah vous initie à un atelier interactif de danse
traditionnelle iranienne. Chun Hua Catherine Dong proposera la performance
de danse contemporaine Yellow Umbrella. Hugues Clément présentera une
performance de vidéomapping.
Au Complexe Guy-Favreau, venez découvrir l’artiste Oli Sorenson qui
crée des œuvres à partir de la destruction de ses composantes.
Over 100 cultural mediators will be available on different sites of the circuit to help guide
you through the network and to answer your questions about the artworks.
RENCONTRES D’ARTISTES
Certains artistes seront présents à la Nuit blanche pour expliquer plus en détail
leur démarche artistique. Vous pourrez échanger avec eux sur leur vision du
thème du festival et leur processus de création.

Many artists will be there to explain in details their artistic approach. You will be invited
to exchange with them about the theme of the festival as well as their creative process.
Artists who will be there are indicated by an * (on the next pages).
Meet us at Place Bonaventure from 6 pm to discover two artists’ performance. Rah
propose an interactive traditional Iranian dance workshop. Chun Hua Catherine Dong is
presenting a contemporary dance perfomance titled Yellow Umbrella. Hugues Clément
will perform a piece of videomapping.
At Guy-Favreau Complex, discover the artist Oli Sorenson who creates work from
the destruction of its components.
Le festival se poursuit jusqu’au 20 mars 2016. Vous pouvez aussi découvrir notre parcours satellite d’expositions dans plusieurs lieux culturels.
The festival will continue until March 20 2016. You can also discover our satellite circuit in many cultural locations.
