Confederation Line: Ottawa’s Light Rail Transit System
Construction of the Confederation Line, Ottawa’s largest transportation infrastructure project since the building
of the Rideau Canal, began in spring 2013.
The Confederation Line is the first phase of Light Rail Transit (LRT) in Ottawa. It includes 13 stations along
12.5 km alignment and features a 2.5 km tunnel under the downtown core with 3 underground stations. The
system will service uOttawa with two nearby stations, uOttawa and Lees.
Confederation Line and uOttawa – East Portal
A significant part of the Confederation Line project is the construction of the downtown tunnel. The tunnel is
being constructed through 3 points of entry, including the East Portal located next to uOttawa’s campus, on
Waller Street, south of Laurier Avenue East. Tunnel excavation is moving north from the East Portal toward
Rideau Station.
Twenty-four hour tunnel construction using the roadheader and other supporting equipment is underway from
the East Portal and is scheduled to be completed in 2017. In support of tunnel construction other activities
visible on-site can include the movement of workers, mobilization of construction equipment and vehicles and
storage and removal of excavated materials.

Please be advised of the following:

Motorists – ‘No-right-turn’ at Nicholas Street and Laurier Avenue (detour options available).

Pedestrians – restrictions at the north-south crossing on Laurier/Nicholas and Laurier/Waller
intersections - please proceed with caution as these are high traffic areas.

Pedestrians – limited sidewalk
access along Waller Street.

Transit Riders– service to Laurier
and Campus will be maintained
during construction.


Ligne de la Confédération : Système de train léger sur rail d’Ottawa
Les travaux de construction de la Ligne de la Confédération, le plus important projet d’infrastructure des
transports d’Ottawa depuis la construction du canal Rideau, ont débuté au printemps 2013.
La Ligne de la Confédération, qui constitue la première phase du train léger sur rail (TLR) à Ottawa, comprend
13 stations réparties sur un tracé de 12,5 km, et se distingue par un tunnel de 2,5 km traversant le centre-ville
et 3 stations souterraines. Le réseau desservira l’Université d’Ottawa avec deux stations voisines, uOttawa et
Lees.
Ligne de la Confédération et Université d’Ottawa – Portail Est
Le tunnel du centre-ville est un volet important du projet de Ligne de la Confédération. Le tunnel est construit
à partir de trois points d’entrée, dont le portail est, situé à côté du campus de l’Université d’Ottawa, et sur la
rue Waller au sud de l’avenue Laurier. L’excavation se fait vers le nord à partir du portail est, vers la station
Rideau.
La construction du tunnel, 24 heures sur 24, à l’aide de la machine de traçage et d’autre équipement d’appui
est commencée à partir du portail est et devrait être terminée en 2017. Pour appuyer la construction du tunnel,
d’autres activités visibles sur les lieux peuvent comprendre le déplacement de travailleurs, la mobilisation
d’équipement de construction et de véhicules ainsi que l’entreposage et l’élimination de matériaux excavés.
Mobilité autour de l’entrée est du tunnel
Veuillez noter ce qui suit :

Automobilistes – Interdit de tourner à droite à l’avenue Laurier de la rue Nicholas (options de détour
disponibles).

Piétons – Restrictions de franchissement des intersections Laurier/Nicholas et Laurier/Waller, en
direction nord-sud - Avancer avec précaution, la circulation y étant intense.

Piétons – Accès limité au trottoir le long de la rue Waller.

Transport en commun – Pendant
les travaux, la rue Laurier et la
station Campus continueront d’être
desservies.

