ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The Canadian Institutes of Health Research – Institute of Genetic (CIHR-IG), together
with the Canadian Gene Cure Foundation, are pleased to host the 5th Annual
Canadian Human and Statistical Genetics Meeting (CHSGM), taking place at the
Halifax Harbourfront Marriott in Halifax, Nova Scotia from April 16-19, 2016. This
conference follows the fourth joint Canadian Human and Statistical Genetics
Meeting held in Vancouver, British Columbia, April 18-21, 2015, attended by over
230 people. These meetings are built on the successes of six Canadian Genetic
Epidemiology and Statistical Genetics meetings and four Canadian Human Genetics
conferences.
The conference in 2016 will bring together researchers, clinicians, trainees, and
industry representatives to offer mentoring, networking, and collaboration
opportunities. The program spans four days and is designed to address the
priorities of the Human Genomics community in Canada. This year’s edition will
include a special focus on the analysis of big data in the context of the development
of personalized medicine approaches and integration into the healthcare system.
This is highlighted in the work of Newfoundland and Labrador New Translational
and Personalized Medicine Initiative, which demonstrates the key role of statistical
science in this project. Big data analysis can also be seen in the partnership between
Genomics England and Genome British Columbian. To bring together researchers
working in different areas of specialty, plenary sessions presented by leading
scientists and selected trainees are scheduled with more specific workshops
running in parallel tracks.
