Biographie - Simone Gilges (1973 - Bonn, Allemagne). Vit et travaille à Berlin depuis 1995. Après des études en communication visuelle (HdK, Berlin) et en photographie et design (FH Dortmund), Simone Gilges développe une activité d’artiste
plasticienne et de photographe (notamment à travers la réalisation de portraits
pour la presse ou encore pour des musiciens). Elle travaille de manière autonome ou
collaborative au sein du rémarqué Honey-Suckle Company (HSC), collectif berlinois
fondé en 1995 et regroupant Petr S. Kisur, Nico Ihlein, N. Pleasure, Zille Homma
Hamid, Friedrich M. Lloch et Simone Gilges. Depuis 2003, elle est également éditrice de la revue freier_magazine for states of mind, manifeste impertinent et organique d’une génération d’artistes, musiciens et designers, devenu culte grâce à
sa liberté de ton et de fonctionnement (auto-production, édition limitée, distribué
de main à main...etc.). Simone Gilges est aussi à l’initiative de deux espaces indépendants («artist run project spaces») présentant des expositions, lectures et
performances: Allergie Raum au sein des Kunstwerke de Berlin avec Honey-Suckle
Company de 1999 à 2002 et Neue Dokumente de 2003 à 2005, à Berlin également.
Son travail a fait l’objet de nombreuses expositions personnelles à l’international:
CRAC Alsace, France; Marquise Dance Hall, Istanbul; Kunsthalle Basel (HSC), Bâle;
Cubitt Gallery (HSC), Londres; Frankfurter Kunstverein (freier), Francfort; Badischer
Kunstverein (freier), Karlsruhe. Simone Gilges est représentée par les galeries Giti
Nourbakhsch à Berlin et Foxy Production à New York.
Biography - Simone Gilges (1973 - Bonn, Germany) has lived and worked in Berlin
since 1995. After studies in visual communication (HdK, Berlin) and photo-design
(FH Dortmund), Simone Gilges worked as a visual artist and a freelance photographer (particularly through portraiture for the press and for musicians). Although she
works alone she has also worked collectively within the notable Honey-Suckle Company (HSC), a Berlin-based collective founded in 1995 and regrouping Petr S. Kisur,
Nico Ihlein, N. Pleasure, Zille Homma Hamid, Friedrich M. Lloch and Simone Gilges.
Since 2003, she has also been the publisher of freier_magazine for states of mind,
an impertinent and organic manifesto of a generation of artists, musicians and
designers, which has become a cult publication thanks to its freedom of expression
and production (self-publishing, limited editions, distribution through friends, etc.).
Simone Gilges also founded two artist-run project spaces showcasing exhibitions,
lectures and performances: Allergie Raum within the Berlin Kunstwerke with HSC
between 1999 and 2002 and Neue Dokumente from 2003 to 2005, also in Berlin.
Her work was shown internationally in diverse solo exhibitions in places such as
CRAC Alsace, France; Marquise Dance Hall, Istanbul; Kunsthalle Basel (HSC), Basel;
Cubitt Gallery (HSC), London; Frankfurter Kunstverein (freier), Frankfurt; Badischer
Kunstverein (freier), Karlsruhe. Simone Gilges is represented by Giti Nourbakhsch in
Berlin and Foxy Production in New York.
Cet ouvrage regroupe trois carnets, présentant différentes facettes du travail
de Simone Gilges:

- un numéro spécial de la revue freier, comprenant une conversation avec Simone

Les éditions Peeping Tom est une collection de livres d’artistes. À partir d’un cadre
formel identique (format 20 x 15 cm; 64 pages maximum; impression laser/photocopies; édition limitée à 250 exemplaires), chaque publication est dédiée à l’univers
d’un artiste au sens large (plasticien, photographe, musicien, chorégraphe, poète,
réalisateur, performer...etc.). Cette collection est le fruit d’un désir de se consacrer
pleinement à l’essentiel à savoir la création et le plaisir d’une collaboration entre
artiste et éditeur. Soucieux de produire de manière autonome et spontanée tout en
conservant un prix public accessible, cette collection se détache des contraintes
administratives, logistiques et financières de l’édition d’art indépendante : le prix de
vente de chaque exemplaire est celui de sa fabrication et ces livres sont uniquement
distribués à travers nos événements et notre site internet.

Les éditions Peeping Tom project is a humble collection of artists books. Each publication is dedicated specifically to the milieu of one artist (visual artist, photographer, musician, choreographer, poet, movie director, performer, etc.), a carte blanche
within a specific framework (format 20 x 15 cm; 64 pages maximum; laser printing;
limited edition of 250 copies). This collection stems from a desire to focus on the
essential: the creation and the opportunity of a collaboration between an artist and
a publisher. Willing to produce in an autonomous and spontaneous manner, while
keeping the retail price affordable, this collection breaks away from the administrative, logistical and financial confines of independent art publishing: each copy
is sold for the price of its production and these books are only sold through Peeping
Tom’s events and Web site.
