Un demi-siècle d’expérience au service de la protection de l’homme…
A half century of experience in protecting mankind…
La création de la Marque remonte à 1951. L’entreprise qui va donner naissance à
Bering s’appelle Plastex. Un groupe dont l’activité principale repose sur la conception
et la fabrication de vêtements de protection pour deux-roues et dont l’une des filiales
était elle spécialisée dans la fabrication de vêtements pour les marins aux longs cours.
Un métier qui expose les hommes aux rigueurs d’une vie à bord aux conditions
exigeantes et aux intempéries (humidité permanente, froide, abrasion saline…). Du
simple matelot au capitaine, chacun est à la recherche de vêtements de protection
ultra efficaces mais aussi confortables. A ces critères s’ajoute bien sûr l’absence
d’entrave ou gène des mouvements dans les gestes quotidiens.
Our Brand was created back in 1951. The company that was to give birth to Bering was
called Plastex. A group whose primary business was based on designing and making
protective clothing for bikers and with a subsidiary company specialising in making clothes
for blue water sailors. A life that exposed men to the rigours of life on-board under
demanding conditions and in the face of the elements (constant dampness, cold, salt
abrasion…). From able seaman to captain, each and everyone of the crew is looking for
ultra efficient but also comfortable clothing. Naturally the selection criteria also include
the absence of any hindrance or restriction affecting everyday movement.
Avant signe de ce qui reste toujours au cœur de la philosophie de la Marque,
l’innovation technique, Plastex avait développé et mis au point une gamme de
vêtements professionnels imperméables en utilisant un procédé de thermo-soudure.
Une technique d’avant-garde pour l’époque et qui reste encore largement employée
dans les vêtements pour activités « engagées ».
Aujourd’hui encore Bering innove et ajoute à ses techniques de fabrication éprouvées
les soudures à l’ultra son, particulièrement adaptées à certaines nouvelles fibres
textiles composites de dernière génération.

Réputée pour la robustesse et la fiabilité de ses produits, l’idée de doter la Marque
Plastex d’un symbole est venue d’une analogie pendant la mise au point des
équipements des terre-neuvas. Ces chalutiers de haute mer partaient pour les
campagnes de pêche de plusieurs semaines sur les bancs de Terre-neuve au sud du
Groenland… En écoutant les récits de vie à bord pour mieux comprendre les besoins
des équipages, les ingénieurs de Plastex avaient relevé les propos qui soulignaient
l’admirable « équipement naturel » dont bénéficiait l’ours polaire en matière de
protection au froid, à la glace, au vent… C’est ainsi que cet animal emblématique fit
sa première apparition sur les vêtements produits par la Marque.
Le nom de Bering fut ensuite adopté pour renforcer la vocation des produits de
l’entreprise.
Point de jonction entre l’Alaska et la Sibérie, situé sous 60° parallèle, le détroit de
Bering est en glace plusieurs mois par an. Balayé par des vents violents, marqué par
un climat d’une extrême rudesse, ce milieu inhospitalier n’est habité que par des
animaux aux organismes et aux systèmes de protection adaptés pour résister à ces
conditions climatiques.
Il résume les conditions de vie à bord d’un chalutier de haute mer. Bering apportait
une réponse efficace aux hommes qui affrontaient ces rigueurs.
En alliant tradition de qualité et quête permanente d’innovation, la Marque a rencontré
très rapidement un succès auprès des utilisateurs de deux-roues. En avance
technologique, notamment sur la qualité d’étanchéité de ses produits, Bering a
concentré ses efforts sur la sécurité passive du pilote. Protéger en cas de chute venait
s’ajouter aux incontournables règles de barrières thermiques, d’étanchéité et de
confort de l’utilisateur.
Depuis sa création, Bering écrit son histoire sur le couple sécurité-qualité. Pour vous.

Plastex designed and perfected a range of waterproof professional clothing using a heat
welding process. A cutting edge technique for that time, and one that is, even now, still
widely used on clothes for "committed" activities.
Today, Bering continues to innovate, adding ultrasonic welding to the range of its tried
and tested manufacturing techniques, an approach especially suited to some of the new
latest generation composite textile fibres.
Already renown for the solidity and reliability of its products, the idea was born of giving
the Plastex brand a symbol. It was to come of an analogy that arose while perfecting the
equipment destined for the Newfoundland fishing boats. These deep sea trawlers took
to the sea for many weeks at a time, fishing the cod banks of Newfoundland, south of
Greenland… While listening to tales of life on board, to better understand the crewmen's
needs, Plastex engineers noted a reference to the admirable "natural equipment" that
Polar Bears had to protect themselves from the cold, the ice, the wind… This is how this
emblematic animal made its first appearance on the clothing made by the Brand.
The Bering name was taken later to underline the purpose of the company's products.
The Bering Strait is the point where Alaska and Siberia come together, located under the
60° parallel. The Bering Strait is icebound many months every year. Swept by violent winds
and marked by an extremely harsh climate, this inhospitable environment is only inhabited
by animals with organisms and protection systems suited to resisting these climate
conditions.
Summarising the conditions of life onboard an ocean going trawler. Bering provided an
effective answer to men facing these rigours.
By combining a tradition of quality with a continuous search for innovation, the Brand
soon gained success with bikers. With a technological advance, especially in the
waterproofing qualities of its products, Bering concentrated its efforts on rider's passive
safety. Protecting riders in the event of a fall became another factor to add to the
unchanging rules of thermal barriers, waterproofing and user comfort.
Ever since Bering was founded, it has written history in safety-quality. For You.

notre politique rigoureuse d’homologation CE et de l’exigence des tests
produits que nous réalisons en laboratoire, nous pensons que la réalité du
terrain correspond au degré le plus élevé et le plus fiable en mesure
d’efficacité et de qualité d’un produit.
Ce que la nature, les éléments réels - vent, pluie… infligent aux produits et
surtout l’utilisation qu’en font les hommes, dépasse souvent l’imagination de
celles et ceux qui les testent en laboratoire ou dans les bureaux de normes.
Le principe consiste à organiser un raid de plusieurs
milliers de kms dans des pays où les conditions
climatiques et de circulation mettent à rude épreuve les
hommes et les matériels. Volontairement engagées, ces
expéditions s’effectuent dans des conditions de confort très
sommaire. Et parfois la nuit prolonge le jour car en l’absence
d’hébergement digne de ce nom, le bivouac s’organise…

Quite apart from the demanding quality standards required at Bering,
our strict CE approval policy and the requirement for extensive product
tests which we perform in the laboratory, we believe that the reality out
in the field still remains the ultimate and most reliable measure of the effectiveness
or quality of a product.
The battering which Mother Nature inflicts on products (the elements, wind and rain,
etc.) and above all the uses that human beings can put them through often exceed
the imagination of those who test products in laboratories or standards compliancetesting organisations.
Finally, not everything can be analysed in a laboratory, including aspects such as
comfort, the effectiveness of the protection after a combination of several factors,
the "drying" capacity in humid or cold conditions, the thermal protection when water
has got in and an effective seal against sandstorms, etc.
All of these situations are impossible to accurately reproduce under experimental
conditions, despite the fact that you risk experiencing them one day on your bike.
For this reason, three years ago we set up a team of riders given the task of testing
a selection of products under extreme, uncompromising conditions!
The principle involves organising tours of several thousand kilometres in countries in
which the climatic and traffic conditions push both men and equipment to the limit.
Deliberately organised for this purpose, these expeditions proceed under very basic
conditions of comfort. And sometimes the nights can run into days as due to the lack
of any accommodation worth its name, the crews are forced to break out the bivouacs
and sleep in their clothes, sometimes for the whole night!

Enfin tout ne peut pas être analysé en laboratoire : le confort, l’efficacité du
niveau de protection après la combinaison de multiples facteurs conjugués
inopportunément… La capacité de « séchage » en milieu humide ou froid, la
protection thermique lorsque l’eau est infiltrée, l’étanchéité aux tempêtes de
sable… Autant de situations impossibles à reproduire en chambre
d’expérience… mais que l’on risque de vivre sur sa machine.
C’est pourquoi nous avons créé il y a trois ans une
équipe de pilotes chargée de tester une sélection de
produits dans des conditions extrêmes… et sans
concession !

La fiabilité des produits Bering n’est pas une

La volonté est de mettre à disposition de
tous un « traducteur » clair et
compréhensible présentant l’ensemble de
la technicité entrant dans nos produits et

Un pilote de deux-roues est exposé en
permanence à des dangers objectifs.
L’absence d’habitacle nécessite de parer
au mieux les “agressions” dont il peut être
victime : vent, froid, pluie… et parfois choc.

A biker is continually exposed to real-life
dangers. The absence of a car body around them
makes it necessary to best counter any
"aggression" that they could fall victim to: wind,
cold, rain… and sometimes a crash.

L’eau qu’elle soit sous forme de
pluie, neige, grêle, brume,
brouillard… Sous ses divers
aspects, elle peut être la cause de
gènes qui augmentent avec la
vitesse. Mais la protection qui
consiste à offrir un rempart à ses
agressions en bloquant son
intrusion et protégeant le pilote
n’est pas suffisante. Il faut aussi
pouvoir évacuer l’eau vers
l’extérieur.
Gérer ces deux effets – bloquer
l’entrée et réguler l’évacuation de
l’eau - nécessite le développement
et la mise en œuvre de nouveaux
textiles aux propriétés adéquates et
de techniques de fabrication
appropriées (enduction, thermo
soudure, coutures en gouttières…)
Le froid accentué par les saisons,
ses variations dépendent également du climat de la région où vous
vous trouvez.
Son effet dépend aussi de la vitesse
à laquelle vous roulez.
Les conséquences d’un refroidissement corporel peuvent affecter
directement votre sécurité en
gênant votre conduite :
- Engourdissement (mains, pieds)
- Perte de sensibilité.
- Douleurs/brûlures
- Hypothermie générale.
Les chutes, les chocs… En cas d’accident le motard atteint
son niveau de vulnérabilité maximale. Sa protection devient
essentielle, tout en sachant qu’une efficacité à 100% n’est
pas atteignable. Toutefois l’abaissement du niveau des
dommages corporels fait l’objet de recherches constantes
chez Bering.
Et les instances européennes ont apporté leurs réponses en
définissant des normes établissant les caractéristiques et
les niveaux requis pour les vêtements de protection pour les
motocyclistes professionnels, Bering est aujourd’hui la seule
marque du marché européen à commercialiser un ensemble
blouson-pantalon répondant à ce niveau d’exigence.
Atteindre ces standards de sécurité n’est possible qu’en
possédant une maîtrise accomplie de la conception de
vêtements de protection, puis en faisant appel à des
matériaux haut de gamme, connus pour leurs propriétés de
résistance, à des techniques de fabrication rigoureuses, et à
des processus de contrôle qui démarrent dès la phase de
conception des produits jusqu’à leur réception dans notre
centre logistique.
Chez Bering le confort n’implique
pas seulement le bien-être du
pilote : il prend aussi en compte la
dimension Sécurité. Accroître la
marge de manœuvre du pilote en
lui apportant des « plus » produit
qui permettent une meilleure
position de conduite, réduisent les
efforts physiques et privilégient

des soins que nous apportons dans
ce domaine fait que les pilotes
équipés en Bering peuvent rouler
plus longtemps et plus souvent.

rain, snow, hale, mist, fog… In its

manufacturing techniques (coating,
heat welding, gutter type stitching…).

Falling, hitting something… If an accident occurs, a bike
rider is at their most vulnerable. Then their protection
becomes essential, while always knowing that 100%
efficiency cannot be achieved. Nevertheless, reducing the
degree of bodily harm is the subject of ongoing research
at Bering.
At the same time, European bodies have brought their
response by setting out standards that define the
characteristics and the levels required for protective
clothing for use by professional motorcycle riders. Bering

Depuis des années le confort est un critère important

ADT est un système de serrage créé et développé par
le bureau d’études BERING. Son principe consiste à
placer sur la poitrine et les biceps des moyens de
serrage permettant d’adapter parfaitement le
vêtement à la morphologie de chacun, en un seul
mouvement. Ce maintien est un apport de confort pour
le pilote, particulièrement appréciable sur longue

En réduisant considérablement le battement à vitesse
soutenue, il évite la fatigue et le bruit et améliore ainsi
sensiblement la sécurité.
Avec le système de ventilation ADS, il est désormais
possible de régler soi-même le fl ux d’air qui entre et

En usine : Contrôle aléatoire en
cours de fabrication et en fin de
fabrication (selon la norme AQF),
avec une attention particulière
aux matériaux, aux coutures, au
montage, à l’étanchéité, aux
tailles et aux éléments de finition.

Afin d’offrir un service toujours plus performant, BERING a
développé depuis plus de 10 ans son propre Service Après
Vente composé d’une équipe de 4 personnes à temps plein qui
prennent soin des réparations des produits de l’ensemble de
la gamme BERING.
Grâce à cette organisation, nous sommes en mesure d’assurer
une qualité de service qui est l’une des valeurs fondamentales
de la marque. En cas de souci avéré sur un produit vendu, il
vous suffit de demander à votre client final de vous rapporter
le produit défaillant accompagné de son justificatif d’achat et
de nous le retourner en complétant la fiche de retour.
Notre Service Après Vente s’occupera alors du vêtement
concerné. Si le produit BERING concerné n’est plus couvert
par la garantie, c’est notre Service Réparation qui établira
alors un devis sur mesure pour le remettre à neuf, quand cela
est possible.
En cas de chute ou d’accroc, le principe de fonctionnement
est identique. Votre client est alors libre d’accepter ou non la
réparation.
Il est à noter que les échanges entre vous et nous, ainsi que le
retour du produit sont totalement gratuits pour votre client final.
