Operating the Pencam
Turning the PenCam On
•
Press the power/record button (on top off the pen) and hold until the both the
orange and blue lights turn on then release it. When the camera is ready to use
the orange standby light will stay on and the blue light will turn off.
•
The orange light will blink when it is on standby in picture mode or stay lit when
it is on standby in video mode.
Turning the PenCam Off
•
With the PenCam on standby press and hold the power/record button until the
orange light turns off.
•
The PenCam will not switch off if you do this while the PenCam is in Video mode
and recording.
•
If the PenCam is recording you must press the button once to stop recording and
return to standby (static orange light) then press and hold the button until the
orange light turns off.
Introduction
Switching between Video and Picture
To switch between Video and Picture mode,
unscrew the PenCam to reveal the USB
connector. Using the tip of a pen or fingernail,
move the selection switch (pictured) to 1 for
PICTURE or 2 for VIDEO.

Installing a micro-SD card
The PenCam stores the VIDEO and PICTURES to standard micro-SD flash cards.
To insert a micro-SD card, separate the two parts of the pen to reveal the USB port.
The micro-SD port is on the other side of the USB port.
Slide the card into the slot making sure the gold contacts on the micro-SD card are
face down. Push the card gently into the slot until you feel some resistance. DO NOT
force the card in as this may damage your card and the PenCam.
To remove the card, slide the micro-SD card out using a fingernail as leverage against
the notch on the top edge of the micro-SD card.

Note: The PenCam switches itself off after 30 seconds in standby mode to preserve battery life.

1.
Make sure the PenCam is off and that the selection switch inside the Pencam set
to 2 (video mode).
2.
Press and hold the button. A blue and orange light will illuminate simultaneously
for about two seconds. Keep holding the button until the blue light disappears
leaving just the orange light glowing. The PenCam is now in video standby
mode.
3.
From video standby mode, press the button to start recording. The orange light
will change to blue to indicate recording.
4.
Press the button again to end recording. The camera will save the video to
the card and the blue light will change back to orange to indicate it is back in
standby mode.
Note: Plugging the PenCam into a USB port during recording will stop the recording.

Mounting the Camera
IMPORTANT NOTE: When stopping a recording push the button only 1 time. The
PenCam will write the video to memory. Depending on the length and complexity of
the video there may be several seconds delay. Do not push the button again during
this time or data loss may occur.
Note: The PenCam will automatically save video in 20 minute blocks.
Note: If you shift the selection switch from video mode to camera mode while recording video, the Pencam will save the video and then enter camera standby mode.
Charging the PenCam
The PenCam has a built in lithium-ion battery that provides approximately 45
minutes of power when fully charged.
Charge the PenCam by connecting the hidden USB connector inside the PenCam to
a USB port on your computer. The status LED will slowly flash orange while charging.
Full charge time is approximately 90 minutes. The PenCam will stop flashing when it
is fully charged.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Before using the PenCam for the first time, connect it to a USB
port and charge it fully. The PenCam will not function as a camera while it is plugged
into the USB port.
Downloading and Viewing Video
When the PenCam is connected to a computer running Windows XP, Windows Vista,
Windows 7 or Mac OS X, the operating system will automatically recognize the device
and install the correct drivers.
Navigate to the Removable Disk in My Computer to view, copy or delete files just like
a portable hard drive or flash drive.
Playback video recordings on your PC with media players such as VLC, winDVD,
powerDVD etc., (not supplied) capable of decoding H263 format AVI files.
Setting the Date and Time on a PC
To set the Date and Time so that your photos and video files are time and date
stamped:
1.
Connect the PenCam to your PC.
2.
Run the WriteTime.exe file on the included CD. It will find your PenCam after a
few seconds and the “Update” button will become clickable.
3.
Click on the “Update” button. The PenCam will be set with the current date and
time from your computer by creating four files on your microSD card. Do not
delete these files.
4.
Remove the PenCam from the computer and turn on the PenCam. Pictures and
videos will now be time stamped with the updated date and time.

Troubleshooting
Setting the date and time on Mac OS X
The writetime.exe file is for use only on PC. To set the time using Mac OS X, you will
need to create a text file and place it on the microSD card that you have installed in
the PenCam.
The text file must be called time.txt.
Inside the text file, type the date and time in the format: yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss.
Therefore, fifteen seconds past 2:02pm on December 25th 2011 would be written as:
2011-12-25 14:02:15. Note the use of 24-hour time. Ensure you save your changes
and that the text file is located in the root of the microSD. This means it should not be
in any folders or sub-folders.
Remove the PenCam from the computer and turn on the PenCam. Pictures and
videos will now be time stamped with the updated date and time.
Troubleshooting
Problem: The PenCam takes a long time to boot or save recordings
Solution: Clear or back up some or all of the files from the PenCam. The more storage
used up in the PenCam the longer it may take to boot or process saved files.
Problem: Some of my videos or image won’t play on my computer.
Solution: Videos and images can become corrupt and will not play if the PenCam is
not used as described in this manual. Pushing the button several times or holding
the button can result in corrupt videos. Wait until the PenCam has finished processing before pressing the button again.
Problem: My PenCam will not record.
Solution: Make sure the PenCam is not plugged into a USB port. Make sure the PenCam is charged.
Problem: I cannot turn my PenCam off or it is not responding.
Solution: Make sure the PenCam is not recording. If the blue light is on, push the
button once, when the light changes to orange, press and hold until the orange light
turns off. If you are still unable to turn off the PenCam, push the reset button.
Changing Ink Cartridges
To change cartridges, unscrew the bottom half of the pen from the top half and using
a Phillips head screwdriver, unscrew the ink cartridge.
Replace the ink cartridge with a compatible refill and screw it into place.

Resetting the PenCam
If the PenCam is not responding correctly you may need to reset the PenCam.
To reset the PenCam use a toothpick or non-metal pointed object to push the reset
button which is located about 1 inch below the Orange/Blue light. Metal objects
may damage the PenCam and should be avoided. This will not reset the time or
delete any files.
Use this only if the PenCam is not responding.
Formatting the micro-SD card
The microSD card can be formatted from the PenCam.
1.
Ensure the microSD card is installed in the PenCam.
2.
Plug the PenCam into a USB port on your PC.
3.
Open MY COMPUTER.
4.
Find the PenCam drive and right click it.
5.
Click FORMAT
6.
Click start
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you format the microSD card, all data will be permanently lost.

Fonctionnement du stylo caméra
Activer le PenCam
•
Appuyez sur le bouton (en haut du stylo) et maintenez-le enfoncé jusqu’à ce que les

Le PenCam ne s’éteindra pas si vous le faites quand le PenCam est en mode Vidéo et en
cours d’enregistrement.
•
Si le PenCam est en cours d’enregistrement, vous devez appuyer une fois sur le bouton
pour passer en mode veille (témoin orange allumé en continu) et appuyez ensuite en
maintenant enfoncé le bouton jusqu’à ce que le témoin orange s’éteigne.

dévisser la PenCam pour accéder au connecteur

Installer une carte micro-SD
La PenCam stocke les VIDÉOS et les IMAGES sur des cartes mémoires flash micro-SD standards.
Pour insérer une carte micro-SD, séparer les deux parties du stylo pour accéder au port USB. Le
port micro-SD est de l’autre côté du port USB.
Glisser la carte dans la fente en s’assurant que les contacts dorés sur la carte micro-SD soient
vers le bas. Pousser délicatement la carte dans la fente jusqu’à ce que vous sentiez une certaine
résistance. NE PAS forcer la carte à l’intérieur puisque ceci pourrait endommager votre carte
et la PenCam.

REMARQUE IMPORTANTE: Pour arrêter un enregistrement, n’appuyez qu’une seule fois
sur le bouton. Le PenCam enregistre la Vidéo dans la mémoire. Suivant la durée et la complexité de la vidéo, il peut y avoir plusieurs secondes de délai. Ne ré-appuyez pas sur le bouton
pendant ce temps car vous risquez de perdre des données.

Mounting the Camera
Charger le PenCam
Le PenCam a une pile lithium-ion incorporée qui fournie approximativement 45 min
d’autonomie lorsqu’elle est complètement chargée.

Télécharger et visionner une vidéo
Lorsque le PenCam est connecté à un ordinateur personnel, Windows XP, Windows Vista,
Windows 7 et Mac OS X reconnaîtront automatiquement l’appareil et installeront les bons
fichiers pilotes.
Naviguer jusqu’au Disque amovible dans Mon ordinateur pour voir, copier ou effacer les
fichiers, tout comme vous le feriez pour un disque dur portable ou une mémoire flash.
Lisez les enregistrements vidéo sur votre PC avec des lecteurs multimédias comme VLC,
winDVD, powerDVD etc., (non fournis) capables de décoder des fichiers en format AVI H263.
Régler la date et l’heure sur un PC
Pour définir ou modifier la date et l’heure:
1.
Connectez le à votre PC PenCam, et d’y accéder comme vous le feriez un port USB lecteur
flash.
2.
Exécutez le fichier WRITETIME.EXE.
3.
Cliquez sur bouton Actualiser (Update). La PenCam sera réglée pour la date et l’heure
courante de votre ordinateur en créant quatre fichiers sur votre carte micro-SD. Ne pas
supprimer ces fichiers.
4.
Retirez le PenCam de l’ordinateur et allumez le PenCam. Les vidéos et photos seront-être
temps maintenant timbre indiquant la date et l’heure de mise à jour.

Troubleshooting
Régler la date et l’heure sur un Mac OS X
Le fichier writetime.exe ne doit être utilisé que sur un PC. Pour régler l’heure avec Mac OS X,
vous devrez créer un fichier texte et le placer sur la carte micro-SD que vous avez installée dans
la PenCam.
1.
Raccordez le PenCam à votre PC.
2.
Créez un nouveau fichier .txt à l’aide de TextEdit.
3.
Tapez la date et l’heure au format suivant : AAAA-MM-JJ HH:MM:SS (par ex. : 2009-03-13
21:53:58).
4.
Enregistrez le fichier sous le nom time.txt et placez-le dans le répertoire racine de
PenCam. Ce fichier ne doit donc pas être dans un dossier ou sous-dossier.
5.
Retirez le PenCam de l’ordinateur et mettez-le en marche. Les vidéos et photo seront
horodatées avec la nouvelle date et heure.
Guide de résolution des problèmes
Problème: Le PenCam met longtemps à s’amorcer ou à enregistrer les enregistrements.
Solution: Effacer ou archiver certains ou tous les fichiers du PenCam. Plus le PenCam utilise
de mémoire, plus il est long à s’amorcer ou à traiter les fichiers sauvegardés.
Problème: Certaines de mes vidéos ne parviennent pas à être lues sur mon ordinateur.
Solution: Les vidéos peuvent être corrompues et ne pas pouvoir être lues si le PenCam n’est
pas utilisé de la manière décrite dans ce manuel. Appuyer plusieurs fois sur le bouton ou maintenir enfoncé le bouton peut entraîner la corruption des vidéos. Attendez jusqu’à ce que le
PenCam ait fini le traitement des informations avant de ré-appuyer sur le bouton.
Problème: Je ne peux pas voir la moindre vidéo sur mon ordinateur.
Solution: Assurez-vous que le PenCam n’est pas connecté à un port USB. Assurez-vous que
le PenCam est chargé.
Problème: Je ne peux pas éteindre mon PenCam ou il ne répond pas.
Solution: Assurez-vous que le PenCam n’est pas en train d’enregistrer. Si le voyant bleu est allumé, appuyez une fois sur le bouton. Lorsque la couleur du voyant passe à l’orange, appuyez
sur le bouton et maintenez-le enfoncé jusqu’à ce que le voyant orange s’éteigne. Si vous ne
pouvez toujours pas éteindre le PenCam, enfoncez le bouton de réinitialisation.
Changer les cartouches d’encre
•
Pour changer les cartouches d’encre, dévissez la pointe du stylo comme si vous vouliez le
charger ou permuter entre les modes Vidéo et Image.
•
A l’aide d’un tournevis à tête croisée, dévissez le sommet de la cartouche d’encre.
•
Remplacez par une nouvelle cartouche d’encre et vissez-la dans la tête du stylo.

Réinitialiser le PenCam
Si le PenCam ne réagit pas correctement, vous devez peut-être le réinitialiser. Pour le
réinitialiser, utilisez un cure-dent ou un objet pointu non métallique pour enfoncer le bouton
de réinitialisation situé à environ 2,5 cm en-dessous du voyant orange / bleu. Les objets
métalliques peuvent endommager le PenCam et leur utilisation doit être évitée. Ceci ne
réinitialise ni l’heure ni n’efface aucun fichier.
Utilisez ceci si le PenCam ne répond pas.
Formater la carte micro-SD
La carte micro-SD peut être formatée à partir de la PenCam.
1.
S’assurer que la carte micro-SD est installée dans la PenCam.
2.
Raccordez le PenCam au port USB de votre PC.
3.
Ouvrez MON ORDINATEUR.
4.
Trouvez le disque du PenDrive et faites un clic droit dessus.
5.
Sélectionnez FORMAT
6.
Cliquez sur « Commencer »
REMARQUE IMPORTANTE : Si vous formatez la carte micro-SD, toutes les données seront
détruites de façon permanente. Pour réinitialiser la date et l’heure, suivre les instructions à la
page 5.

Funcionamiento de la PenCam

Presione el botón (en la parte superior del bolígrafo) y manténgalo así, hasta tanto las
lucecitas de colores naranja y azul se enciendan.
•
Cuando la cámara esté lista para su uso, la lucecita naranja que indica el modo en espera se
mantendrá encendida, mientras que la de color azul se apagará. (La lucecita naranja titilará
cuando esté en estado de espera dentro del modo de imagen, o permanecerá encendida
cuando se encuentre en estado de espera dentro del modo de video).

Instalación de una tarjeta micro SD
La PenCam almacena VIDEOS e IMÁGENES en tarjetas de memoria flash micro SD.
Para insertar una tarjeta micro SD, separe las dos partes de la lapicera para ver el puerto USB.
El puerto micro SD se encuentra del otro lado del puerto USB.
Deslice la tarjeta en la ranura asegurándose de que los contactos dorados de la tarjeta micro
SD estén cara abajo. Empuje suavemente la tarjeta en la ranura hasta que sienta algo de

Grabación
1.

3.
Presione el botón nuevamente para terminar la grabación. La lucecita azul se apagará.
Nota: La conexión del modelo PenCam a un puerto USB durante una grabación, detendrá
ésta última.
NOTA IMPORTANTE: Cuando vaya a detener una grabación, presione el botón una sola vez.
El modelo PenCam grabará el video en la memoria. Dependiendo de la duración y la complejidad del video, se puede esperar un retardo de varios segundos. No presione el botón nuevamente durante estos momentos; de lo contrario, se puede presentar una pérdida de datos.

Mounting the Camera
Recarga del modelo PenCam
El modelo PenCam lleva incluida una batería hecha con iones litio, que le proporciona
aproximadamente 45 minutos de carga cuando está totalmente cargada.
Recargue el modelo PenCam conectando el puerto disimulado USB que lleva dentro, al puerto
USB de su computador. Una lucecita naranja en el modelo Pencam brillará intermitentemente
indicando que se está cargando. El tiempo total de carga es de aproximadamente 90 minutos.
El modelo PenCam detendrá la luz titilante cuando esté totalmente cargado.
NOTA IMPORTANTE: Antes de utilizar el modelo PenCam por primera vez, conéctelo a un
puerto USB y cárguelo completamente durante 90 minutos. El modelo PenCam no trabajará
mientras esté conectado al puerto USB.
Descarga y proyección de un video
Cuando el modelo PenCam esté conectado a un PC con Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows
7 o Mac OS X, reconocerá automáticamente el dispositivo e instalará los controladores
necesarios.
Para ver, copiar o borrar archivos, navegue hasta el disco extraíble en “Mi Computadora”, tal
como si se tratará de un disco duro o de una memoria flash.
Proyecte en su PC las grabaciones de video utilizando medios audiovisuales como VLC,
winDVD, powerDVD, etc., (no vienen incluidos), que sean capaces de decodificar el formato
H263 y los archivos AVI.
Configuración de Fecha y Hora en una computadora
1.
Conecte el modelo PenCam a su PC.
2.
Ejecute el archivo WriteTime.exe en el CD incluido. Encontrará su PenCam después de
unos segundos y después podrá hacer clic en el botón “Actualizar” (Update).
3.
Haga clic en el botón Actualizar (Update). La PenCam se configurará con la fecha y hora
de su computadora mediante la creación de cuatro archivos en su tarjeta micro SD. No
elimine estos archivos.
4.
Retire el modelo PenCam del computador y enciéndalo.. Ahora aparecerán las fotos y los
videos marcados con la fecha y la hora actualizadas.

Troubleshooting
Configuración de fecha y hora en Mac OS X
El archivo writetime.exe es para uso exclusivo en una computadora. Para configurar la hora
con Mac OS X, necesitará crear un archivo de texto y colocarlo en la tarjeta micro SD que ha
instalado en la PenCam.
1.
Conecte el modelo PenCam a su PC.
2.
Cree un archivo nuevo .txt file, usando TextEdit.
3.
Digite la fecha y la hora en el siguiente formato: año-mes-día hora:minutos:segundos
(ejemplo: 2009-03-13 21:53:58).
4.
Guarde el archivo como setdate.txt y colóquelo en el directorio raíz del modelo PenCam.
Esto significa que no estará en ninguna carpeta o subcarpeta.
5.
Retire el modelo PenCam del computador y enciéndalo.. Ahora aparecerán los videos
marcados con la fecha y la hora actualizadas.
Guía de localización y solución de problemas
Problema: El modelo PenCam se toma un tiempo largo para arrancar o guardar las grabaciones.
Solución: Elimine o hágale back up a todos los archivos contenidos en el modelo PenCam.
Entre más capacidad de almacenamiento utilice en el modelo PenCam, más tiempo se demorará éste en arrancar o procesar los archivos guardados.
Problema: Algunos de mis videos no son reproducidos en mi computador.
Solución: Los videos pueden estar dañados y no se reproducirán, si el modelo PenCam no
es usado como se indica en este manual. Presionar el botón varias veces o mantener el botón
presionado, puede provocar el daño de los videos. Espere hasta que el modelo PenCam haya
terminado el proceso, antes de presionar el botón nuevamente.
Problema: No puedo apagar el modelo PenCam o no responde.
Solución: Asegúrese que el modelo PenCam no esté grabando. Si la lucecita azul está encendida presione una vez el botón; cuando su color cambie a color naranja, manténngalo
presionado hasta que ésta se apague. Si aún no puede apagar el modelo PenCam, presione
el botón de reinicio.
Cambio de cartuchos de tinta
Para cambiar los cartuchos, desenrosque la punta del bolígrafo como usted haría para cargar
o para cambiar entre los modos de video y cámara.
Desenrosque la parte superior del cartucho de tinta, utilizando un destornillador de estrella.
Reemplace con un cartucho nuevo y enrosque en la punta del bolígrafo.

Reiniciación del modelo PenCam
Si le PenCam ne réagit pas correctement, vous devez peut-être le réinitialiser. Pour le
réinitialiser, utilisez un cure-dent ou un objet pointu non métallique pour enfoncer le bouton
de réinitialisation situé à environ 2,5 cm en-dessous du voyant orange / bleu. Les objets
métalliques peuvent endommager le PenCam et leur utilisation doit être évitée. Ceci ne
réinitialise ni l’heure ni n’efface aucun fichier. Utilisez ceci si le PenCam ne répond pas.
