Les retrouvailles du
100e anniversaire du collège :
une fête mémorable!
Le 29 avril dernier, plus de 200 personnes se sont rassemblées au collège pour célébrer
le centième anniversaire de sa fondation. Cette rencontre a permis à plusieurs de revoir
d’anciens collègues, d’échanger de bons souvenirs et de renouer des liens.
Le moment fort de la soirée a été sans contredit la présentation de la vidéo illustrant
l’histoire du collège. Les invités présents ont tous reçu un exemplaire de l’album souvenir
du collège qui retrace son développement de 1916 à aujourd’hui.
The College’s 100thAnniversary Reunion:
A Memorable Celebration!
Last April 29th, over 200 people gathered at the college to celebrate the hundredth anniversary
of its foundation. This milestone celebration allowed many to reconnect with former classmates,
colleagues and dear friends to share good memories. The highlight of the evening was
undoubtedly the viewing of the video presentation depicting the history of the college. Each
guest received a copy of the souvenir album which traces the development of O’Sullivan
College from 1916 to today.

C’est avec grand plaisir que le collège O’Sullivan
a remis ce prix à Claudia Barrios et Andrea
Patricia Diaz Helmeyer lors de la soirée des
finissants en juin 2015.
Mesdames Barrios et Diaz Helmeyer ont pris l’initiative de créer le nouveau design
des cotons ouatés à l’effigie du collège, d’en faire la promotion et d’organiser les
commandes. C’est grâce à leur créativité que les étudiants et même les professeurs
affichent avec fierté leur appartenance au collège et à leur programme. Leur détermination pour la réalisation de ce projet témoigne de leur engagement à promouvoir et
à assurer le rayonnement du collège autant à l’interne qu’à l’externe.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Dans le cadre des célébrations du centenaire, la Fondation
du Collège O’Sullivan a offert dix bourses d’une valeur
de 500 $ chacune applicable aux frais de scolarité.

FRANCOFÊTE 2016 :
DOUBLE CÉLÉBRATION
Cette année se déroulait la 5e édition de la Francofête au
Collège O’Sullivan, alors même que ce dernier commémore
ses 100 ans. Pour cette occasion doublement spéciale,
plusieurs activités organisées pour célébrer le français et
la francophonie avaient comme thème le collège.
La Dictée de la directrice, la Chasse aux papillons et le
Concours de création ont permis à plusieurs élèves de
remporter l’un des cent prix offerts par le collège, par
l’Association des libraires du Québec ou par Druide, nos
commanditaires. Des logiciels Antidote, une variété de
dictionnaires, des romans et des chèques-cadeaux ont été
remis à nos gagnants.

A FOND FAREWELL
TO Mario
Morissette
After 33 years of dedication to the health, social
services and education sectors, as well as 10 years
as coordinator and instructor of the Medical Records
program at O’Sullivan College, Mario Morissette has
decided to pass on the torch to the next generation.
The Medical Records program held its first classes in 2005, and upon
Mario Morissette’s arrival at the College, he worked to achieve the
program’s national accreditation with the Canadian Health Information
Management Association (CHIMA) allowing graduates to work outside
of Quebec, across Canada, as well as internationally.
This winter semester, the English Language Spring Fair took place from
April 11 to 15. During the lunch-break periods of that week, language activities
such as Scattagories, Picture Dictionary and Grammar Trivia took place in
the main lobby of the college. The activities were a learning opportunity and a
pleasant diversion for all students who participated.

to help each other succeed,
encouraging and working together
to better their mastering of the
Language, as well as earning
their chance to win some of the
generous prizes. The event was
met with great student appreciation
and encouragement to continue
such activities in the future.
Mario attests that his years working at the College have passed much
too quickly. Always happy to meet the new day with his students and
colleagues, Mario looks back at his time spent at the College with pride,
appreciation and a great sense of accomplishment. He is thankful towards
his fellow teachers and all the College’s staff members for their positive
energy in creating such a wonderful and agreeable work environment.
Passionate about the archiving field, Mario Morissette was also a member
of the Board of Directors of l’Association des gestionnaires de l’information
de la santé du Québec (AGISQ) from 2007 to 2013. Known for his calm
and friendly demeanour, Mario appreciates work done well and meticulously; he takes to heart his students’ success.
Mario plans to spend his retirement in the beautiful countryside of the
Easthern Townships with his family, including his adored little Westie
dog, Ginger. Wishing to take up various projects, Mario will have more
time for swimming, taking scenic mountain walks, joining a choir, and
traveling, as well as following his professional activities, volunteering
and, of course, taking care of those he dearly loves.

PHOTOMATON UV
This year at the college, we had the pleasure of receiving the Canadian
Cancer Society – Quebec Division’s UV Photomaton on Wednesday,
March 23.
Students and staff were invited to meet with health professionals to
obtain valuable information on the theme of the day: The real price of
tanning is skin damage.
At the same time, all were encouraged to have their photo taken with
the CCS’s special camera, the UV Photomaton, which shows the real
and permanent skin damage caused by UV rays, even if not yet visible
to the naked eye.

SYLVIE Leclair – professeure et coordonnatrice en Techniques
juridiques de 1991 à 2005 – est professeure et coordonnatrice du
programme de Techniques juridiques du Collège de Valleyfield depuis 2009.
SUZIE Larochelle – English literature teacher from 1998 to 2003
who has since moved to Ontario since, is now the proud mother of 2 boys
and is the Office Manager of the family owned business.
LYNE Lavergne – professeure en Techniques juridiques de 1993 à
2005 – occupe maintenant un poste de juge administratif. Elle a été nommée en
2015, présidente de conseil de discipline au Bureau des présidents des conseils
de discipline des ordres professionnels. Elle entend des plaintes disciplinaires
contre les membres des 46 ordres professionnels et rend des décisions.
LOUISE Violette – professeure en Techniques juridiques – a quitté le
collège en 2003 pour exercer en pratique privée. Elle est de retour comme
enseignante au collège depuis 2012.
MAGALI Marc – professeure d’histoire de 1996 à 2008 – est l’auteure
du livre Les défis du XXe siècle, un cahier d’activités destiné aux élèves de
3e année du 2e cycle du secondaire, publié chez Lidec.
JOSEPH ARTHUR Bergeron – a enseigné la philosophie pendant
dix ans au collège, jusqu’en 1983 – il a été directeur d’une ONG internationale
au Honduras pendant 7 ans, puis a été commissaire à la Commission de
l’immigration et du statut de réfugié du Canada pendant 6 ans. Après quoi il
a été nommé juge au Tribunal administratif du Québec où il a siégé 18 ans.
ENNIO Vita-Finzi – professeur en Commerce international 2003 à
2014 – a publié un cinquième livre Life’s Q4: Short Stories of People Who
Overcame Life Challenges with Courage, Creativity and Humor.
« J'ai été très heureux de pouvoir travailler au Collège et de me retrouver
33 ans plus tard auprès d'anciens collègues à l'occasion de cette mémorable

We had the pleasure of welcoming Maria Nunes to our centennial reunion. Maria was our most appreciated
Calculus, Statistics and Finance teacher from 1987 to 2000.
We were not surprised to hear that she had received, for a second time, the McGill University Distinguished
Teaching Award!
In 1993, Maria Nunes was the first woman to be presented with the award; winning the same award again in 2013
marks another record of achievement for Maria, being one of only two professors to have been granted twice
such a prestigious award.

Denise remained with the law firm Me Finkelberg &
Associates since completing her stage right upon
graduation, and has maintained contact with the lawyer
ever since! Currently, Denise continues her 32 year
career with Fedex Canada, holding the position of
Senior Manager of Customer Service of Eastern Canada.
Après son stage de fin de programme, Jean-François
a été adjoint au producteur pendant trois ans pour
la compagnie qui l'avait accepté comme stagiaire.
Along with her various other pursuits, such as
volunteering in the Vancouver Paralympics of 2010
and being a member of the selection committee to
appoint the Team Ombudsperson for the 2010
Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Denise has also
served on the Board of Directors for Coaches of
Canada, a national organization that represents the
profession of coaching in Canada. In addition,
she is a Youth Leadership Facilitator for CAAWS,
dedicated to advancing women's leadership.
Last but not least, she is the founder of Pink in the
City, a non-profit organization committed to helping
the fight against breast cancer, which has to date
raised close to half a million in donations. Denise
is passionate about actively contributing to the
community and working to make a difference in the
world. We were also pleased to hear that Amanda
Carzoli 310 ’15, who attended our Alumni Reunion
on April 29th, is a long-time friend of Denise’s and
a member of the foundation’s organizing committee.

C’est grâce à son amie Lucie Berthelotte ’03 que
Kim trouve un emploi en 2004 chez Charles-Émile
Couture, arpenteur-géomètre. Il lui fait découvrir
ce domaine qu’elle ne connaît pas et pour lequel
elle développe une passion.
Depuis 2013, elle est administratrice et copropriétaire avec Jean-Philippe Grondin d’une firme
d’arpenteur-géomètre dans la région métropolitaine.
Cette jeune entreprise a déjà gagné la confiance des
notaires et des courtiers immobiliers!

C’est lorsqu’il est à l’emploi de Revenu Québec que
Nicolas prend goût à la fiscalité et décide de poursuivre ses études en comptabilité à l’université. Il
obtient son titre de comptable en management
accrédité (CMA) en 2006 et devient consultant en taxes
indirectes à son compte. Il se fait par la suite recruter
par PricewaterhouseCoopers où il travaille encore.
Nicolas est toujours en contact avec Jonathan
Daigle, Mathieu Joanisse et Laurent Gougeon
de sa promotion. Nous avons eu le plaisir de
revoir Jonathan et Nicolas à notre soirée des
retrouvailles. Jonathan a été analyste financier
pendant dix ans et travaille maintenant dans le
domaine de la construction.

Après ses études au collège O’Sullivan, Mathieu a
complété un baccalauréat en comptabilité à
l’UQAM en 2007. Il a ensuite travaillé pour une
papetière québécoise comme assistant-contrôleur
et contrôleur de production de 2007 à 2010 tout
en suivant le programme de leadership stratégique
pour devenir membre de l’Ordre des comptables
professionnels agrées.
En 2009, il devient membre CPA, CMA. Depuis
2010, il occupe le poste de conseiller aux immobilisations chez un distributeur gazier.

Depuis 2014, il a suivi des ateliers en jeu théâtral
et en jeu caméra avec Geneviève Rioux, entre autres,
et il exerce maintenant le métier de comédien. Il a
obtenu des premiers rôles dans deux web-séries, a
participé à des productions de l’Opéra de Montréal
et a été choriste pour des comédies musicales du
McGill Savoy Society. Il est maintenant membre de
l’UDA, de l’ACTRA et du CAEA.
En octobre, il tentera sa chance au Japon pour un an!
Il encourage tous les étudiants du programme en
Plateau à se dépasser, à mettre l’accent sur le travail
en équipe et à avoir confiance en l’avenir, car oui, les
rêves se réalisent!

ROB SIMMONS
Medical Records ’11
Rob has been working as a Data Manager in Cancer
Research for 5 years now at l’Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur
de Montréal.
He very much enjoys the challenges of his position,
such as coming to grips with new studies and
trials, along with learning about various types of
cancers and new experimental treatments available
to patients.
Being a Medical Records graduate has certainly
helped Rob explore the avenue of cancer research
as many of the skills learned, such as medical terminology and chart analysis, are put to good effect
every day. On a more personal front, Rob is happily
married and he has two children, which keep him
quite busy!
ALEKSIS VEILLEUX
Plateau ’14
Après un premier contrat comme assistant de
production sur un film de Disney, Aleksis a enchaîné
les emplois sur plusieurs autres productions dont
The Fixer, Rabid Dogs, Game On et Karl et Max,
une série offerte sur Club Illico. Ayant travaillé sur
plusieurs publicités entre temps, il souhaite orienter
sa carrière dans ce domaine où les contrats sont plus
variés et de courtes durées. Il vient de s’équiper
d’une belle Sony A7s! Bonne chance, Aleksis!

Another O’Sullivan Honors Paralegal, Rob was
admitted to the University of Ottawa with an
Academic Scholarship of 3000$.
Honors student at O’Sullivan and the recipient of
five awards at the University of Ottawa, Edmond
certainly has a bright future in front of him. For
achieving the highest overall average in the Civil Law
program, Edmond has received the Gold Medal,
Plaque de la Falculté de droit, as well as the Francine
Lefebvre Landry Prize; for his achievements earning
the best average in the Statutory Interpretation
Class, Edmond was additionally awarded the
Donald Scarth-Thorson Prize and the Remi Michael
Beaupré Prize.
We were thrilled to learn that Rob has continued the
tradition he began at O’Sullivan of organizing and
coaching a co-ed soccer team. He founded the Inter
Fauteux Soccer Club in his first year of university, thus
providing fellow law students with the opportunity to
play on a competitive soccer team in the Intramural
Soccer League throughout their three-year program.

Although recognizing in him traits from
members on both sides of the family, everyone agrees that happy little blue-eyed
Charles is almost identical to Dad at similar
age. First grandchild on both sides of the
family, he receives much love and attention;
there is always someone volunteering to
help – even to change a diaper! Antoinette
and Serge’s little golden doodle Ruby also
gets especially excited when Charles comes
to visit and gently “sniffs him out”!
