Kaspar von Stockalper war der Fugger der Alpen und genialste Frühkapitalist weit und breit. Er kaufte und
verkaufte alles, was nur irgendwie Profit versprach. Der Stockalperpalast in Brig zeugt von seinem Reichtum.
Kaspar von Stockalper war der Fugger der Alpen, der genialste Frühkapitalist weit und breit. Er handelte mit
allem. Mit Söldnern und Schnecken, mit Salz und Erzen. Er kaufte und verkaufte, was auch immer Profit
versprach. Und er notierte in sieben Sprachen alles in seinen Büchern. Auch wann und wie er seine Partner
bestach oder betrog. Kein Privater der Schweiz konnte sich im 17. Jahrhundert einen grösseren Palast bauen
lassen. Der Neid – so sagt man – ist der älteste Walliser und so vertrieben die Walliser notabene den reichen
und mächtigen Grossen Stockalper 1679 nach Domodossola ins Exil. Sein Vermögen wurde aufgeteilt. Seine
Geschäfte wanderten in andere Regionen ab. Verarmt und verbittert durfte er wieder nach Brig zurückkehren
und in seinem Schloss sterben.

The Stockalper palace
Kaspar Stockalper was an early capitalist genius. He simply bought and sold everything that promised to be
profitable on those days. He wrote everything in his books, in seven different languages. He wrote even about
how he betrayed his partner. In the 17th century nobody was rich enough to have so a big palace. People were
jealous and exiled him to Domodossola. He became poor and weak and came back in his palace to die.
His impressive palace in Brig is a testimony to his wealth and worldly power. The building is the biggest private
building of the 17th century in Switzerland.
Visit this representative castle and learn about the symbolism and the history of that place. The adjoining
gardens are worth a visit too.

Le château de Stockalper
Kaspar von Stockalper était un marchand des Alpes, un homme brillant et capitaliste. Il achetait et revendait
tout ce qui pouvait lui faire gagner de l’argent. Ce château témoigne de sa richesse.
Il marchandait tout le temps. Il achetait et revendait tout ce dont il pouvait tirer profit et inscrivait tout dans
ses livres, en sept langues. Il raconte même comment il a corrompu et trompé son partenaire. Au 17eme
siècle, aucun citoyen Suisse ne pouvait se faire construire un tel château. On dit que c’est l’envie et la jalousie
qui poussèrent les valaisans à envoyer Stockalper en exil à Domodossola. Son capital fut alors divisé.
Appauvri et fortement affaibli on lui laissa rentrer à Brig pour mourir dans son château.

Il palazzo Stockalper a Briga è testimone della sua ricchezza.
Kaspar von Stockalper fu il capitalista delle Alpi, un geniale e antesignano capitalista. Commerciava di tutto:
mercenari e lumache, sale e minerali. Comprò e vendette tutto quello da cui poteva trarre profitto. Ha
annotato tutto nei suoi libri, in sette lingue, anche come e quando ha corrotto o imbrogliato il suo partner.
Nel 17. Secolo, nessun cittadino svizzero potè farsi costruire un palazzo così grande. Si dice che l’Invidia sia
l’abitante vallesana più anziana e così il Vallese cacciò, nel 1679, il ricco e potente Grande Stockalper a
Domodossola in esilio. Il suo capitale fu diviso. Le sue imprese migrarono in altre regioni.
Impoverito e amareggiato gli fu permesso di tornare a Brig e morire nel suo castello.
