Our primary activity is to contribute to the programming of development economics sessions at the annual Canadian Economics Association(CEA)meetings.Beginningin2008 theCDESGhasoperatedwithagenerousgrant from the International Development Research Centre(IDRC).ThisgranthasallowedCDESGto organizepolicypanelsandworkshops,sponsor developing country scholars to present their work, and generally build the community of economicdevelopmentscholarsinCanadaand abroad. BIOGRAPHYOFPROFESSORDEANKARLAN KEYNOTESPEAKER Dean Karlan is Professor of Economics at Yale University. His primary research fields include development economics, behavioral economics, political economy,andfieldexperiments.ProfessorKarlan’smost recent work covers developing countries and examines waystoimprovefinancialinclusionforthepoor.Healso conducts empirical research on charitable fundraising, voting, education, and behavioral economics. Professor KarlanholdsaPhDineconomicsfromtheMassachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T).
