Students collaborate to make a personalized version of the story. My Hero’s First Halloween After being introduced to the story Mouse’s First Halloween, students pair up to reuse elements from different sources in order to create a Halloween story, using an explicit model. A Wacky Experience Students collaborate to create a personalized version of the popular Scottish folk song “Aikendrum.” Can’t Fall Asleep Students create their own version of the story Mortimer, and explore the conditions for a good night’s sleep. You Are What You Eat! Students create their own version of the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar to show their ability to choose food for a balanced diet. My First English Class in Elementary 3 Students experience their first English class in Elementary 3 through interactive activities and strategies that lead them to the closure activity “Let’s Play Teacher.” How Do I Plan a Trip? Students develop strategies, consult various sources, find pertinent information and make choices in order to plan a trip. They share the information gathered with their peers, then discuss how they can use the strategies they have learned to fulfill their immediate needs. Cycle Two Cycles Two and Three Cycle Three, Elementary 5 Writing a Minibook Students become familiar with the story Green Eggs and Ham and use it as a model to write their own version with a teammate. What Are the Secrets to Success? This C1-C2-C3 LES is about the concept of success. There is one version for Cycle Two and one for Cycle Three. For Cycle Two, the final task calls for students to prepare a riddle about their success story. Cycle Three students interview a classmate and write his or her success story. Are Cats Really Like That? In the final task, students write comments that describe their experience as campers at EMC. How Can We Shrink That Footprint? This C1-C2-C3 examination is about our eco footprint. In the reinvestment task, students write the draft of a magazine article in response to the question “How can we shrink that footprint?” The optional writing task calls for students to create a bumper sticker. Students are introduced to the story Aaaarrgghh Spider, which helps them become aware of some characteristics of a family and of animals that are not usually considered as pets. Good or Bad, That Bad, Bad Animal? Students are introduced to the story That Bad, Bad Cat, which helps them become aware that although naughty behaviours are not appreciated, a naughty animal, or by extension a naughty person, will still be loved by the family.
