What Would You
Bring to a Picnic?
After being exposed to the story Dora’s Picnic, students
express their likes and dislikes concerning food items and
activities at the park, and they express their opinions on
food that is good for the body and food that is not. Students
collaborate to make a personalized version of the story.
My Hero’s First
Halloween
After being introduced to the story Mouse’s First
Halloween, students pair up to reuse elements from
different sources in order to create a Halloween story,
using an explicit model.
A Wacky Experience
Students collaborate to create a personalized version
of the popular Scottish folk song “Aikendrum.”
Can’t Fall Asleep
Students create their own version of the story Mortimer,
and explore the conditions for a good night’s sleep.
You Are What You
Eat!
Students create their own version of the story The Very
Hungry Caterpillar to show their ability to choose food for
a balanced diet.
My First English Class
in Elementary 3
Students experience their first English class in
Elementary 3 through interactive activities and strategies
that lead them to the closure activity “Let’s Play Teacher.”
How Do I Plan a Trip?
Students develop strategies, consult various sources, find
pertinent information and make choices in order to plan a
trip. They share the information gathered with their peers,
then discuss how they can use the strategies they have
learned to fulfill their immediate needs.

Cycle Three. For Cycle Two, the final task calls for
students to prepare a riddle about their success story.

write his or her success story.

What’s This All About?
Students discover strategies that ensure success in an
all-English class.
If You’re Happy
Students rely on previous learning to further explore the
song “If You’re Happy.” They take risks by speaking English
only and play a game with a partner, in which they reuse
the key elements of the song.
Is Sally a Camel?
Students continue discovering authentic English songs. They
rely on their previous knowledge to take on other challenges.
What Happens
if I Roll Over?
Students show understanding of the key elements of the
song “Roll Over” by contributing to its performance with
their classmates.
Let’s Go for a Ride
Students continue discovering authentic English songs.
What Are These
Animals?
Students become familiar with a song about farm animals.
They learn their names and the sounds they make.
What Is My Special Pet?
Students are introduced to the story Aaaarrgghh Spider,
which helps them become aware of some characteristics
of a family and of animals that are not
usually considered as pets.
Good or Bad, That Bad,
Bad Animal?
Students are introduced to the story That Bad, Bad Cat,
which helps them become aware that although naughty
behaviours are not appreciated, a naughty animal, or by
extension a naughty person, will still be loved by the family.
