«J’ai été saisie par l’association
Tjenbé Rèd, Association afrocaribéenne de lutte
contre l’homophobie, le racisme
et le sida, au sujet du concert
au cours duquel le chanteur
Sizzla doit se produire ce jeudi
23 septembre 2010
à Festi Plaisir, à Montpellier.
“I was contacted by Tjenbé Rèd,
the Afro-Caribbean association
for the struggle against all forms
of racism, homophobia and Aids,
in relation to the concert in
which Sizzla is due to appear this
Thursday, 23 September,
at Festi Plaisir, in Montpellier.
Comme je l’avais dit en 2008 lors
d’un précèdent spectacle programmé
puis finalement annulé, je regrette la tenue
de ce concert sur le territoire
de ma commune en raison
de la teneur violente et discriminatoire,
notamment à caractère homophobe,
de certaines chansons de Sizzla.
Le respect de la différence, la tolérance,
le vivre ensemble sont des valeurs
que je promeus au quotidien.
Aussi je mets solennellement
en garde les organisateurs de ce concert :
en programmant délibérément et
en connaissance de cause cet artiste,
ils doivent mesurer la gravité de ce choix
et en assumer le cas échéant la responsabilité.
Je demande également au Préfet de l’Hérault
de diligenter les mesures de police nécessaires
afin préserver l’ordre public et d’éviter
tout débordement en lien avec ce concert.»
As I said in 2008, at the time of a
previous show, scheduled but
eventually cancelled, I regret the holding of this
concert on my commune’s territory. This is in
view of the violent and discriminatory tenor,
notably of a homophobic character, of certain
of Sizzla’s songs.
Respecting differences, toleration, living
together are the values I promote on a daily
basis. In addition, I give the organisers of the
concert this formal advice. By deliberately and
knowingly scheduling this performer, they
ought to consider the seriousness of this choice
and take the appropriate responsibility
for whatever ensues.
At the same time, I am asking the Prefect of
l’Hérault to ensure appropriate police
measures are taken, so that public order is
maintained and any disturbance connected to
this concert is avoided.”
