1 All fees and costs reflect a regular academic year of two semesters (8 months) or 30 credits except graduate
student data which remain unadjusted due to the different nature of graduate studies (a research component,
varying program duration (8-12 months), more costly executive MBA programs, etc.). (This footnote pertains to
all tables 1 to 7).
NEWFOUNDLAND:
2 Memorial University of Newfoundland: The Graduate fees quoted on the questionnaire are for a 12 months
period and include Masters and Doctor of Philosophy programs. Masters program in Oil and Gas available in
2008-09 are no longer offered in 2009-10.Compulsory fees quoted are different for St John's and Sir Wilfred
Grenfell College campuses.
PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND:
3 University of Prince Edward Island: Students pay lab fees of $15 per course/per semester. Students in 1st year
Nursing also pay $75. Nursing students pay $5 and $10 per year to Canadian Nursing Association and
University of PEI Nursing Association respectively. Doctor of veterinary medicine program fees are excluded
(Full year – 12 months). Foreign students pay an extra $509 of compulsory fees for Health and Dental
coverage. The "Others" category in additional compulsory fees includes: $40 - Student Centre fund, $30
Technology fee, $6 WUSC, $3 Canadian Alliance of Student Association, $50 Transit Pass
NOVA SCOTIA:
4 The provincial government of Nova-Scotia developed and implemented, in march 2008, the Nova Scotia
University Student Bursary Trust. This trust fund pays institutions directly. The institutions then apply this
payment to the reduction of their student’s tuition invoices. This decreases tuition fees by $1022, for 2009-2010
academic year and it is applied to the tuition fees of students from Nova Scotia who study in one of the 11
5 Acadia University: Graduate Education Program charges a per course charge of $844. Additional Compulsory
fees include in "Other category: Technical fees $568, Access fees $10, Dental Plan $120.50
6 Atlantic School of Theology: The "Others" category in additional compulsory fees includes a fee for Dental $78
and Bus Pass $115.
7 Dalhousie University: Tuition fees for Dentistry do not include mandatory auxiliary & instrument fees: Year 1=
10,600; year 2= 9,100; year 3= 6,777; year 4= 6,543 for both Canadian & Foreign dentistry students. Foreign
trainee dentists in a qualifying programme will pay the following Auxiliary Fees: year 1= 13,950; year 2 = 7,950;
Tuition Year 1= 35,000; year 2= 40,000. Nursing course load & fees vary depending on year of study Canadian
year 1 = $8,264 includes summer clinical fee $1244- year 2 = $7,562; year 3 = 7,562 year 4 = $6,860. The
category "Others" in Additional Compulsory fees includes:1 - Student Service fee = athletics, health service &
admin. 2 - DSU Health Insurance Policy, 3 - Bus Pass = $118/yr; facilities renewal =$ 45/term, 4 - Commerce
Co-op fee $427/term, 5 - Dentistry clinic/text and instrument fees. Foreign students pay an additional
International Health policy $636/yr. and International Society $5/term. 1= Student Service fee = athletics, health
service & administration; 2 =DSU Health Insurance Policy; 3= Bus Pass = $118/yr , faculties $45/term; 4= First
year only - tool kit fee
8 Mount Saint Vincent University: The lower tuition for Canadian Students relates to Nova Scotia Students who
receive an additional $204.40 bursary credit for tuition reduction (tables 1&2). - Certain specific courses also
have a lab component fee of $50.00 per unit of credit (not included above) (Tables 5&6). Psychology courses at
the Graduate level include an additional $100 per credit fee (not included in this questionnaire). Additional
Compulsory fees. "Other" category includes technology fee of $50. Yearbook fee of $9.00, U" Pass fee of
$118.00, registration fee of $4.50 and capital campaign fee of $30. There is also a student orientation fee for new
full-time students of $35
9 St Francis Xavier University: Additional Compulsory fees: Students can opt of Health Plan - Health Plan for
International students fee is $826.97 - Other category includes Technology Fee- $360
10 Saint Mary’s University: The undergraduate lower tuition rates for Canadian Students apply to NS students who
receive $102.20 per half credit or $1,022 for 5 courses. The graduate lower Canadian tuition rates reflect the NS

16 Université de Moncton: There is a group insurance fee of $277 for Canadian students (Moncton and Shippagan
campuses). Health insurance fee of $797 and a dental plan fee of $62 are asked of international students
(Moncton and Shippagan campuses). A fee of $75 is asked of all students registered full-time, except those in
Engineering programs (undergraduate) and information technology (IT) programs. An additional fee of $300 is
asked of students registered in September 2008 for the first full year of an Engineering program (new admission
at Université de Moncton). The students must buy a laptop computer from the list of models authorized by the
engineering faculty. An additional fee of $1,300 for students registered full-time at Université de Moncton before
April 2008 who have a laptop for which a contract is ending in September 2010.
