It is expected that the United States Air
Force will be exhibiting a C-130E and a C-140,
and the US Navy a P-3, and in addition
that an F-104G, manufactured in Europe, will
also be present. In any case, the indoor exhibit
is based on the F-104 and includes models of
the aircraft in its various mission configurations.
The F-104G (General Electric J79) is
stronger than its predecessors, has different
equipment, larger tail surfaces, a fully powered
rudder and special manoeuvring flaps. European production of this modern and versatile
aircraft was extensively described in the issue
of this journal dated March 14, 1963. The
article stated: "The international F-104G
production programme, the biggest ever undertaken, is nearing its peak and employing some
60,000 people in scores of factories in Germany, Belgium, Holland and Italy banded into
a great European production consortium under
the general direction of the NATO Starfighter
Management Organization (NASMO) at
Koblenz. Lockheed at Palmdale produced the
initial aircraft, and early testing of the airframe
and its complex equipment was carried out in
the USA."
The C-130E is a recent development of the
Lockheed Hercules C-130 transport with a
gross weight of 20,0001b more than the C-130B.
Fuel capacity has been increased to 9,680 US
gallons and the Alhson-GM T56 turboprops
deliver a total of 16,200 h.p.
The C-140 Jetstar will be used by the Airways and Air Communications Service (Military Air Transport Service) as a high-speed
electronics test aircraft,
The P-3 Orion is the ASW version of the
Electra airliner, with more powerful (4,585
