x Pour une rangée de points de croix, faites un aller-retour de demi-points. Allez en
diagonale de la gauche vers la droite, puis revenez de la droite vers la gauche pour
croiser vos points.
y Procédez de la même manière pour la rangée suivante : La règle d’or du point de
croix est de toujours croiser les fils dans le même sens pour donner un aspect régulier
à l’ouvrage. Brodez tous les points d’une même zone de couleur avant de changer de
couleur.
z Envers de la toile : pour changer de couleur, ou finir la broderie, faites glisser votre
aiguille sous les derniers points de croix réalisés, sans faire de noud. Coupez les fils
qui dépassent.
{ Envers de la toile. Changez de couleur : coincez votre nouveau fil en faisant glisser
l’aiguille sous les points de la couleur précédente. Continuez à broder en faisant vos
allers-retours de demi-points.
Les astuces de DMC pour bien broder au point de croix

Pour réussir votre broderie, c’est simple, laissez-vous guider…
u Repérez le centre de votre toile. C’est ici que vous allez commencer à broder. Sur
le diagramme ce point est indiqué par des flèches. Tout au long de la broderie, le diagramme sera votre guide. Chaque carré du diagramme (marqué par un symbole ou
une couleur) correspond à un point de croix à broder sur votre toile.
v Prélevez 2 brins de votre fil Mouliné DMC. Il est formé de 6 brins. On utilise 2 ou 3
brins selon le type de toile.
w Pour faire un point de croix : si vous brodez pour la première fois, faites un noud au
bout du fil. Faites ensuite sortir l’aiguille par le trou (1) et passez-là en diagonale vers
le haut à droite (2). Ressortez l’aiguille par le trou situé juste en dessous (3), puis
refaites une diagonale vers le haut à gauche (4).

x For a row of cross-stitches, work forwards and backwards in half stitches.
Proceed diagonally from left to right, and then return from right to left to cross your
stitches.
y Proceed in the same way for the next row. The golden rule for cross-stitches:
always cross the threads in the same direction to produce an even finish. Finish all
the stitches in the same colour area before moving to another colour.
z Back of the fabric: to change colour or finish the project, slip your needle under the
last few cross-stitches without making a knot. Cut off the protruding thread.
{ Back of the fabric. When changing colour, fasten your new thread by slipping the
needle under the last few stitches in the preceding colour. Continue by making half
stitches in both directions as explained above.

u Find the centre of your fabric. This is where you will start to stitch. Arrows on the
chart indicate this point. The chart will serve as your guide as you stitch. Each square
on the chart (marked by a symbol or a colour) corresponds to a cross-stitch on your
fabric.
v Take 2 strands of DMC Stranded Cotton thread. The thread is made up of 6
strands. Usually, 2 or 3 strands are used depending on the type of fabric to be stitched.
w To begin cross-stitching: if this is your first time, make a knot at one end of the
thread. Then pull the needle out of the hole (1) and move diagonally towards the top
right (2). Pull the needle out again through the hole just below (3) and then make
another diagonal towards the top left (4).
Congratulations, you have just completed your first cross-stitch!

Une fois familiarisée avec le point de croix, essayez cette technique : avant de commencer, faites un noud au bout de votre fil, puis piquez à environ 5 croix à droite de
votre point de départ, dans le haut du point. Brodez votre première rangée, au bout de
4 points coupez votre noud. Le fil sera automatiquement bloqué sur l’envers de la toile.

Une astuce pour bloquer le fil au démarrage : la
" technique du noud perdu "
| Le point de piqûre : pour certains motifs, vous terminerez votre broderie par un
point de piqûre, symbolisé par un trait continu sur le diagramme. Il se brode avec 1
seul brin. Sortez l’aiguille (1), et piquez en arrière (2). Ressortez l’aiguille en avant (3)
et repiquez encore en arrière (4). Ressortez en avant (5) et repiquez en arrière, etc…

| Backstitch: for certain motifs, you will finish with backstitches, symbolised by a
continuous line on the chart. Use one single strand. Bring out the needle (1) and insert
it backwards (2). Pull the needle out again forwards (3) and insert it again backwards
(4). Bring it out again forwards (5) and insert again backwards, and so on.
A good method of fastening the thread when starting is “the lost knot technique”. Once
you have become familiar with cross-stitching, try this technique: make a knot at the
end of your thread, then insert your needle about 5 crosses to the right of your starting
point, at the top. Make your first row and after completing 4 stitches, cut the knot. The
thread will be automatically fastened at the back of the fabric.
