"Nature Morte" est un extrait du spectacle "MAS-SACRE" créé en février 2014 au Théâtre les
Tanneurs à Bruxelles, sur la musique du Sacre du printemps de Stravinsky. !

Le spectacle a pour thématique principale l’industrie de la viande, ainsi que différents aspects du
rapport homme-animal. !
Dû au caractère unique de cette scène baptisée « Nature Morte », j’avais déjà envisagé d’en faire
une proposition à part entière, mais vu la courte durée, je ne trouvais pas vraiment de contexte
dans lequel la proposer. Ce pourquoi le contexte de « Danse Elargie » me semble adéquat pour
une telle proposition.!
Même si la scène en question fait partie d’un spectacle, je souhaiterais la retravailler pour
l’occasion, en développant davantage la première partie, peut être faisant un autre choix musical
aussi…!

Concernant le contenu, nous sommes partis de l’idée d’une nature morte, recréée sur scène à
l’aide d’une table, d’un couteau et d’animaux morts (un poule entière, une tête de chèvre…),
reprojetés en temps réel sur une écran en fond de scène. Les animaux sont manipulés par deux
personnes, tandis que le troisième filme l’action en temps réel. Sur une autre table, plus proche du
public, se trouve une danseuse nue.!
Première partie :!
Tout d’abord l’action se centre sur la poule et la tête de chèvre qui forment la nature morte sur
l’écran. En partant d’un zoom sur leur chair, le spectateur ne distingue pas de tout de suite de quoi
il s’agit mais reconnaît la texture et les couleurs si particulières de la viande. En dézoomant, il
découvre ensuite le « tableau » dans son entièreté. Commence ensuite la manipulation des
animaux, entre rituel et expérimentation en laboratoire, ils s’animent doucement et
progressivement créent un petit ballet macabre et monstrueux.!
Deuxième partie :!
L’action se concentre ensuite sur un jeu de mimétisme entre la danseuse et le poulet manipulé. Il
faut préciser qu’il s’agit d’un poulet entier, avec tête et pattes, ce qui le rapproche de l’anatomie de
la danseuse. Le fait qu’il soit projeté en grand écran, magnifie les détails de la chair de l’animal,
son anatomie, ses expressions…La ressemblance évidente entre les deux corps crée un étrange
et étonnant jeu de miroir entre humain et animal, posant ainsi un autre regard sur un animal que
nous avons pris l’habitude de voir en morceaux, sous emballage cellophane dans un supermarché.!

« Still-Life » is extract from a piece called « MAS-SACRE », created in February 2104 in Brussels,
on the music of Rite of Spring, by Stravinsky.!
The main theme of the piece is the meat industry and different aspects of the animal-human
relationship. Due tu its unique character within the piece, I had already wished to present this
scene as a piece by itself, but did not find any context in which to propose this, due to the short
duration. Therefore, I think the frame of « Danse Elargie » could be interesting for such a proposal.!
For the occasion, I would probably rework slightly the scene.!

Concerning the content, the piece goes from the idea of a « Still-Life », reproducing one on stage
with real dead animals and a table, reprojected in large scale on a screen. Two men are
manipulating the animals, while a third one is filming live. A woman is lying on another table,
naked.!

First part :!
First the action is centered around the animals which compose the still-life on the screen. The first
image is a zoom into their flesh, so the spectator doesn’t distinguish what that is, they can only
distinguish the particular texture of meat. By dezooming, the spectator sees the whole picture, the
still-life. Starts then the manipulation of the animals by the performers, between a laboratory
session and a macabre ritual, they create a strange little ballet with the animals.!

Second part :!
The action focuses then on the link between the dancer who is lying on another table, and the
manipulated chicken. Because the chicken is projected in large scale, the details of the anatomy of
the animal are magnified. Through the ressemblance of the two bodies, a fascinating mirror dance
takes place between the dancer and the chicken, between human and animal, giving a new point
of view on an animal we are more used to see cut in pieces in a cellophane package at the
supermarket…
