*"FEPPRA -* *F*édération des *E*diteurs et *P*roducteurs *P*honographiques *R*hône-*A*lpes (Rhône-Alpes Region Federation of Phonographic Publishers and Producers) - is dedicated to the promotion, structuring, development and networking of the phonographic sector in the Rhône-Alpes region. Five years after the launching of national online selling platform cd1d.com <http://cd1d.com/>, independent producers have chosen to develop this innovative distribution method, based on social and solidarity-oriented trade. Today, the fundamental goal of these professionals is to promote their musical heritage on a region-wide scale by creating regional platforms (1d-paca.com <http://1d-paca.com/>, 1d-aquitaine.com <http://1d-aquitaine.com/>, rhonealpes.com <http://1d-rhonealpes.com/>) likely to make up for the market’s malfunctions." But it also has a complex music business infrastructure that is difficult to understand and ongoing problems such as royalty payments and piracy. The Chinese government realizes that a vibrant and safe modern domestic music business, especially one that provides protection and profitability to international products, is essential for contemporary Chinese music to grow and flourish. The need for market reforms that creates a new competitive market, one that ensures that domestic artistic talent as well as international artists receive full and fair payments, is widely acknowledged. The Chinese government knows that the creation of reliable revenue streams will justify the investment in new artists and new music, and contribute to the growth of China’s music business. Action taken by the Chinese government recently is testament to its commitment to transforming the domestic music market. The government has: • • Closed down nearly 1,000 illegal web sites • Launched a national music industry park project that will provide complete music functions and business services to domestic and international artists and businesses. Although, paradoxically, in a country where every child knows Żelazowa Wola, the First Program of Polish Radio is originally identified by the sounds of Polonaise in A Major, and the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition is the source of great excitement among the society every five years, Fryderyk Chopin as a person does not seem to require much publicity and popularization. Nevertheless, we do realize that the year 2010 is a unique opportunity to create new values related to the composer. The aim is, therefore, to bring about the conditions for common participation in the celebration of Chopin's music in the world continuously lacking the space for culture and aesthetical reflection. Bearing that in mind, the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, acting on behalf of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, shall open the new Fryderyk Chopin Museum, the new Concert Hall and tourist center in Żelazowa Wola, as well as the Chopin Centre in Warsaw in the year 2010. Music lovers are invited to participate in the yearlong program of concerts, festivals, competitions and exhibitions. We proudly co-finance hundreds of artistic events in the whole country. It is a great pleasure to announce, here in Cannes, at the MIDEM trade fair in 2010, the launch of our activity abroad. We are honored to be invited to take part in the Midem Classical Award competition, during which two Awards funded by the Institute in the field of Chopin's music industry will be presented: The Best Ever and The Best of 2009. In both categories, the winners were selected from ten nominees designated by the Institute. I am convinced that the Fryderyk Chopin statuette, based on the original, very modern, although 100-year-old sculpture by Bolesław Biegas, will be the symbol of extraordinary performances, full of passion, artistry and emotional experience. I believe that the Midem Classical Awards Ceremony organized in association with Reed MIDEM, which is is supported by the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs - Mr. Radosław Sikorski, Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage - Mr. Bogdan Zdrojewski, Polish Ambassador to France - Mr. Tomasz Orłowski will be the source of unique experience allowing you to rediscover the everlasting greatness of Chopin’s music. Let’s spend this year together - with Chopin.
