Extended Bio: Born to bilingual parents from Saskatchewan, Ariane Mahrÿke Lemire started writing at an early age. With the help of her father, classical guitarist Lyall Steel, she eventually put her words to music and subsequently started writing songs on a regular basis. She has played on stages and in festivals across western Canada, Québec, France and Ireland. In 2007 after receiving a Rawlco Magic 99 recording grant, she recorded her first album, Double Entendre, with co-­‐producer and bassist Mike Lent. The album, which won a Western Canadian Music Award, includes both a French disc and an English disc of original songs. In 2010 she released a follow up album, Décousue, which was also nominated for a WCMA. The music video for “Je suis le genre” took home the 2012 Calgary Folk Festival Eye Candy award as well as the 2012 WCMA in the Music Video category. Her third album, Wrecked Tangles and Love Knots, a collection of lyric based songs with more of a folk feel than her previous albums, was released in October of 2012 and has charted on !Earshot’s national Folk/Routes/Blues Top 10. Whether accompanied by multi-­‐instrumentalist Cam Boyce, as a duo with her drummer, doing a solo performance, or backed by a full band, she manages to entertain crowds with theatrical deliveries of her story-­‐like songs, which blend folk, jazz, and blues. Through her participation in remarkable experiences like the Festival en chanson de Petite Vallée in Gaspésie, the Coup de coeur francophone in Montreal, the Rencontres d’Astaffort in France and the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, she has become a seasoned musician. Her first album, Double Entendre, was crowned Outstanding Francophone Recording at the 2008 WCMAs, her second was nominated in the same category in 2010, and her third album, Wrecked Tangles and Love Knots, was released in the fall of 2012. Since then, she has taught workshops in schools, and she has played on stages and in festivals across western Canada, Québec, France and Ireland. Elle détient un diplôme en théâtre physique ainsi qu’en arts médiatiques et numériques, et elle donne des ateliers de théâtre et de création depuis plus de 10 ans.
