Ce qui frappe chez le collectif JazzLab, c’est l’envie et la vivacité à mettre sur pied une perspective musicale particulière dans l’univers du jazz. Depuis l’automne 2002 lors du premier concert et jusqu’à aujourd’hui,
le JazzLab ne cesse de proposer des projets intenses. Il y a toujours ce goût de combiner les approches, les
mélanges de styles constamment mis de l’avant dans le développement du jazz moderne d’aujourd’hui. JazzLab cherche à développer son identité et un son qui lui est propre dans un désir de raconter une histoire musicale à travers des pièces composites, des climats d’improvisations et des aventures sonores.

Il est considéré comme un des meilleurs altistes au
Canada. Il s’est produit aux côtés d’artistes réputés tels:
Lorraine Desmarais, Vic Vogel, Michel Donato,
Oliver Jones, Kenny Werner, Marc Johnson, Seamus
Blake, Ben Monder, etc. Il a plusieurs CD à son actif dont
«Renaissance» (Effendi) et «Tchat » (Justin Time).
Rémi enseigne à l’Université McGill à Montréal.
Considered one of the best alto saxmen in Canada, Rémi has
shared the stage with such artists as Lorraine Desmarais, Vic Vogel, Michel Donato, Oliver Jones, Kenny Werner, Marc Johnson,
Seamus Blake, and many others. He has recorded several CDs,
including Renaissance (Effendi) and Tchat (Justin Time). Rémi
teaches at McGill University in Montréal.

FACT, il évolue sur disque et sur scène avec des artistes bien établis

This founding member of the FACT collective of musicians and composers can be heard regularly on CDs and on stage, performing alongside
established artists such as Auguste quintette, Avalon, René Lussier,
Jean Derome, Yves Léveillé, Thom Gossage and many others. As a
member of Eduardo Pipman’s quartet, he won the Montreal International Jazz Festival’s Concours de Jazz in 2001. Frank teaches at McGill
University in Montreal.
This multi-instrumentalist, arranger and music director can often be heard
as a sideman in Montreal’s best concerts. His original, modern sound
is featured on various projects by the No Name Jazz Sextet. In 2001,
Alexandre received a scholarship allowing him to perfect his technique
under the tutelage of internationally renowned American saxophonist
Chris Potter. In 2002, he participated in the Banff International Jazz
Workshop directed by Kenny Werner.
Aron Doyle s’est bien installé sur la scène jazz montréalaise
après ses études à l’Université McGill. Depuis, il a tissé des
liens musicaux avec de petits comme de grands ensembles
montréalais tels: FACT, Michel Côté Lapon Balèze, No
Name Jazz Sextet, Vic Vogel Big Band, le Montréal Jazz Big
Band, Denny Christianson BB, Joe Sullivan BB, Dave
Turner. Il a joué avec des artistes tels que Maria Schneider,
Kenny Wheeler, Hugh Fraser et Ray Anderson.
ISAIAH CECCARELLI
Fresh from his studies at McGill University, Aron Doyle quickly
became a regular presence on the Montreal jazz scene. He has
since formed strong musical links with large and small Montreal
ensembles such as FACT, Michel Côté’s Lapon Balèze, the No
Name Jazz Sextet, the Vic Vogel Big Band, the Montreal Jazz
Big Band, the Denny Christianson BB, the Joe Sullivan BB, and
Dave Turner’s band. A founding member of the FACT collective, Aron has also performed alongside such artists as Maria
Schneider, Kenny Wheeler, Hugh Fraser and Ray Anderson.
U.S. native Isaiah Ceccarelli spent several years in Europe before
settling down in Montréal. He has since participated in many large-scale
projects along with Jean Derome and Frank Lozano, and today can be
heard regularly as a drummer with a variety of different groups. Isaiah
is also an excellent composer and arranger. He joined Jazzlab for the
group’s Summer 2004 pan-Canadian tour.
ALAIN BÉDARD
Alain Bédard began his musical career in the eighties. He has since worked with a
variety of groups and bandleaders including Ogane Song, Dadjé, B.C.J.S Quartet,
Ivan Simons, Gilles Bernard Repertory Orchestra, Michel Lambert, Greg Clayton,
Frank Souriant, Carole Therrien Quartet, Thuryn Von Pranke Trio, and Michel Côté
Lapon Balèze. President and founder of the jazz label Effendi, Alain Bédard has
produced more than 45 of the CDs found in the label’s catalogue.
Multi-instrumentiste, arrangeur et directeur musical, on l’entend
souvent comme accompagnateur. On retrouve sa musique originale et
impeccable sur le premier projet de disque du No Name Jazz Sextet. En
2001, il reçoit une bourse et perfectionne son jeu auprès du saxophoniste
américain de réputation internationale Chris Potter. Il a aussi participé en
2002 au Banff International Jazz Workshop dirigé par Kenny Werner.
ARON DOYLE
Isaiah Ceccarelli est natif des États-Unis. Après quelques années
passées en Europe, il déménage à Montréal. Depuis, il a participé
à plusieurs projets d’envergure, en compagnie de Jean Derome et
Frank Lozano. Présentement, il est batteur de plusieurs groupes. Il
a rejoint le JazzLab lors de sa tournée pancanadienne à l’été 2004.
Il est aussi un excellent compositeur et arrangeur.
Contrebassiste autodidacte, Alain Bédard débute sa carrière musicale au début
des années quatre-vingt. Il a travaillé avec différentes formations dont les groupes:
Ogane Song, Dadjé, B.C.J.S Quartet, Yvans Symons Group, Gilles Bernard Repertory Orchestra, Michel Lambert, Greg Clayton, Frank Souriant, Carole Therrien
Quartet, le Trio Thu-ryn Von Pranke et enfin, Michel Côté Lapon Balèze.
Président et fondateur d’Effendi Records, Alain Bédard a réalisé plus de 45 CD de
catalogue du Label.

Originaire de Toronto, John Roney vit maintenant Montréal où il enseigne et se produit en
concert. Il a obtenu un Bac à l’Université de Toronto en piano jazz, piano classique et composition. Il est membre du Rémi Bolduc Quartet, Chet Doxas Quartet, Bernard Primeau Montreal
Jazz Ensemble et joue régulièrement avec Ranee Lee, Michel Donato, Dawn Tyler Watson à
la Maison de Jazz (Biddles), Dave Turner, Michelle Sweeny et Johnny Scott. Il a enregistré 2
albums avec son propre trio. John a participé au concours de piano jazz Martial Solal.
Originally from Toronto, John Roney now lives in Montreal where he teaches and performs in
concert. He received a Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto in jazz piano, classical
piano and composition. A member of the Rémi Bolduc Quartet, the Chet Doxas Quartet and
the Bernard Primeau Montreal Jazz Ensemble, he also plays regularly with Ranee Lee, Michel
Donato, Dawn Tyler Watson at the House of Jazz (Biddles), Dave Turner, Michelle Sweeny and
Johnny Scott. He has recorded two albums with his own trio. In September 2006, John will take
part in the Martial Solal Jazz Piano Competition in Paris.
Un des plus actifs trombonistes sur la scène jazz de Montréal, Richard
Gagnon est aussi le membre fondateur du Trombones Actions (groupe
composé de 6 trombonistes). Régulièrement demandé pour jouer
avec les meilleurs Big Bands et Medium Bands, Richard s’occupe
aussi de son quintette hard bop avec lequel il a fait un excellent CD
sur le label XXI. Il est un excellent compositeur et arrangeur, doublé
d’un sens de l’improvisation hors pair. Il s’est joint au JazzLab lors de
sa tournée en France à l’automne 2004.
One of the most active trombonists on the Montreal jazz scene,
Richard Gagnon is also a founding member of Trombones Actions, a
group composed of 6 trombones. Regularly sought-after by the very
best big bands and medium bands, he also recorded an excellent CD
on the XXI label with his own hard bop quintet. An outstanding composer and arranger with an unparalleled gift for improvisation, Richard
joined JazzLab for the group’s Fall 2004 tour of France.
