Paul “Tubby” Melanson
Paul’s dedication to minor sports
in the greater Moncton area and
to the youth associated with
hockey and baseball has been
ongoing since 1969. His hockey
related experiences were primarily in the capacity of coach,
and sometimes playing the role
of team representative at committee or league meetings. On
the baseball field he wore many
hats. In addition to coaching, he is on the Board of
Directors for the Moncton & District Minor Baseball
Association, Baseball NB Zone 5 Commissioner for
the Greater Moncton Area and Chairman of Baseball
NB “High Performance Committee” and served as
Chairman of Operation for the World Junior Baseball Tournament in 1997. “Tubby” also coached the
1977 NB Canada Games Baseball Team in NF. He
has dedicated anywhere from 12 to 16 hours a day,
seven days a week to the minor sports programs
in and around the Greater Moncton area. Furthermore, he has dedicated a considerable amount of
time to these sports in many other capacities, such
as fundraising, organizing tournaments and coaching clinics and putting together winter ball programs. He is most knowledgeable and has a wealth
of experience with respect to all aspects of minor
baseball and thus, an excellent resource person and
highly respected in his community. He is without
question an excellent ambassador for Minor Baseball. In 1998, he was also inducted into the New
Brunswick Baseball Hall of Fame.

Depuis 1969, Paul se dévoue sans relâche au sport mineur
de la région du Grand Moncton et aux jeunes s’adonnant
au hockey ou au baseball (ou aux deux). Ses expériences
au hockey ont surtout été dans l’entraînement, et il a parfois représenté des équipes à des réunions de comité
ou de ligue. Au baseball, il a porté de nombreux chapeaux. En plus de l’entraînement, il fait partie du conseil
d’administration de l’Association de baseball mineur de
Moncton et de la région, il est le commissaire de la zone
5 auprès de Baseball NB pour la région du Grand Moncton et le président du Comité de haute performance de
Baseball NB. Il a également été le président des opérations du Tournoi de baseball junior mondial en 1997. En
outre, en 1977, « Tubby » a été entraîneur de l’équipe
néo-brunswickoise de baseball aux Jeux du Canada à
Terre-Neuve-Labrador. Il a consacré en moyenne de 12 à
16 heures par jour, sept jours sur sept, aux programmes
de baseball mineur dans la région du Grand Moncton et
ses environs. Par ailleurs, il a consacré un temps considérable à ces sports dans de nombreuses autres fonctions, notamment la collecte de fonds, l’organisation de
tournois et de conférences pratiques des officiels et la
coordination de programmes de baseball d’hiver. Bien informé et fort d’une vaste expérience dans tous les volets
du baseball mineur, Paul est une excellente personneressource très respectée dans sa collectivité. Il est sans
contredit un excellent ambassadeur du baseball mineur.
En 1998, il a été intronisé au Temple de la renommée du
baseball du Nouveau-Brunswick.
