L’Université Concordia est de plus en plus
reconnue pour son approche de l’enseignement et de la
recherche qui vise à voir grand et à examiner les enjeux
de société sous de nombreux angles. Ouverte sur le
monde, elle encourage ses 46 000 étudiants à devenir
des citoyens engagés.
Grâce à ses quelque 500 programmes de
1er cycle et de cycles supérieurs, Concordia comble
les aspirations de ses étudiants et professeurs dans le but de tisser des liens entre
les communautés et d’enrichir la société. En outre, les relations officielles qu’elle
entretient avec plus de 150 établissements disséminés dans 33 pays lui assurent
un rayonnement international ainsi que diverses possibilités d’échanges.
Fidèle à l’esprit de ses deux établissements fondateurs, le Loyola College (1896)
et la Sir George Williams University (1926), elle s’est donné pour mission d’aider
ses étudiants à jouer un rôle actif dans leur apprentissage et dans la collectivité.
Les armoiries de l’Université Concordia ont été officiellement conférées par
le College of Arms de Londres le 23 décembre 1976; elles s’inspirent d’une longue
tradition d’armes héraldiques qui symbolisent la philosophie et l’histoire
de l’Université.
Le 13 décembre 1937, le conseil d’administration du Sir George Williams
College approuve un blason inspiré de celui de Sir George Williams, le fondateur
du YMCA. En 1962, la Sir George Williams University demande au College
of Arms de Londres le droit de porter officiellement ses propres armes.
Le 3 décembre 1964, la requête est acceptée.
Pour sa part, le Loyola College n’a jamais reçu d’autorisation officielle, même
s’il arbore différentes versions des emblèmes familiaux du fondateur de l’ordre
des Jésuites, saint Ignace de Loyola.
Les nouvelles armoiries de l’Université Concordia rappellent celles de ses
deux établissements fondateurs par le triangle du YMCA et le « soleil dans sa
splendeur », symbole héraldique reconnu des institutions jésuites. Au bas de
l’écu se déploie le listel portant l’inscription « Concordia », qui illustre l’idéal de
concorde de l’Université et sa participation à la vie de Montréal, dont la devise
est Concordia salus, « le salut par la concorde ».
Concordia is increasingly recognized for a
big-thinking approach to teaching and research that
examines societal issues from a broad perspective. We
are a university that is open to the world and encourage
our 46,000 students to become engaged citizens.
With more than 500 undergraduate and graduate
program offerings, we support the aspirations of our
students and faculty members in order to bridge
communities and enrich society. Our formal ties to more than 150 institutions in
33 countries provide opportunities for international outreach and exchange.
From the earliest days of our founding institutions, Loyola College (1896) and
Sir George Williams University (1926), helping our students engage in learning
and community service has been at the core of our mission.
Concordia’s current coat of arms was issued by the College of Arms in London
in 1976, but it falls within an older tradition of armorial bearings that symbolically
embody the history of Concordia University.
On December 13, 1937, the Board of Governors of Sir George Williams College
approved a coat of arms based upon the original coat of arms of Sir George
Williams, the founder of the YMCA. In 1962, Sir George Williams University
applied to the College of Arms in London for the right to bear arms officially and
to have proper arms assigned to it. On December 3, 1964, the College of Arms
ascribed official arms to Sir George Williams University and gave it the legal right
to bear them.
Loyola College did not have an official grant of arms, but informally used
various versions of the ancestral arms used by the family of Jesuit founder St.
Ignatius of Loyola.
On December 23, 1976, the new armorial bearings for Concordia University
were officially granted by the College of Arms, London. The coat of arms reflects
Concordia’s two founding institutions, including both the “Sun in his splendour,”
long recognized in heraldry as a mark of Jesuit institutions, and the YMCA
triangle, the whole intended to embody the spirit and the history of Concordia.
On the ribbon stretched beneath the shield is the device “Concordia,” signifying
the university’s aspiration as well as its participation in the life of the City of
Montreal, the motto of which is Concordia Salus.

fierté de votre alma mater. Les connaissances, l’expérience et les compétences
que vous avez acquises à l’Université vous seront extrêmement précieuses
dans la poursuite de vos passions et de votre carrière. Vous êtes d’importants
ambassadeurs de cet établissement. Nous espérons ainsi que vous garderez le

ont eu la générosité de vous soutenir tout au long de ce difficile parcours.
Partout au Canada, Concordia est reconnue comme une université
branchée et avant-gardiste. Vous vous y êtes attelé à vos études avec
détermination et grand talent, de sorte que vous êtes maintenant prêt à entrer
de plain-pied dans le monde. Ainsi, par l’entremise d’une nouvelle génération

Emanuele (Lino) Saputo, C.M., O.Q., D.h.c.
Emanuele (Lino) Saputo, C.M., O.Q., Dr h.c.
Lino Saputo naît en Italie en 1937 du maître fromager Giuseppe Saputo et
de sa femme Maria. La famille émigre au Canada en 1952 et fonde deux ans
plus tard l’entreprise qui porte son nom. En 1969, Lino Saputo succède à son
père en tant que président de la société et du conseil d’administration. En
1997, l’entreprise effectue son premier appel public à l’épargne. En 1998, Lino
Saputo devient président et chef de la direction. En 2004, il cède ses fonctions
de président et chef de la direction à son fils Lino A. Saputo et assume la
présidence du conseil d’administration. En juin 2010, Lino Saputo reçoit un
doctorat honorifique de l’Université de Montréal. Il est nommé officier de
l’Ordre national du Québec en mai 2011, puis membre de l’Ordre du Canada
en juin 2012. En novembre 2012, il entre à l’académie des Grands Montréalais
de la Chambre de commerce du Montréal métropolitain. En mai 2014, Lino
Saputo est intronisé au Temple de la renommée de l’entreprise canadienne.
Lino Saputo was born in Italy, in 1937, to Master Cheesemaker Giuseppe
Saputo and his wife, Maria. The Saputo family immigrated to Canada in
1952, and two years later, founded the Company which bears their name. In
1969, succeeding his father, Lino Saputo was named Chairman of the Board
and President of the Company. In 1997, Saputo completed its initial public
offering. Lino became Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer
in 1998. In 2004, his son Lino A. Saputo, Jr. was appointed to the position of
President and Chief Executive Officer, while Lino Saputo remained Chairman
of the Board. Lino Saputo was the recipient of an honorary doctorate from
the Université de Montréal in June 2010. In May 2011, he was made an Officer
of the National Order of Québec and in June 2012, was appointed Member of
the Order of Canada. In November 2012, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan
Montreal inducted Lino Saputo into the Academy of Great Montrealers. In
May 2014, Lino Saputo was inducted into the Canadian Business Hall
of Fame.

GENDER NEUTR AL DEGREE NOMENCL ATURE
En février 1992, l’Université Concordia a adopté une politique sur la
nomenclature des diplômes qui permet aux étudiants d’obtenir un diplôme
libellé de façon neutre, sans référence au genre masculin. Depuis juin 1994, on
peut demander que le nom du diplôme soit formulé suivant la nomenclature
traditionnelle ou récente. La formulation récente se lit en anglais Baccalaureate,
Magisteriate et Doctorate tandis que la nomenclature traditionnelle se lisait
Bachelor, Master et Doctor. La nomenclature française demeure inchangée avec
l’emploi des termes baccalauréat, maîtrise et doctorat.
Les diplômés de l’Université Concordia peuvent demander une réémission
de leur diplôme suivant la nouvelle nomenclature.
In February 1992, Concordia University adopted a policy on degree
nomenclature that seeks to provide students with the opportunity to graduate
with gender neutral degree titles. This policy stipulates that students are
entitled to receive their degrees in either the traditional or new degree
nomenclature. The new names for degrees are: Baccalaureate, Magisteriate
and Doctorate. The traditional nomenclature is: Bachelor, Master and Doctor.
As of June 1994, students may choose to graduate with degree titles that
are gender neutral and refer to the diplomas themselves. Graduates who have
previously been awarded a Concordia degree will be able to request that their
degree be reissued in the new nomenclature.

qu’ils traverseront la scène lors de la collation des grades. Les nouveaux
diplômés recevront un spécimen de photo et un bon de commande dans

CONVOC ATION PHOTOGR APHY
Each graduate will be photographed as they cross the stage at their
convocation ceremony by a professional photographer. Graduates will receive
a sample proof and an order form within two weeks of the ceremony.
