BIOGRAPHIE
Roger Morriss a obtenu son doctorat en 1978 avec une thèse portant sur les chantiers maritimes
royaux britanniques pendant la Révolution française et les guerres napoléoniennes, complété par un
livre sur la période 1793-1815, publié en 1983.
Roger Morriss a commencé et terminé sa carrière en tant que professeur. Mais de 1979 à 1995, il a
travaillé au National Maritime Museum où il était en charge des collections de manuscrits.
En tant que conservateur de recherche, en 1994, il a édité le Guide to British Naval Papers in North
America.
Depuis 1997, il formait à l'histoire navale et maritime à l'Université d'Exeter, et dispensait un cours sur
les sources et les compétences pour les historiens maritimes à l'Institut maritime de Greenwich,
Université de Greenwich.
Depuis la fin des années 1980, il enseignait à l'Université de Cambridge, puis vers la fin des années
1990, il a donné des cours pour les archéologues maritimes au Département d'archéologie de
l'Université de Bristol.
Entre 2000 et 2013, il a été rédacteur en chef de la Navy Records Society, dont il est maintenant viceprésident.
