ettre des mots sur un projet artistique qui souhaite, justement, s’en
passer… Périlleux. A moins que… D’abord, ces photographies se
passent de mots, certes, mais en inspirent de nombreux. Lui, s’inspire de
La Cène. Si, pour ce projet, David André garde en tête le célèbre tableau
de Léonard de Vinci, c’est qu’« Il y a de quoi regarder à chaque visionnage
tellement c’est riche et foisonnant. Ce jeu-là m’intéresse. » Le jeu, justement, est
un peu casse-gueule : il faut « raconter des histoires », imaginer une scène quasi
cinématographique, tout en laissant penser que la scène est réelle, que tout a
été pris « sur le vif ». Toutes les étapes ont pourtant été saisies séparément : le
lieu, vide de toute vie, et chaque modèle, séparément ou en duo. « Tout se joue
dans les repérages. Je pars des lieux. Ensuite, j’habille de vie l’espace, j’imagine
une scène » illustre David. On s’immisce en coulisses et on surprend Arnaud,
un des figurant, en pleine pose : « Alors là, c’est carrément l’Actor Studio ! » Le
skieur Alexis Pinturault, raie sur le côté et cheveux laqués, entre ensuite en
piste. David lui donne quelques directives. « Tu représentes la relève qui arrive.
C’est l’histoire d’un jeune prodige qui gagne tout avec une facilité insolente. Ton
père est heureux mais, à la fois, il s’aperçoit qu’il n’est plus de la partie. Il est un
peu blasé, au fond, de ce passage de flambeau. Toi, par contre, tu n’es jamais
blasé de gagner, tu n’en as jamais assez, tu es dans la joie quasi enfantine. »
« C’est une expérience inédite pour moi», glisse Alexis, transformé en élégant
mafieux. « Je n’ai jamais fait de photos de ce genre. D’habitude, on me shoote
dans les raquettes d’arrivée et… on ne me maquille pas ! » Marion, la coiffeuse,
peaufine le chignon sixties de Géraldine, qui joue la petite amie du champion.
« L’important, c’est la lumière » résume Fred le maquilleur. « La plupart du

temps, notre travail, c’est de traduire la vraie vie. Mais en mieux ! Là, c’est
carrément du cinéma, on doit aider les modèles à rentrer dans un personnage,
d’autant qu’ils ne sont pas professionnels. Le maquillage et la coiffure aident
à se déguiser, tout cela tient de l’enfance.» Complicité des gens qui travaillent
souvent en duo, Marion et Fred se mettent à chuchoter de concert : « Il a un
faux air de Brad Pitt ! » et s’extasient sur les talents d’Alexis qui change en
effet d’intention d’un simple haussement de sourcils. Clap de fin, le champion
demande à voir le résultat. David lui explique le processus avec les photos de
Taïna : « Il y a du boulot, hein, commente le slalomeur. On ne se doute pas du
travail que ça représente, quand on voit l’image finale. » C’est bien le but, la
photo engendrée doit paraître harmonieuse et simple. « En tout cas, je suis très
honoré de faire partie du projet parce qu’on va enfin voir nos visages tels qu’ils
sont dans la vraie vie. En athlétisme, lorsque le champion franchit la ligne, on
voit son expression… alors que nous, avec nos casques… ! » David se penche
sur le Mac avec Stéphane, son inséparable assistant, et Caro, la styliste. Histoire
de juger le rendu des clichés engrangés depuis le début de matinée. Un travail
énorme, dans l’ensemble. La photo de Taïna a réclamé près d’une centaine
de calques. Comprenne qui pourra*. Au final, le résultat propose un regard
inédit sur nos champions tricolores. Un regard plein d’humour mais toujours
bienveillant. David est un humaniste. Comme Léonard de Vinci. Et si l’homme
réfuterait la comparaison en bloc, le photographe, lui, est bien obligé d’avouer
que sa démarche tient bien en un mot cher au génie : art.

Les indiscrétions et anecdotes des sessions… Ou comment nos champions
ont démontré une bonne dose d’humour et une patience à toute épreuve lors
de ces séances photos pas comme les autres…
Lors de la session photo qui lui était consacrée, Vincent Jay a passé tout
l’après-midi dans une eau à 10°. L’eau lui rentrait dans les bottes, mais poli
et bien élevé, le champion continuera de sourire au milieu de la rivière en
cherchant sa médaille… Un grand moment ! Adrien Théaux, c’est sûr, fera
un bon papa. Quelle patience : le jour de sa session photo, à Val Thorens,
dix enfants du club étaient présents. Honoré, le skieur international restera
tout le temps de la séance alors que sa photo était déjà réalisée. Deux
heures durant, Adrien regardera ainsi les enfants qu’il connaît bien se faire
prendre en photo, tout simplement pour rendre un peu de l’admiration que
lui portent ces mini skieurs. Taïna Barioz, elle, se rappellera aussi longtemps
de sa séance. Incontestablement heureuse d’être là, c’est avec grand plaisir
qu’elle entrera dans ce rôle de quasi princesse, maquillée et habillée comme
jamais elle ne l’aura été. Elle en rit encore ! Tout comme son père, venu
l’accompagner, et trop heureux de figurer sur l’image avec elle et le chapeau
haut de forme dont l’avait affublé nos stylistes.
La journée consacrée aux photos des Frères Lau n’était pas mal non plus.
Les trois frangins avaient fait le déplacement avec femmes, enfants,
petites amies et vieux potes... S’en suivront quelques sessions de francs
délires et une ambiance détonante qu’on ressent bien sur les images. Une
implication au moins égale à celle de Jérémy Prévost : très emballé par
l’expérience lui aussi, il n’aura de cesse de proposer plein d’idées de poses
au photographe… Un début de reconversion en perspective ?
Backstage
L’idée ? Saluer la belle saison de nos champions made in les 3 Vallées en leur consacrant une session photo. Mais pas n’importe quelle session !
Le brief encourage même l’approche artistique, c’est dire. Pour ce travail de haut vol, c’est le photographe David André qui a été retenu.
Résultat : de magnifiques clichés poudrés inspirés d’un nouveau courant artistique en vogue. Le choix de David : shooter les champions des
3 Vallées dans un univers qui tend au ciné. Il a shooté les décors d’abord, puis les figurants, un à un, avant de les intégrer à l’image le plus
naturellement du monde. Lumière (tamisée) sur les dessous de ces images léchées, nées des amours de la photographie et du graphisme.

The sessions’ indiscretions and anecdotes… Or how our champions showed
their good humour and endless patience during these unusual photo
sessions…
During his photo session, Vincent Jay spent all afternoon in water at 10°. The
water was going into his boots, but polite and well brought up, the champion
kept on smiling in the middle of the river looking for his medal…A great
moment!
Adrien Théaux will certainly make a great dad. What patience: on the day of
his photo session in Val Thorens, ten kids from the club were there. Honoured,
the international skier stayed throughout the session even though his photo
was already done. For two hours, Adrien watched these kids that he knows
well get their picture taken, just to give back a little of the admiration that
these mini skiers show him.
Taïna Barioz will remember her session for just as long. Unquestionably happy
to be there, she had a great time getting dressed up like a princess, made up
and dressed like she never was before. She still laughs about it now! Just like
her dad who came along with her and was only too happy to be in the photo
with her, with the top hat the stylists put on him.
The day that was dedicated to photographing the Lau brothers wasn’t
bad either. The three brothers came along with their wives, children,
girlfriends and old friends...There followed a few completely mad sessions
and an explosive atmosphere that really comes out in the images. There
was a similar level of involvement from Jérémy Prévost who was also very
enthusiastic about the experience. He didn’t stop putting forward ideas for
poses to the photographer…The start of a new career in perspective?
Backstage
The idea was to greet our homegrown champions’
favourite season by dedicating a photo shoot to them.
But not just any photo shoot! The brief actually
encourages an artistic approach, to give you an idea. We
asked the photographer, David André, to carry out this
far-reaching task. The result is a series of magnificent
photos inspired by a fashionable new artistic movement.
David’s choice: to shoot the 3 Vallées champions in a
cinema-like decor. He shot the decors first, then the
characters, one by one, before integrating them into the
image in the most natural way possible. Filtered light
forms the background of these polished images, inspired
by a love of photography and graphics.

up Fred, the make-up artist. “Most of the time, our job is to represent real
life. But make it look better! This is really like a film, we have to help the
models to get into character, particularly as they aren’t professionals. The
make up and hairdos help with that, it’s like being a child again.”
With the complicity of people who often work together, Marion and Fred
start whispering together: “He looks a bit like Brad Pitt!” and they go into
raptures over Alexis’ talents when he changes his intention just by raising
his eyebrows. At the end of the session, the champion asks to see the
result. David explains the process to him using the photos of Taïna: “There
certainly is work to do”, comments the slalom skier. There’s no doubt about

21 ans et déjà un podium en Coupe du monde, c’était durant l’hiver 2011 lors du Géant de Kranjska Gora. Avant cela, Alexis avait déjà pointé le bout de ses spatules sur le grand Cirque blanc,
mais son heure de gloire il l’a obtenu l’année de sa majorité en devenant tout simplement champion du monde junior en géant.
21 years old and already a World Cup medal from the Giant in Kranjska Gora in winter 2011. Before that, Alexis had already dipped his ski tips into the big white

World tour, le plus jeune participant de ce circuit a brillé en accrochant la troisième place du général ! Prometteur...
Jérémy is not just an outstanding freeride skier, but is also crazy about DH and nuts about ice hockey. A hockey stick, a mountain bike, whatever…as long as it makes life exciting.
The first time he took part in the Freeride World tour, the youngest competitor on the circuit shone by winning the 3rd place!. A promising start...

Chris, Phil et Sven Lau ont en commun leur nom et une passion dévorante, le télémark ! A 25, 23 et 22 ans aux compteurs, ils ont des styles bien distincts mais des résultats au diapason. Chris, l’aîné, est champion de
France en titre de classic. Sven, le petit dernier, a été médaille de bronze aux Mondiaux en classic sprint et globe de cristal en géant. Entre les deux, Phil, lui, est devenu Champion du Monde en titre de classic sprint.
Chris, Phil and Sven Lau have both their name and an overwhelming passion in common: telemark! At 25, 23 and 22 years old, they have quite different styles but similar results. Chris, the eldest, is French champion in
classical. Sven, the youngest of the bunch, was bronze medallist in the classical sprint World Championships and won the crystal globe in the giant. Phil, the middle one, became world champion in the classical sprint.

Vincent, le dénicheur d’or ! Avec lui, on peut faire ses Jeux ! A Vancouver, côté biathlon, on attend Defrasne ou Fourcade. C’est Vincent qui, le premier, voit grand. 14 février 2010, jour « Jay » pour le
10 km sprint ! Et première médaille d’or pour la délégation française. Récidive sur le 15 km : breloque de bronze. Le monsieur serait-il accro à la victoire ?
Vincent, the gold digger! You could bet on him at the Games! In the biathlon at Vancouver, we expected Defrasne or Fourcade to do great things, but it was Vincent who was the first to aim high.
On February 14th, 2010, it was “Jay” day for the 10 km sprint and the first gold medal for the French team! Same again in the 15 km: a bronze charm for his collection. Is Mr. Jay addicted to victory?
