SECTION I – Selection of the participant
Introduction 1 : <SOIR >, my name is $I from Statistique Québec. We are conducting a study on the
presence of tobacco in your environment (exposure to second-hand smoke) for the ministère de la Santé.
First, let’s take a few minutes to draw a portrait of your home.

<SOIR >, my name is $I from Statistique Québec. We are conducting a study on the presence of tobacco
in your environment (exposure to secondhand smoke) for the ministère de la Santé.
Your participation is voluntary, but would be much appreciated as it will enable the Ministère to monitor the
evolution of the population’s habits and opinions regarding tobacco.
The information collected will be transmitted to the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux and to
the Institut national de santé publique du Québec, except for your name, address and phone number. You
can provide your information to us with confidence, as it will be kept confidential and will only be used for
statistical purposes.To ensure the quality of the survey, my supervisor may listen in on the interview. With
your permission, we will start the interview.

Electronic cigarette: Explanation for respondents who don’t know what an electronic cigarette is: It’s a
cylindrical device that looks like a cigarette. Instead of tobacco, it contains a mixture of water, mixed
