The exhibition Cloud Illusions I Recall explores the relationship between Art and Cinema and is co-curated by French artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster and Cerith Wyn Evans, and Rachael Thomas, Senior Curator, IMMA. Special works have been created for this exhibition among which the premiere of the unique performance of Lola Montes by Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster. As part of the exhibition, the IFI, in partnership with IMMA, presents films by great Chris Marker, selected by Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster. On Saturday, June 22 nd , a screening of La Jetée will be followed by a panel discussion entitled Art and Film – The Magnificent Obsession. The panel includes Dominique GonzalezFoerster. On Sunday, June 23 rd, there will be a screening of Marker's Sans Soleil. Home presents a stunning depiction of how the Earth’s problems are all interlinked, but with only one thing responsible: the human. The movie screening will be entirely audience powered through Re:Cycle human powered cinema. 6 bikes and 12 legs to power a 2000 Lumen projector and 150W audio system to screen films or projections. Audience Participation will be required. Food and drinks will be available. CONFERENCE A DAY OF TALKS ABOUT IRISH-FRENCH MILITARY RELATIONS 8 JUNE 2013 The National Museum of Ireland - Decorative Arts and History in association with the French Embassy in Ireland presents a day of talks about Irish-French military relations from the 17th- 20th century. Speakers will explore the Jacobite diaspora in France, the Wild Geese and related historiography, the life of Theobald Wolf Tone and Irish people’s involvement in the French Resistance during World War II. This year the Blackrock Castle Observatory teamed up with the Embassy of France in Ireland to bring the amazing selection of images from the TARA Oceans Exhibition, with Dr. Emmanuel Reynaud, exhibition coordinator and curator to give a talk (1pm) and two screenings of Planet Ocean (11.30am & 2pm). Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June 2013 To Book your pass to this weekend visit: www.worldactorsforum.com EXHIBITION « DE GAULLE: A QUIET HOLIDAY » UNTIL 21 JUNE 2013 De Gaulle: A Quiet Holiday presents original photographs from the Kennelly Archive of De Gaulle’s visit to Ireland after he left power in May 1969. Portraits of the McCartans, De Gaulle’s Irish ancestors, will also be exhibited. Padraig and Joan Kennelly, founders of a small photo-graphic studio in Tralee, followed the trail of this noted visitor and recorded the excitement caused amongst the inhabitants of Sneem, County Kerry. They called their collection “A Quiet Holiday”. The exhibition is presented by the French Embassy in Ireland in association with the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU and The Gathering Ireland 2013. The original exhibition was conceived by Isabelle Galy-Aché and presented by the Irish Cultural Centre in Paris in 2011, with the support of the Kennelly Archive, Fondation Charles de Gaulle, Ireland Fund of France. A real tribute to Hip-Hop from the 90's, Soul Square mixes old-school with contemporary influences, and both casual and smooth grooves with pure Hip-Hop beats. Street Literature is part of the Workin Class Records label. 'A gritty, urban poetry shines through Products of the Environment, a compilation album on Workin Class Records. Track after track documents growing up with little in the way of options and realities dominated by drug abuse, crime and paranoia. Their videos capture blighted estates full of hooded youths, pushed to the margins by the city’s economic apartheid. Watch the video here EXHIBITION «THE BOYNE VALLEY IN THE ALBERT KAHN COLLECTION (1913)» 27 JUNE - 31 AUGUST 2013 This prestigious exhibition displays one of the earliest collections of colour photographs taken in Ireland and the Boyne Valley taken exactly 100 years ago by two remarkable French women, Marguerite Mespoulet and Madeleine Mignon. The two young women graduates recorded Irish life on their journey through Ireland from Galway to the Boyne Valley. Marguerite Mespoulet kept a diary and wrote entries on her observations. The photographic expedition to Ireland was part of a world-wide project, financed by the wealthy French banker and pacifist, Albert Kahn, that documented, through film and photography, aspects of cultures that were rapidly changing and disappearing.
