Re: Threat on the Medical School of Lübeck University
I have been informed that there are current discussions about the
possibility of closing the Medical School of the University of Lübeck.
As a Member of Claude-Bernard University of Medicine in Lyon, I
wish to express my strong concerns about this possible decision.
The Medical School of Lübeck is a leading force in the medical world
and its disappearance would be a major disaster in Europe and in the
world.
I am particularly concerned by the effects of such a negative decision
on the current collaborative programmes set between the medical
department of the University of Lübeck and our university. Professor
Olaf Hiort from Lübeck is the main leader of an important European
research project on Disorders of Sex Development (Euro DSD –
Seventh Framework Programme) which is financed by the European
institution. A threat on the Medical School of Lübeck would definitely
jeopardize this European network which clearly goes against the
interests of the international scientific community.
I hope that these rumours will fade away and I thank you in advance
for measuring the potential consequences of such a drastic decision for
the international medical community.
