world's first ejectable data recorder, as fitted
to the Vickers VCIO and BAC One-Eleven
airliners. This is shown together with other
types of recording equipment especially suited
to aircraft and missile flight tests.

This company has specialized for 25 years in
the manufacture of radiators, exhaust systems
and firewalls and has more recently concentrated o n the use of stainless steel and light
alloys for turbine and piston engines. Exhibited o n the stand are the exhaust system of the
S N E C M A (Bristol Siddeley) Hercules, jet pipes
for the Magister and CT 20 and various components for the Marbor6 II and VI.

What the company claims as the "world's
first universal Doppler navigator,"
the
Ryanav IV, is being demonstrated by the
Compagnie Francaise Thomson-Houston, who
handle European sales for Ryan. Ryan themselves have brought the latest data on the
XV-5A lift-fan and XC-142A V/STOL aircraft,
and o n the Ryan Firebee, which is claimed as
the most widely used jet target in the world.
Also present is the Flex Wing. The company

is showing films of the latest space altimeters,
for use with the Surveyor lunar soft-landing
spacecraft and Saturn V rocket, and Solar
panels used by the Mariner II space probe and
Transit satellites.
Great interest is certain to be aroused by the
Flex Wing, a single-seat research aircraft
having a delta-shaped membrane of coated
nylon and powered by a 100 h.p. Continental
engine. Speed range is 24 m.p.h. to 60 m.p.h.
The XV-5A is likewise a research aircraft
having a General Electric fan just over 5ft in
diameter in each wing and a third General
Electric fan in the nose. A Mach number of
0.83 is expected.

This Swedish company is showing the front
fuselage of the new Saab 105 twin-jet trainer
and attack aircraft. Additionally there is the
Saab BT9 toss-bombing computer as sold to
France for the Dassault Etendard naval strike
aircraft, and the latest Saab weapon-training
systems. The Swedish Air Force will contribute to the flying displays at the weekend with
a team of six Saab J35 Drakens.
The Saab 105 is powered with two Turbomeca Aubisque ducted fans and has side-byside ejection seats. At the rear of the pressurized cabin provision is made for two extra
seats, or a bench-type seat for two or three
persons. As an attack aircraft it can carry two
20mm guns, 12 13.5cm rockets, six 120kg
bombs, two 250kg bombs or two guided
weapons. Provision for radio covers duplicated
VHF, A D F , ILS and VOR equipment.
The Draken has a wing of "double delta"
form and is powered by a Rolls-Royce Avon
built under licence by Svenska Flygmotor.
The J35D version achieves over Mach 2 and
lands at the comparatively low speed of 134
m.p.h. Rate of climb is nearly 50,000ft/min.
