1. Introduction
L’association Hypnocrate a le plaisir et l’honneur d’accueillir sept médecins qui ont accepté d’être conférenciers à
titre bénévole lors de la conférence en juillet 2014.
L’objectif de la conférence est de présenter l’outil hypnose à tous les professionnels de santé intéressés, ainsi
que les étudiants de ces disciplines. L’objectif à long terme est d’inciter ces professionnels de santé à se former,
et ainsi inclure l’outil dans leur pratique habituelle de soins. Cela contribuera à une prise en charge globale du
patient en tant que personne, devenu acteur de ses soins.

2. Chris Ewin

Dr. Ewin is a direct practice (“concierge”) family physician in Fort Worth, Texas, and started One to One MD in
2002. He is past-president of the American Academy of Private Physicians (previously the American Academy of
Concierge Physicians), the organization of healthcare providers promoting a direct financial relationship with their
patients in order to restore the integrity of the patient-physician relationship.
In 2000, Dr. Ewin became medical director of PDX-NHIN (National Health Information Network) pharmacy
software and development company. PDX-NHIN bought Rx.com in 2001 and serves over 60 chain pharmacies
and 10,000 retail pharmacy stores.
He participated in creating the first portable and interoperable electronic pharmacy record, focusing on only one
clinical aspect of the central patient record.
Dr. Ewin received his undergraduate and medical degrees at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. He
completed a pediatric internship at Tulane University and a family practice residency at John Peter Smith Hospital
in Fort Worth, Texas. From 1990-2000, he was in private practice in Fort Worth.
Dr. Ewin looks forward to exploring and implementing innovative healthcare delivery methods in the future.

3. Dabney M. Ewin, M.D.
Dabney M. Ewin, MD, FACS is Clinical Professor of Surgery and
Psychiatry at Tulane Medical School, and Clinical Professor of
Psychiatry at Louisiana State University Medical School. He has
practiced occupational medicine and surgery for.many years, and was
President of the Louisiana Occupational Medical Association, then
Speaker of the House of Delegates of the American College of
Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
He has five children, Dabney, Jr., Constance, Walton, Christopher, and Leila.
Dr. Ewin is Past President of both the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and the American Board of Medical
Hypnosis, and a Fellow and past Secretary of the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis. He has
received the Milton Erickson award of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the Roy Dorcas Award of the
Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, and the Pierre Janet Award of the International Society of
Hypnosis. He has had an active private practice treating psychosomatic disorders by hypnoanalysis.
In 1960 Dr. Ewin was the company doctor for the Kaiser Aluminum plant on the outskirts of New Orleans, where
aluminum oxide was heated to 1700°F (900°C) to obtain pure aluminum. He learned that the pain of burns could
be controlled by hypnosis, and sought advanced training in medical hypnosis. He also learned that hypnosis was
helpful in the treatment of other painful disorders, autoimmune diseases, habit disorders, smoking, warts, asthma,
and many skin conditions.
While he continued his surgical and occupational practice, he expanded his interest in hypnosis and began
teaching it to the medical students at Tulane in 1970. By 1980 he was teaching the third year psychiatry residents
at both Tulane and Louisiana State University Medical Schools. In 1994 he was honored as Distinguished Visiting
Professor by the Royal Society of Medicine, spending two weeks in the UK lecturing and teaching in London,
Stoke-on-Trent, Glasgow, and Sheffield. In 2003 he served as Keynote Speaker for the annual meeting of the
Australian Society of Hypnosis in Brisbane. In 2013 he was a Keynote speaker at the International Conference on
Hypnosis in Medicine in Budapest.
He has written two books. One is a “How to” book on ideomotor technique, and the other is “101 Things I Wish I’d
Known When I Started Using Hypnosis,” which has now been translated into both German and Japanese.
He is now semi-retired, but continues his teaching and sees hypnosis patients several days a week.

4. Marie-Elisabeth Faymonville
Marie-Elisabeth Faymonville was awarded her degree as a Doctor of
Medicine at the University of Liege in 1977, and is a specialist in
Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine.
She began her career as research fellow at the national foundation for
scientific research, then as a specialist in the Department of Anaesthesia
and Intensive Care Medicine of the University Hospital Center of Liege,
with the responsibility of the Burn Center and the Department of
Maxillofacial and Plastic Surgery.
She developed, in 1992, a new method of anaesthesia: hypnosedation.
This original approach was evaluated by retrospective and prospective clinical studies, which were published in a
number of prestigious national and international journals; this research provided the opportunity for a number of
students to write their theses. Since 1994, she has been teaching this technique in a free course at the University
of Liege where more than 400 participants, coming from different European countries, have already received this
training.
She participates actively in all levels of the studies of medicine at the University of Liege as well as at the
European Post-Graduate Course of Anaesthesia-Reanimation and the Belgian Inter-University courses of Pain
Medicine.
Her original research activity is centered on the investigation of the neuroanatomical mechanisms of various
states of consciousness, including hypnosis. In 2002, she defended a thesis of Aggregation of Higher education
(the highest graduate degree offered in Belgian Universities): “Hypnosis in Anaesthesia-Reanimation, from clinical
applications to the cerebral mechanisms”.
Her original clinical approach of the use of hypnosis in surgery, chronic pain and palliative care enabled her to
promote hypnosis as a particularly interesting tool in modern medicine.
Professor since 2003, she directs the Pain Center and takes an active part, as consultant doctor, with the
Palliative Care team of the C.H.U of Liege. She is Head of the Department of Algology and Palliative Care.
She is member of the Board of directors of the Palliative Care platform in Liege, Belgium, and member of the
Federal Commission of Control and Evaluation of Euthanasia in Belgium.
She is member of 9 scientific societies, author and co-author of 200 publications, with a total impact factor of
175.10.

8. Claude Virot
Médecin psychiatre et formateur au sein de l'institut Emergences qu'il
dirige, Claude Virot s'est, dès le début de sa carrière, intéressé à
l'hypnose et aux thérapies brèves.
Formé en 1986 par Jacques-Antoine Malarewicz, il créé l'Institut Milton
H. Erickson de Rennes-Bretagne en 1994.
Résolument tourné vers le développement à l'international de l'hypnose, Claude Virot va être successivement
président de la Confédération Francophone d'Hypnose et Thérapie Brève (CFHTB), responsable des Relations
Internationales de la CFHTB, membre du bureau de la Société Européenne d'Hypnose (ESH) et de la Société
Internationale d'Hypnose (ISH) dont il deviendra le président en 2015 (élection en 2012).
En 2009, Claude Virot reçoit le prix Jay Haley Early Career de l'ISH pour avoir consacré sa carrière au
développement de l'hypnose. La même année, il reçoit de Ernest Rossi the Distinguished Lifetime Achievement
award à l'Institut Milton H. Erickson de Californie.
Son implication se traduit aussi par les nombreux congrès qu'il organise en France. Le dernier, consacré à
l'Hypnose et la douleur, a accueilli 600 participants à Quiberon, en mai 2012.
Claude Virot a également porté la candidature de la CFHTB pour organiser le prochain congrès international de
l'ISH avec succès. Il se tiendra à Paris, du 26 au 29 août 2015.
Avec 3 livres - le dernier, co-écrit avec le Dr Franck Bernard, s'intitule «Hypnose, douleur aiguë et anesthésie» et une cinquantaine d'articles, Claude Virot participe activement à la recherche en hypnose, en particulier sur les
thèmes du chaos, du deuil, du burn-out, de la dissociation ou encore de l'hypnose quantique.
