The social and economic crisis highlights the limits of our
economic system. It calls for a global transition towards
a model in which maximum short-term profit is no longer
the sole benchmark. Social economy actors, at their level,
are already at work to implement this transformation, and
they sketch the key lines of a more sustainable economy.
The main challenge of this transition is to move from a
slogan and local experiments to more systemic, realistic and
rigorous proposals, based on relevant tools.
La crise économique et sociale révèle les limites de notre
système économique. Elle appelle à une transition globale
vers un modèle dont le profit maximum et à court terme
ne constituera plus l’unique paramètre de référence. A leur
niveau, les acteurs de l’économie sociale travaillent déjà à
mettre en œuvre cette mutation et esquissent les contours
d’une économie plus durable. Le principal défi de cette
transition est de passer du slogan et des expérimentations
locales à des propositions plus systémiques, réalistes et
rigoureuses, appuyées sur des outils pertinents.
Together with its partners, the Centre for Social Economy
works on tomorrow’s economy; the latter’s projects underway
are many. During the first week of July, the 4th EMES Research
Conference will bring together more than 300 international
researchers and will make Liege the world’s capital city of
research on social enterprise. Prior to this large conference,
the Centre for Social Economy will host, on July 1, within HEC
Management School of the University of Liege, city centre, an
International Forum on the theme « If not for profit, for what?
And how? ».
This Forum will allow scholars and practitioners to come
together to share their answers to the challenges of transition.
What are the legal forms that the new enterprises can adopt,
and what will these forms be in the future? What are the
innovating financial resources that these enterprises can tap
into? How can philanthropy support these initiatives? How
can public policies promote social enterprises? How can the
training of students be redesigned with a view to preparing the
transition? You are hereby invited to discuss these issues, and
many more, with researchers from all over the world.
The working language for the Forum will be English.
International Forum Venue:
Avec ses partenaires, le Centre d’Economie Sociale travaille
sur l’économie de demain et ses chantiers sont multiples. La
4ème conférence scientifique du Réseau EMES rassemblera
plus de 300 chercheurs internationaux et fera de Liège la
capitale mondiale de la recherche sur l’entreprise sociale
durant la première semaine de juillet. En prélude à cette grande
conférence, le Centre d’Economie Sociale accueillera le 1er juillet
à HEC-ULg, centre ville, un Forum international sur le thème «
If not for profit, for what? And how? ».
Ce Forum réunira experts et acteurs de terrain pour leur
permettre de confronter et de partager leurs réponses aux
défis de la transition. Quels sont et seront les cadres législatifs
dans lesquels peuvent s’inscrire ces nouvelles entreprises?
Sur quelles ressources financières novatrices peuvent-elles
s’appuyer? Comment la philanthropie peut-elle soutenir ces
initiatives? Comment les politiques publiques peuvent-elles
promouvoir les entreprises sociales? Comment repenser la
formation des étudiants pour préparer la transition? C’est
autour de ces questions, et de bien d’autres encore, que nous
vous invitons à échanger avec des chercheurs du monde entier.
La langue de travail de la conférence sera l’anglais.
