Technical Meeting:
The Technical meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday May 05, 2009 at the Quality Inn &
Suites Bayer's Lake, 980 Parkland Drive, Halifax (our athlete host hotel).
Training:
Training at the competition venue will be provided to all teams on the day prior to the
competition as follows:

Judge and Coach Meals:
The judge’s meals (5) will be served on site at the Canada Games Centre. Please indicate on
the registration form if there are any food allergies.
There will be a coach’s room as well on-site where coaches can avail of fresh sandwiches and
snacks, at no charge, throughout the two day event.
Athlete Meals:
There will be canteen services available at the venue. There is a small Subway in the building
as well.
Athlete Banquet:
The Athlete Banquet will be held Saturday May 7th at the Atlantica Hotel. A meal and
entertainment will be provided. Dinner will be at 7:15 p.m. followed by the entertainment. Two
chaperones per province are requested to attend the entire banquet. Athletes must show their
accreditations to enter the banquet. Transportation will be provided to and from the dance
location. The banquet will end at approximately 11:00 p.m.
Adult Social:
While athletes are attending their banquet, adults are invited to attend a social especially for
them. This event will take place at Freeman's Little New York Restaurant,
6092 Quinpool Road, Halifax. This restaurant is located fairly close to where our athletes will be
attending their banquet.

City Transportation:
Please note that Metro Transit will provide all accredited athletes, judges, coaches, and
volunteers with passes to use on all regular service buses and ferries during your stay in Halifax.
Medical Services:
An Emergency Medical Technician, together with a qualified Physiotherapist will be in
attendance during all competitive sessions. An on call Doctor as well as chiropractor will also be
available.
Opening Ceremonies:
Opening ceremonies will take place immediately preceding the 12:00p.m. session on Friday,
May 6. Provinces are asked to select two representatives to participate in this short ceremony

Titanic - The Halifax Connection (3 hours)

No detailed visit to Halifax would be complete without a close look at this century’s most
significant marine disaster - the sinking of Titanic. Burial site of 150 victims of this ill-fated ocean
liner, Halifax was dubbed for a time as the “Funeral City”, and its inhabitants were greatly
commended on their response and compassion during the relief effort. Serving as a base for
the recovery operation, Halifax received the bodies of over 200 victims, and implemented the
numbered marking system used to help identify the unknown by their belongings.
This tour will encompass all aspects of Halifax’ connection to this devastating event, including
the historic pier from where the cable ships were dispatched to pick up victims; the church where
memorial services were held; the temporary morgue sites which housed the bodies of such
wealthy victims as John Jacob Astor; and Fairview Cemetery, where row upon row of identical
gravestones, laid out in the shape of a ship’s hull, mark the final resting place of 120 victims.
Hear the stories of two Halifax natives who traveled on Titanic, “Unsinkable Molly Brown’s” postTitanic visit, and stop at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, which houses an excellent
permanent exhibit on this disaster, featuring the world’s largest collection of wooden artifacts including a post from the famous Grand Staircase, and the only intact Titanic deck chair in the
world.

Halifax as you travel from the commercial downtown area, through the residential districts before
leaving town via the Northwest Arm. Travel along the Lighthouse Route, to take in the pictureperfect scenery of the South Shore. You will arrive approximately 45 minutes later at Peggy’s

Cove, which has been an artists’ and explorers’ paradise for well over 150 years. This village is
located right on the rugged Atlantic shoreline, standing on solid rock above the crashing surf.
The coastline is famous for pirates, shipwrecks, rumrunning and sunsets. Your guide will take
you on a walking tour of the moody cove and village, featuring the weatherworn fishing shacks
(complete with colourful buoys and lobster traps) still used by local fishermen, and awe-inspiring
rock formations that have been carved out by the glaciers of the last Ice Age. You will also view
the famous sculpture created by local resident William deGarthe – a beautiful granite carving
which depicts the life and people of the area. Afterwards you’ll have time to wander the rocks
and browse through the souvenir shops, before boarding your coach for the return trip to Halifax.

Gala des athlètes:
Samedi, le 7 mai, à l’Atlantica Hôtel. Il y aura un repas et un spectacle. Le souper sera à 7:15
p.m. suivi d’un spectacle. On demande aux provinces d’avoir deux chaperons présents
pendant le Gala. Les athlètes doivent présenter leur accréditation avant d’entrer au Gala. Le
transport aller-retour sera fourni. Le Gala terminera vers 11:00 p.m.

Services médicaux:
Un kiné, aussi bien qu’un technicien médical d’urgence sera présent pendant tous les sessions.
Un médecin de garde et un chiropracteur seront aussi disponibles.
Cérémonies d’ouverture
Aura lieu tout de suite après la session de 12h session vendredi, le 6 mai, 2011. On demande
aux provinces de choisir deux athlètes pour participer à une courte cérémonie

A Halifax pour la première fois? Intéresse d’apprendre plus au sujet de deux sites fameux en

Titanic – La connexion d’Halifax (3 heures)

Votre visite a Halifax n’est pas complète sans investiguer le désastre marine de l’atlantique –
c’est a dire la coulée du Titanic. Site d’enterrement de 150 victimes de ce désastre, Halifax
était connu pendant longtemps comme la ville de funérailles “Funeral City”, et ses habitants
étaient grandement loue pour leur réponse et leur compassion pendant la période de secours.
Servant comme la base des opérations du rétablissement, Halifax a reçu les cadavres de 200
victimes, et a implémenté un système numérique utilise afin d’aider à identifier les inconnus
par leurs effets personnels.

En autocoach et avec votre guide, observez les lumières d’Halifax du quartier du commerce
dans le centre ville, passez à travers les quartiers résidentiels avant de diriger vers le Northwest
Arm afin de prendre la beauté de la cote sud. 45 minutes plus tard vous arrivez a Peggy’s Cove,
un paradis pour des explorateurs depuis 150ans.
Le littoral déchiquète est célèbre pour les pirates, les naufrages, rumrunning (contrebande
d’alcool) et couchers de soleil. Votre guide vous inclura une visite à pied en le village, avec les
cabanes de pêche dégradé par les intempéries - encore utilisés par les pêcheurs locaux, et des

formations rocheuses impressionnantes qui ont été creusées par les glaciers de la dernière
période glaciaire. Vous verrez la sculpture célèbre créée par un résident local (William
deGarthe) - une belle sculpture de granit qui dépeint la vie et les gens de la région. Ensuite,
vous aurez le temps d’aller faire un tour des roches et des boutiques de souvenirs, avant de
retourner à Halifax.
