2iE: International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering
2iE trains entrepreneurial engineers specialised in the areas of Water and Sanitation, Energy and
Electricity, the Environment and Sustainable development, Civil Engineering and Mining, and
Management and Entrepreneurship.
Two of the UPVD’s professors have served as associate professors at the 2iE since 2009, the
West Africa Federal Institute based in Burkina Faso which trains engineers in civil engineering,
water treatment, biofuels and solar power. These PROMES professors also work closely
alongside corresponding research laboratories – the LESEE in particular. The various areas in
which joint initiatives are carried out include training (classes at the site), research (co-supervision
of theses, joint projects, on-site stays), assessing training programmes and research units and
student and staff exchanges.
