A mon grand regret je ne peux pas participer au Bal Hongrois ce soir.
Je remercie de tout coeur les organisateurs pour la confiance qu'ils
m'ont témoignée en sollicitant mon Haut Patronage. J’accepte
volontiers cet honneur. Nous les Hongrois, nous étions déjà
présents en Belgique fondée ultérieurement dans le cadre de la
Monarchie Austro-hongroise, pendant le règne de Marie-Thérèse
d’Autriche. Après la deuxième guerre mondiale et surtout après
1956 ce pays a accueilli plusieurs milliers de Hongrois. Moimême j’en faisais partie, j’y ai obtenu ma formation universitaire.
C’est ainsi qu’une petite société hongroise s’est formée en
Belgique, où actuellement un bon nombre de Hongrois représentent
notre nation et patrie dans la capitale de l’Union Européenne. Le Bal
Hongrois revêt une importance particulière pour présenter avec enthousiasme
notre culture, nos traditions et l’importance de notre pays. En outre, nous sommes capables de
prouver que bien que nous soyons originaires d’un petit pays, nous sommes devenus des
citoyens européens à part entière. Donc, "gaudeamus igitur" ! Pour terminer, je souhaite à tous
les convives une très belle soirée et que ce bal soit autant réussi que mémorable.

Dear Guests, the ten thousand Hungarians who live in Belgium (of which
about 3500 live in Brussels), maybe not be amongst the most numerous
nationalities here, but we play an important role in the life of the wider
community. Hungarian immigrants brought with them a positive attitude
to life and their centuries’ old culture and traditions. We have integrated
well in our host country, for example holding key positions in Belgian
society. We can be proud of our contribution which provides a positive
image of our native land to our fellow Europeans. Let me wish all of you,
wherever in the world you call home; an enjoyable evening delighting all
the senses and may you have an truly great Ball.

Tisztelt Bálozó Közönség! Egy amerikai filmben azt mondták, hogy az
ember kétszer izgul egy bálban: amikor maga először megy el, s amikor
sok évvel később a lányát kíséri el annak első báljára. Magam már elég
régen túlestem az első bálomon, Panni lányoméra pedig még várnom
kell néhány évet. Így nem izgalommal, csak jóleső várakozással
készültem a brüsszeli magyar bálra. Sokan élünk és dolgozunk ebben a
városban, akik személyesen nem ismerjük egymást, vagy ha futólag
találkoztunk, akkor hivatali szobákban, külföldi munkatársak között,
gyakran egymással is angolul beszélve. Itt most – bár nyilván vannak
külhoni barátok is velünk – mégis magunk vagyunk mi, belgiumi
magyarok. Ez a mi esténk, a mi bálunk, a mi rendezvényünk. Táncoljunk és érezzük jól
magunkat, gondoljunk azokra is, akiknek megsegítése a mai este nemes feladata, s az itt
született barátságok, ismeretségek segítsenek minket a hétköznapi munkánkban is! Brüsszel az
elmúlt években kicsit magyar várossá is vált, több ezer honfitársunk él itt, s ez a tavaszi bál a
belgiumi magyar élet szép tradíciójává vált.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we fondly remember the sixteen
year tradition of Hungarian Balls in Brussels that have
become an important symbol of solidarity in the Belgian
Hungarian Community. From its beginnings the Ball has
been integral part of Brussels high-society. This is splendid
opportunity for our compatriots, Brusselaars and fellow expats living and working in Brussels to meet, form new
acquaintances and friendships and for high class entertainment. It is also an opportunity to
contribute to charities as helping those less fortunate has also been another tradition of the Ball.
On behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Hungary I would like to express my sincere thanks
to the Patrons and the members of the Honorary and Organising Committees; whose hard work
has made tonight’s Ball possible, at a new time and in an exciting new venue. I wish everyone
an enjoyable evening. Have a very good time!

azért mi belgiumi magyarok külhoni barátaink társaságában ma este egy nemes hagyomány és
a megújulást hirdető vidám
rendezvény összefonódásával
köszöntjük a tavasz eljövetelét.

az év egyik legrangosabb
társadalmi eseménye többet kíván
mint önfeledt szórakozást; az ünnep akkor teljes ha azokra is gondolunk, akik nem élvezhetik az
önfeledt szórakozás örömeit ezért esténk jótékonysági bál is egyúttal. A jelenlévő diplomáciai,
gazdasági és kulturális élet kiválóságai nem csupán megtisztelik jelenlétükkel az eseményt,
hanem támogatják is a hozzá kapcsolódó jótékonysági akciót. Köszönjük, hogy csatlakoztak

J’ai le plaisir de pouvoir faire partie des personnalités du Haut Patronage de
l’un des événements les plus prestigieux touchant les Hongrois vivant à
Bruxelles. Comme les 12 bals précédents, en plus du divertissement, le Bal
Hongrois de cette année accorde aussi une grande importance à la
réalisation d’objectifs caritatifs. Le somptueux Château Sainte-Anne et ses
environs évoquent l’ambiance des bals d’autrefois de Budapest et de
Bruxelles. Je souhaite à tous les convives qu’ici, dans la capitale de
l’Europe, où la fête et la bonne ambiance sont des éléments vitaux, la
communauté hongroise et les amis hungarophiles passent ensemble une
soirée inoubliable. En remerciant l’enthousiasme et les efforts du Comité du Bal, j’espère que
cette belle tradition se maintiendra de longues années et que de nombreux bals hongrois se
tiendront encore au cœur de l’Europe.

Palotás - Opening dance

The Palotás or “PalaceDance” has its origins in the 15th century, when it was
performed in front of the King by young nobles. It comprises a dignified
flowing dance, the Andalgó, then a quicker section based on the Verbunkos. In
the 19th century it became the traditional opening dance at all formal balls.
The choreography was designed
by Áron Schmidt.
The steps and movements were taught by
Eszter Farkas and Zsuzsanna Dákai.
The music is from the Opera “Bánk Bán”
by Ferenc Erkel.

Életének utolsó
szerzeménye az
Anna-báli keringő.
E keringőt 1962ben játszottak
először
nyitótáncként a
hagyományos
díszpalotás mellett.

The talented young singer and pianist Tibor
Villmer debuted on stage as early as 2001 at the age
of 7. His favourite style is jazz, but he is equally
talented in classical music. Today he will perform
Rossini’s Cat Duet with his mother, the opera
singer Éva Nyakas. They will be accompanied by
the organist Paul de Lusignan.

A place where for 30 years people living at the margins of Belgian society, or
the just lonely, have met to receive emotional support and mutual help.
Együtt A Sérült Emberekért Alapítvány
The foundation Together for disabled people, supports intellectually disabled
young people in Szerencs, Hungary and the surrounding area. Their aim is to
increase quality of life by organising activities to empower these young people
and help them integrate into society.
Támasz Debrecen Közhasznú Egyesület
Support Debrecen Charity helps disadvantaged groups in society overcome
adversity and achieve their full potential. The Charity is based in Debrecen,
Hungary and concentrates on groups in that region.
The Organising Committee is proud to
contribute to charities working on behalf of
the disadvantaged in Belgium and Hungary.
We thank those who have already donated
with their reservation. Those who would still
like to contribute, can also do so at the Ball.
