DEAR ASAC DELEGATES,
WELCOME TO ASAC 2009
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
On behalf of the School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University, I am pleased to
welcome you to Niagara Falls for ASAC 2009. The theme of this year’s conference is “Creating
Knowledge in the New Economy.” Given recent events in the world, there is no doubt that we
are seeing a new economic paradigm and knowledge creation will be critical to success in these
circumstances. Our keynote speaker, Don Morrison, is Chief Operating Officer of Research in
Motion (RIM), a company that has been at the leading edge of knowledge creation for a
decade. This is one of the primary reasons for the company’s continued success in difficult
economic times. In addition to Mr. Morrison’s address at the Keynote Speaker Luncheon,
conference delegates will have the opportunity to hear from seven distinguished speakers in a
variety of disciplines.
ASAC 2009 was made possible by the hard work and dedication of various faculty and staff
members of the School of Business and Economics at Laurier. I’d particularly like to thank the efforts
of Sofy Carayannopolous and Chet Robie as well as staff members Susan Chilton, Melanie Barfoot,
Tabatha Dominguez, Adri Spyker, and Megan Harris. Without them, this conference would not be
nearly as successful as I expect it will be.
This year, we received nearly 500 paper, symposium, and workshop submissions across the 19
divisions. We also received over 50 submissions for the Case Track. In addition to the academic
program, we hope that you take advantage of what the Niagara Region has to offer. Not only
is the view of the Horseshoe Falls from the conference site hotels, the Sheraton on the Falls
and the Crowne Plaza, breathtaking, but there is plenty to do in Niagara Falls for all members of
the family. Take a trip on the Maid of the Mist, visit the huge indoor water park at the top of the
Crowne Plaza, and try some of the world renowned Niagara wines. You might even want to
take a side trip to beautiful Niagara on the Lake, where you can visit and get a tour of the
wineries or take in a play at the Shaw Festival. We hope you enjoy the conference and your
stay.
Finally, we would like to thank our sponsors for their generous support of the conference at a
time when many institutions are cutting back. Without them, this conference would not be
possible.
We would also like to recognize the people who worked hard to put together the academic side of
the program: the Academic Reviewers, Program Chairs, and Division Chairs. The Doctoral
Consortium should provide an excellent experience for our future academics. Thanks go to Heather
MacDonald for her efforts in that regard.

AUX DÉLÉGUÉS DE L’ASAC,
BIENVENUE À LA CONFÉRENCE ASAC 2009
REMERCIEMENTS
Prenez place à bord du « Maid of the Mist », visitez l'important parc
