PETROLEUM GEOSCIENCES APPLIED GRADUATE STUDIES Embrace the international world of geosciences and exploration Language: Duration: Degree: English 16 months Engineering degree / Master's degree “Continuous” or “alternating school / company” program T he world demand for hydrocarbons is constantly growing. The oil and gas industry is facing a key challenge: discover new reservoirs and better understand the architecture of existing reservoirs in order to optimize their development. Two professions are vital to this challenge: geologists and geophysicists. The IFP School Petroleum Geosciences program was designed with this in mind. Students are trained in new concepts, new technologies and new tools in geology and geophysics, at the level of both sedimentary basins and reservoirs. Our academic approach focuses on shaping professionals. You will learn your job from world-class speakers from industry and applied research. You will be able to implement cutting-edge technologies (acquisition and processing of seismic and well data, sedimentary basin evaluation, reservoir modeling Find out more: www.ifp-school.com and characterization, etc.) and the methodologies needed to make decisions for exploration. All these skills can also be applied to underground storage (gas or CO2), geothermics or civil engineering. Our course content changes as innovations occur in industry. For this purpose, we provide you with all the necessary tools: case studies based on real data provided by industry, use of industrial software, and the organization of numerous field trips in geology and geophysics. The two program majors (geology and geophysics) are organized in parallel, but many courses are common to the two, allowing students to obtain an understanding of the other field. In addition to the constant use of English (the language our classes are taught in), you will conduct work and projects with students from many different origins and cultures (2/3 of our students are foreign and come from many countries throughout the world). This also helps to prepare you for industries that are by nature international. On completion of your program, you will have numerous opportunities for an international career, either in national or international oil and gas companies, or with service providers (oil and gas supply service sectors). JOB OPPORTUNITIES 34% French oil & gas companies Oil & gas equipment and services 25% Foreign oil companies (private) 18% 15% 8% National oil companies Others PETROLEUM GEOSCIENCES APPLIED GRADUATE STUDIES Students in this program (around 40) are almost all sponsored by companies (through sponsorships, apprenticeships, or study leave) that finance their living expenses during the academic period and contribute towards their tuition. PROGRAM CONTENT This program is divided into 3 major themes: Geology Major Among these companies, the following were IFP School partners in recent years (non-exhaustive list): BP, BRGM, Cepsa, CGGVeritas, ExxonMobil, GDF Suez, IFP, Ifremer, Lundin, Nioc, Onhym, Petroleum Geo-Services, Shell, StatoilHydro, Total, etc. Geophysics Major Geology, geophysics and exploration tools • Seismic methods • Drilling and well-site geology • Well-logging - Evaluation of formations • Multi-scale geological analysis • Seismic methods • Well-logging - Evaluation of formations Seismic interpretation and basin evaluation Professionals • Advanced basin analysis and evaluation 37% 17% • Seismic interpretation • Basin analysis and evaluation • Advanced seismic interpretation Characterization of reservoir Apprentices 1% 45% • Introduction to Petroleum Geosciences • Structural analysis • Reservoir engineering - Production • Clastic deposits • Carbonate deposits • Advanced reservoir characterization and modeling Scholarship recipients • Reservoir characterization and modeling • Advanced seismic methods • Reservoir geophysics • Advanced reservoir geophysics Courses common to both majors Sponsored (continuous) PROGRAM SCHEDULE The two examples of schedules shown below correspond to the most frequently encountered cases for students in this program: 16-month continuous program for students with a 4- or 5-year engineering degree, and alternating school / company 19-month program for students with a 5-year engineering degree. There are other possible cases as well: • 11-month continuous program for students with a 5-year engineering degree who have already done work in a company for at least 4 months that is validated by IFP School at admission; Continuous program 16 months Alternating school / company program 19 months IFP School Company Find out more: www.ifp-school.com • 22-month alternating school / company program for students in their second to last year of a major European school or university having signed an agreement with IFP School.
