EMISTE - European Master's degree through In-Service Training on European and
global dimension in education
DESCRIPTION:
''EMISTE-European Master's degree through In-Service Training on European and global
dimension in education'' is a project that sets to provide an integrated curriculum for an MA
degree for teachers and staff. The course is supposed to provide teachers with the required
skills for the integration of the European dimension into the overall pedagogical policy plan
of the school, into the curriculum (independently of their subject) and into the initial and inservice training of teachers. The MA will enable teachers to become highly qualified
Comenius promoters who will be able to involve themselves in the promotion, evaluation
and dissemination of the pedagogical results and outcomes of Comenius projects.
The first year will be devoted to the elaboration of the first three modules of the course.
These modules will be implemented and evaluated during the second year, and other
modules will be developed. The third year will then focus on dissemination and evaluation
of the work.
The target group consists of teachers in general, but, more particularly, teachers who have
a special interest and even experience in European collaboration.
The outcome of the project will be a jointly developed MA curriculum accredited by ATEE
and recognised by partner institutions. The course will be delivered as a series of modules
focusing on different areas of the European dimension, as well as providing the necessary
information and skills to undertake co-operative work.

ESEP - Development of a Cd-rom applying a didactical sport games concept to
teach basketball and handball
DESCRIPTION:
Le projet vise le développement d'un CD-Rom interactif dont le but est d'améliorer la qualité
des jeux sportifs. Le CD-Rom pourra être utilisé dans la formation initiale et continue des
enseignants. L'obejctif est l'élaborarion d'un matériel améliorant les méthodolgies
d'enseignement des jeux sportifs de façon innovante et l'enseignement des jeux sportifs.
Après les enseignants et les formateurs d'enseignants, le second groupe cible sont les
élèves et les étudiants qui pourront utiliser le CD-Rom. L'objectif est d'améliorer le
processus d'apprentissage des jeux sportifs sur la base des visualisations interactives et
des évaluations.
Le troisième groupe cible sont les collaborateurs de la communauté locale. L'objectif par
là est d'améliorer les méthodologies de l'enseignement des jeux sportifs.
Dans une première phase un concept méthodologique sera élaboré, dans les phases
suivantes ce concept sera adapté au basketball et au handball.
Toutes les phases seront testées dans les pays participants et évaluées par un groupe
d'experts. Le CD-Rom pourra être intégré dans tous les niveaux de l'enseignement.

Building Bridges in the Multicultural European Classroom
DESCRIPTION:
Community - Diversity - Communication Building Bridges in the Multicultural European
Classroom is a project on intercultural education and (via) multimedia. Its objectives are:
- to enable schools, teachers, pupils to develop intercultural methods to improve
knowledge, understanding, and tolerance in and between multilingual and multicultural
young people.
- to enable three different area/schools to use multimedia as a catapult for a better future
for socially disadvantaged groups, immigrants, gypsies,
- to enable young immigrants to increase self-esteem by acquiring an extended
multimedia curriculum,
The target group is formed by young people ranging 14-24 years.
First year activities will focus on a group of 45 pupils who will be educated as peer
teachers both for multimedia and intercultural competencies. The second year the group
will grow to approximately 100 of pupils and the third year will focus at the institutional
level. Multimedia is seen as a means towards intercultural education and a goal in itself.
Multimedia centres in each of the schools involved is the framework for many aspects of
the process as well as for the 3 multimedia-end products planned.The project intends also
to set-up a web site, meetingpoint, teachers-conferences, homepage containing products
as well as a process-CDrom.
The countries involved in the project are DK, ES and SV.

DESCRIPTION:
The objectives of the PROMISE (the PROject Method In School projects through Elearning) project are to offer a structured and tested method, make it more widely used
and at the same time combine different uses of the Internet to support the professional
development (E-learning) of teachers and the learning outcome of their students.
Technology will be implemented and used according to didactic considerations and
PROMISE will make downloadable resources from the European SchoolNet website
available for all teachers.
All content and services will be developed and customised on a multi-lingual technical
platform on the European SchoolNet. The project will demonstrate how on-line courses
and mixed approaches material can be used to qualify teachers, and how they can benefit
from using a structured method to achieve educational and other goals in different age
groups/subjects.
The Project method will be used as the overall method combined with an ongoing internal
evaluation to promote the possibilities of creating contents and framework for E-learning for
both teachers and students. The Project method possibilities of creating contents and

in the classroom envisages to enforce interdisciplinary activities, student centred learning,
and reinforces the democratic process in learning and teaching. The activities will form a
useful platform for the collaborative work in cross-curricular topics worked upon in

DESCRIPTION:
Ce projet a pour objectif de développer des produits de formation initiale et continue pour
permettre aux enseignants de mettre a profit les rencontres d'élèves du secondaire ou de
l'enseignement professionnel (échanges, correspondance traditionnelle ou par courrier
électronique) pour une meilleure compréhension de la dimension interculturelle de
l'apprentissage des langues.
Ce projet, coordonné par le Goethe institut, réunit des universités, des associations
d'enseignants et un institut de formation.
Il a pour objectif de développer un module de formation et un manuel pour la mise à profit
des rencontres d'élèves dans le processus d'acquisition des compétences linguistiques. Il
cible dans un premier temps les langues du partenariat, à savoir DE, DK, FI, CZ, NL, ES
mais devrait être applicable à n'importe quelle langue.

DESCRIPTION:
''KIKO: Optimisation of the access at school - A contribution to the enactment of the
Convention on the Rights of the Child at school'' is a project involving DE, FR, UK and NL.
The participating institutions plan to check their national concepts and modules in order to
use them in a common - international - conception of a school, based on the Convention
on the Rights of the Child. At the end of the project this concept will be presented in the
form of an international in-service training course for teachers.
The project plans to hold conceptual work meetings with the different partner institutions,
to elaborate this concept, to find ways to evaluate it and to develop in service training
programmes for teachers. They will have several meetings on a national and international
level to learn about other experiences and to become critical about their own system.
Each year an international working group will focus on a specific subject.
The knowledge, abilities and insights acquired in international meetings will be reported
back to national work groups, which will discuss and disseminate these results and report
at the next international meeting. Modules and concepts developed on a national level will
be reviewed by the international project group and selected for implementation in all project
schools. This will allow an evaluation of the applicability and use on a transnational level
while considering the Rights of the Child Convention. These results will again be made
available on a European level. Through this procedure the project hopes to contribute to a
harmonisation of national education systems in Europe with respect to the specificities
within the countries.''

MEMO - Entwicklung mehrsprachiger Module für den Fachunterricht - ein Baustein
für die europäische Lehrerbildung
DESCRIPTION:
The project (MEMO) involves teacher training institutions in DE, FR, IT, AT (x2) and the
Goethe-Institut, London. It aims to develop a model and materials for the teaching of
'content' subjects in learners' foreign languages (DE, FR, FR, IT, ES).
The target groups are the teachers themselves, and pupils at primary and lower secondary
levels.
The 'content' subjects to be targeted by the project include: history, geography, social
sciences, biology, mathematics, music, art and sport.
Non-subject-specific modules will also be developed for use across the curriculum. Four
meetings per annum, each lasting several days, are envisaged in order to coordinate tasks
and address key didactic issues. The importance of the work of subteams on their home
ground is stressed. Development and evaluation will be conducted through seminars,
workshops, trial lessons, sitting in on classes. Evaluation will be on-going, involving
discussions, interviews, video-recordings and teaching units. There will be close
cooperation and regular exchanges of materials amongst the partners. Communication will
also be via internet, phone and video-conferencing. Materials are to be produced in print
form (hand-outs), on video and for the internet.

DESCRIPTION:
''MaMaEuSch - Management Mathematics for European Schools'' sets to change the way
mathematics is taught by using the area of management to show the applicability of
school mathematics. The approach is to develop teaching material and course
presentations for student teachers and for continuing education of active teachers. Both
groups will learn to model real-world problems taken from industry and society.
The activities will focus on developing multilingual teaching material for project-oriented
teaching and on testing these materials in courses for student teachers (pre-service level)
and for in-service teachers at national and international levels.
The target groups will be students, future teachers and in-service teachers.
The expected outputs include: multilingual teaching material; internet teaching aids;
presentation material for courses/workshops for both teachers and future teachers. These
will contain experiences with different mathematical modelling approaches to solve realworld problems.

BWO - Lehrerfortbildung: Berufswahlorientierung und Berufliche Integration von
Jugendlichen
DESCRIPTION:
The two-year project will develop a concept for in-service training which enables teachers
to give effective career counselling to their pupils. Such counselling is also intended to
help pupils integrate into the labour market.
The target groups are teachers in lower and upper secondary schools.
The concept contains five modules:
- Research findings and case studies about how boys and girls plan their careers and how
they chose their professions
- The labour market and vocational training opportunities in Europe
- The technological change and its impact on vocational qualifications
- Specific pedagogical measures for career counselling of pupils who are socially
disadvantaged or with special educational needs
- Development of school programmes for career counselling
The concept will be tested in Germany and results published for dissemination purposes.

pour l'intégration de l'idée des Droits Humaines dans les programmes d'étude techniques.
Les partenaires élaboreront un cours de formation continue '' Ambassadeurs des Droits
Humaines '' aux enseignants des écoles professionnelles pour transmettre leurs

DESCRIPTION:
MOBIDIC is a three-year project that aims to develop didactic modules for initial and inservice training which promote bilingual teaching of subject areas in history, geography
and social sciences.
The main product is a Comenius course.
The partnership plans to undertake the following activities:
- analysis of the state of the art (materials, good practice)
- contributions towards a (still missing) didactic theory of bilingual teaching
- development, regional piloting and evaluation of the training modules
- implementation and evalution of the transnational course
- dissemination of project results
The partners hope that multiperspective attitudes and European citizenship are promoted
through bilingual teaching language acquisition.

minorities. For this target group there are no specific teacher training programmes with a

The partners plan to undertake the following activities:
- analysis of existing literature and materials
- action research
- development and testing of innovative materials
- transnational comparison of concepts and experiences
- development of recommendations for inital and in-service teacher training
The main products/outcomes of the project include: written guidelines; teaching and
learning materials; workshops; a publication; and a final symposium.
Three years are foreseen for the project.

DESCRIPTION:
The project aims at making teachers aware of the changing role of parents with a view of
increasing autonomy of schools. Often parents are still primarily seen as clients and not
as responsible partners, professionals, potential co-developers and evaluators of schools.
The project is designed for three years. It sets out to target the following specific
objectives:
- to improve cooperation between schools and parents to allow the latter to take an active
role in the development of school quality and to support children's responsibility for selfguided learning
- to compare national variations in practice regarding the role of parents in (pre-) primary
and secondary schools in intercultural contexts
- to collect and document examples of good practice
- to point out areas where changes and measures of support are required
- to develop materials for initial and in-service training
The materials to be produced include a CD-ROM and accompanying booklets. The
materials will be disseminated at national workshops.

Gewaltprävention durch Verbesserung der Erziehungspartnerschaften

DESCRIPTION:
The project focuses on the prevention of violence through further cooperation between
parents and teachers and through training programmes for teachers.
Crucial benchmarks in the three-year working period of the project include:
- collection of local information and scrutiny of particularly positive/negative cases
- investigation of local conditions for violence in schools, in the respective region
- development of adequate measures to be taken in order to: improve parents' level of
information; support joint projects of teachers and parents and of intercultural projects;
present eduactional contracts and ways of working with them; strengthen children's and
parents' social competencies.
To achieve these aims and objectives, the partnership will hold a number of local, regional
and transnational meetings and conferences. A brochure and a DVD film will document the
projects results.

Le projet '' Mensch-Denk-Mal (MDM); Gemeinsames Erinnern: Auseinandersetzung mit
Kriegsdenkmälern und Kriegsspuren in Europa '' a pour objectif de contribuer au
développement de la citoyenneté européenne. Ce sera atteint par l'élaboration de la
dimension européenne dans le concept d'histoire à l'exemple de l'analyse historique et
artistique des conflits historiques. Une documentation des topographies des monuments
et des manuels pédagogiques (méthodologies et stratégies d'enseignement) pour
l'utilisation en classe seront élaborés et testés. Ces matériels pourront être utilisés aussi
dans la formation initiale et continue des enseignants.
Dans la dernière phase de la réalisation, un monument européen commun sera élaboré
avec la coopération des artistes, des enseignants et des élèves.
A la fin de la troisième année, un cours Comenius sera organisé.

The project targets teachers and student teachers who teach subject areas like history
and geography in the medium of a foreign language.
Acadamic research and good practice at schools are to be interconnected.
The project is designed to last three years and intends to carry out the following main
activities:
- national and transnational meetings, face-to-face as well as virtual
- planning and implementation of in-service training
- implementation of student and staff mobility
- development, evaluation and dissemination of didactic materials
The concrete outcomes of the project include: a handbook on bilingual teaching; a second
volume with didactic materials; a Comenius 2.2 course; national web sites; and an internet
platform for a transnational ''Virtual Workshop'' which enables participating teachers to
exchange good practice, present results and store relevant information.

Ja-Ling. Janua Linguarum - Das Tor zu Sprachen - La porte des langues
DESCRIPTION:
Ja-Ling ist ein Konzept zur Sensinilisierung fuer andere Sprachen, das zu
Sprachlicher und interkultureller Bewusstheit fuehrt. Es richtet sich an Lernende der
Primar- und
Sekundarstufe, aber auch an Erwachsene (DaF / DaZ, FaF / FaZ usw.). Gleichzeitig bildet
es
Lehrpersonen fort.
Die Lernenden entdecken und vergleichen eine Vielzahl verschiedener Sprachen : grosse
Europaeische und kleine Sprachen, andere Sprachen der Welt.
Unterrichtsziele :
- Interesse fuer die eigene(n) und andere Sprachen ;
- Positive Einstellungen gegenueber Sprachenvielfalt, Mehrsprachigkeit und Sprechern ;
- Dadurch auf indirektem Weg gegen Fremdenfeindlichkeit und Rassismus wirken ;
- Metasprachliche Faehigkeiten, die Fremd- und Schulsprachenlernen foerdern ;
- Methodenkompetenz und selbstgesteuertes Arbeiten beim sprachlichen Lernen.
Hauptaktivitaeten der Projektgruppe sind die Anpassung vorhandener, zum Teil im
Rahmen frueherer Sokrates-Programme gewonnener Ergebnisse an neue (nationale u.a.)
Kontexte
Sowie die Neuentwicklung von Lehrmaterialien und Anleitungen fuer die Lehrerfortbildung.
Das
Geschieht durch bi- oder trilaterale Kleingruppe und durch Austausch auf jaehrlichen
Konferenzen.
In vielen Laendern Europas wird so die an Language Awareness anknuepfende Idee neu
eingefuehrt
Und fruchtbar gemacht.
Als Ergebnisse entwickeln wir Printmedien und elektronische Medien mit Ja-LingUnterichtsmaterialien fuer die beteiligten Laender sowie Anleitungen fuer Lehrpersonen und
Evaluationsinstrumente. Der Ansatz soll in die Lehrerfortbildung und spaeter in die
Curricula der
Laender aufgenommen werden.

L'objectif du projet''SYNTHESI; nouveau lieu de coopération pour l'éducation européenne
aujourd'hui'' est de développer un nouveau modèle éducatif qui se base sur l'évolution
personnelle et sociale de chaque personne pour promouvoir la dimension européenne. Le
projet veut permettre le développement chez les enseignants de 'l'auto-connaissance
critique' et de la critique active des informations émises par la société afin de conduire à
une meilleure compréhension de la dimension européenne de l'éducation.
L'objectif est de parvenir à la mise en oeuvre d'une formation continue pour des
enseignants voulant appliquer cette approche. Le projet sera présenté sous forme d'une
pièce de théâtre la première année; dans le courant de la 2e année l'obejctif est de créer
des centres de ressources et de formation pour diffuser la méthode et la promouvoir.

Action expérimentale d'une Formation-Recherche pour les enseignants ayant des

DESCRIPTION:
Beaucoup d'enseignants éprouvent des difficultés dans la gestion de leur classe et
manquent de références susceptibles de les aider à faire face aux situations particulières
que sont :la passivité des élèves, l'échec scolaire, la violence .
C'est à partir de ce constat que sont définis les objectifs de ce projet :
- l'amélioration de l'action des enseignants au moyen d'une formation visant au
développement de stratégies pédagogiques
- la production de connaissances concernant les effets de ce dispositif de foramtion
- la création d'un réseau de personnes -ressources qui multipliera l'action de formation
Les groupes cible seront les enseignants du second degré des établissements scolaires
des trois pays impliqués
Pour atteindre ces objectifs, seront développées les activités suivantes:
- mise en place d'un dispositif de formation
- recherche-évaluation sur les effets de la formation sur les pratiques professionnelles des
enseignants
- diffusion des résultats de la recherche
- création et suparvision d'un réseau de personnes -ressources
La réalisation de ce projet permettra de :
- dégager des connaissances sur les conditions d'un accompagnement( formation initiale
et continue, aide aux établissements scolaires ) qui puissent favoriser l'adaptation des
enseignants aux transformations de leur lmétier et prévenir le repli sur une crispation
identitaire
- mettre en oeuvre un réseau de personnes-ressources qui poursuivra cette action de

DESCRIPTION:
The ''German Hands-on Modern Information Technologies Teacher Training Scheme''
(GEH-MIT) project aims at the development of a course and the respective course
material, offering training opportunities both for German language teachers in schools and
student teachers at language institutes of Higher Education, with the main subject being
the application of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the everyday
teaching.
The project is based on close cooperation between school teachers and teacher trainers,
and addreses the needs of teachers of German as a Foreign Language and those of the
respective student teachers and their educators.
GEH-MIT project aims at enhancing teachers' professional skills in the important field of
European languages, both in ICT application in everyday teaching and in modern
pedagogical approaches, by implementing a new methodology and by designing a new
curriculum of training and training material.
This new methodology has four constituent parts: the creation of a link between theory and
practice; the continuous evaluation, design and redesign of the produced training material;
the adoption of a hands-on approach to the training curricula in modern technology; and
the active participation of the teachers in the design of the training material.
Thematically, the project aims to go beyond traditional approaches, which focus on simple
provision of computer knowledge. The main outcome will be a modern and flexible training
scheme and materials for teachers.

'' El euro : proyecto para la ciudadanía europea. Módulos formativos para el profesorado ''
(l'euro : un projet pour impulser la citoyenneté européenne; des modules de formation
continue pour les enseignants) entend élaborer un matériel pédagogique et didactique
autour de l'euro qui pourra être utilisé dans les écoles et dans le cadre de formations
continues pour les enseignants du primaire et du secondaire. Le projet, prévu pour une
durée de trois ans, est promu par des centres de formation d'Espagne, de Belgique, de
France, d'Italie et du Portugal. Il s'appuie également sur un réseau de vingt-quatre écoles
qui participent actuellement à des Projets Educatifs Européens dans le cadre de l'Action 1
de Comenius.
La première année de réalisation concerne le développement d'un CD ROM interactif sur
l'euro, l'organisation de formations locales aux Nouvelles Technologies de l'Information et
l'élaboration de matériel pédagogique. Au cours de la deuxième année, les modules de
formation seront élaborés et expérimentées dans les écoles participantes surrtout au
niveau national. La troisième année sera consacrée à la préparation et à la réalisation de
formations continues dans le cadre de Comenius 3.2, ainsi qu'à l'élaboration d'un manuel
et d'une page Web pour la dissémination du projet.

'' Astronomía en el Nuevo Milenio : Que tipo de educación debe proporcionar la Escuela
Europea '' (l'Astronomie dans le nouveau millénaire : quelle sorte d'éducation doit offrir
l'école européenne) entend développer un modèle européen commun pour la formation des
enseignants du secondaire en astronomie, sur le rôle joué par cette discipline dans
l'histoire de la culture européenne et dans les systèmes scolaires actuels. Le projet,
promu par un partenariat issu d'Espagne, Allemagne, Finlande, Lituanie et Portugal,
s'articule autour des activités suivantes : (1) analyser l'enseignement de l'astronomie dans
les curricula de l'enseignement secondaire, (2) sélectionner les thèmes prioritaires que
l'enseignement de l'astronomie devrait inclure, (3) Réaliser du matériel pédagogique et
l'expérimenter dans les centres partenaires, (4) offrir des formations scientifiques et
pédagogiques dans le cadre de Comenius 3.2 et (5) promouvoir la dimension européenne
à travers l'enseignement de l'astronomie (observation du firmament, histoire de cette
discipline scientifique et développements actuels liées au travail de l'Agence Spatiale

entend développer des outils pédagogiques sur l'euro qui s'adressent aux enseignants et

de formation autour de la monnaie, l'échange et la mobilité, l'Europe et la citoyenneté. Des

Compendium:
IDEAS (Intercultural Development of Education and Skills) is a project between seven
institutions which operate in the context of formal and informal education of five countries:
Spain, Italy, Portugal, England and Poland. The main objective of IDEAS is to create a
new formative model in the area of psycho-pedagogy for the personnel of the education
centres which will help them engage more effectively in conflict resolution. With this
objective in sight, the project will generate pedagogical resources which will help the
students understand better the importance of social tolerance.
The groups who will benefit from this project include: 500-1000 children and youths who
are going through some kind of educational experience in Portugal, Poland, England,
Spain and Italy; 200-300 people who work in these educational centres (teachers and
other professionals)

1. Objetivos

The main objectives of the project include:
- To address and possibly reduce the problems of absenteeism and students low
academic results.
- To help families understand the new values in a changing world.
- To improve the participation of the parents in the school.

Following extensive research around examples of European good practices, the partners
intend to publish a guide book on European best practices and design a transnational

DESCRIPTION:
''Preventdif: Prévention précoce des difficultés d'adaptation et d'apprentissage''. Ce projet
se propose d'établir un réseau européen de cours de formation initiale et continue pour le
personnel éducatif des enfants du niveau pré-primaire. Le but du réseau est de mettre en
¿uvre une politique de prévention précoce de l'échec scolaire s'adressant à tous les élèves
du niveau pré-primaire mais en mettant l'accent sur les enfants ayant des besoins
spéciaux. Le projet se base sur l'expertise de la recherche antérieure (Munich, décembre
1995, séminaire et l'agence européenne pour l'enseignement spécial) que les partenaires
se proposent d'étendre et de diffuser.
Les objectifs consistent donc à développer des outils pédagogiques novateurs pour la
formation initiale et continue des enseignants du niveau pré-primaire et à redéfinir les
perspectives théoriques qui régissent généralement le domaine concerné.
Pour la première année, divers séminaires entre les partenaires sont envisagés afin de
collecter diverses expériences et politiques dans différents pays européens. La publication
des expériences les plus innovantes dans le domaine de l'intervention précoce est prévue.
Des mini-séminaires par vidéoconférence prépareront le séminaire international qui aura
lieu en octobre 2000 en France ; une page web sera également créée et un lien avec
l'action 1 de Comenius est aussi prévu. La deuxième année commencera avec un
séminaire international à Paris et les conclusions de ce séminaire seront publiées sur CDRom. Des modules seront préparés et testés pour la mise en ¿uvre du cours la troisième
année.

ans)

Enseigner l'Union Européenne en Europe. Création d'un CD Rom pour les
Enseignants en Sciences Sociales
DESCRIPTION:
L'objectif du projet ''Enseigner l'Union européenne en Europe : création d'un CD-Rom pour
les enseignements en sciences sociales'' a comme objectif de réaliser sur trois ans un
CD-Rom, outil de formation continue, disponible dans toutes les langues de l'Union
Européenne, destiné à servir d'outil de formation pour les enseignants en général et plus
particulièrement pour ceux en charge des sciences sociales dans l'enseignement primaire
et secondaire des 15 États membres.
La production devrait substituer à une vision nationale de ces enseignements, une vision
plus européenne destinée à conforter une éducation à une citoyenneté que l'on veut
européenne et appuyée sur les sciences sociales.
La réalisation du CD-Rom partira d'une enquête sur les perceptions de l'Europe d'élèves de
divers pays européens qui permettra de mettre au jour les lacunes, les erreurs, les a priori
des élèves de 8 à 18 ans de 5 pays - FR, UK, IT, ES et PT.
La réalisation s'appuiera aussi sur une analyse comparative des divers curricula des
sciences sociales des pays engagés dans la recherche pour faire émerger des
propositions communes de progressions, de séquences autour de quelques concepts
déterminants comme par exemple la perception de l'euro. La réalisation intégrera des
analyses des travaux scientifiques de différents chercheurs européens provenant de divers
pays européens. Le CD-Rom comportera des images, des séquences de vidéo etc. à côté
de documents plus classiques. Le produit final sera donc un CD-Rom dans les 11 langues
officielles de la l'Union européenne qui peut être utilisé dans la formation continue; le projet
organisera une formation continue européenne et probablement plusieurs formations
continues nationales à partir du CD-Rom.

Ce projet propose de bâtir des Outils de Formation et un cours européen pour des

- ensuite d'alimenter et de faire vivre à distance une ''Librairie Virtuelle'' composée des
différents livres électroniques élaborés par les partenaires européens, livres qui peuvent
être empruntés à distance par internet, commentés par les lecteurs, retournés aux
auteurs, replacés dans la librairie.Le matériel pédagogique et les outils de formation ainsi
produits feront l'objet d'un support de cours en ligne sur internet dans un portail Web déjà
existant (www.ecoleurope. net ), d'une version papier et d'un cdrom permettant un
apprentissage autonome. Ils seront aussi la base d'un cours de formation continue de 5
jours.
Le projet , prévu sur 2 années , est destiné à concevoir, construire, expérimenter
localement des modules de formation à destination d'enseignants du primaire et du

Aider les enseignants débutants à prendre en compte les besoins éducatifs

DESCRIPTION:
L'évolution des politiques éducatives de l'ensemble des pays de l'union européenne amène
à scolariser dans une même école tous les élèves.Répondre à cette mission suppose que
les enseignants bénéficient d'une formation intiale et continue adaptées. Cela suppose
qu'ils puissent identifier les difficultés que rencontrent leurs élèves , les analyser et trouver
des réponses pertinentes.C'est dans cette optique que se place ce projet , et il se
propose donc :
- d'établir un état des lieux comparatif concernant le contexte légal et institutionnel relatif à
la politique d'inclusion mise en place dans les établissements scolaires,
- d'étudier la place que réservent les plans de formation intiale et continue des enseignants
quant à la prise en compte des besoins spécifiques des élèves .
Dans un second temps une recherche action sera engagée, elle donnera lieu à:
- un recueil des données concernant les attitudes préalables des enseignants,
- une observation des pratiques des enseignants débutants dans leur classe ,
- un accompagnement pour aider les enseignants à identifier et analyser leurs difficultés
quant à la prise en compte de l'hétérogénéité des groupes d'élèves .
A partir de ces constats sera définie une proposition conjointe de projet de formation , en
termes de contenus et de modalités.
Les résultats et le déroulement du projet seront évalués en utilisant une'' méthode de
triangulation'', en référence avec les objectifs et les critères préalablement définis.

School disaffection : réponses pédagogiques aux problèmes du décrochage
scolaire et de la déscolarisation.
DESCRIPTION:
Le nombre croissant d'élèves développant des conduites de rupture scolaires et sociales a
fait de la gestion du décrochage scolaire une préoccupation politique majeure.
Les institutions scolaires et les instances politiques sont aujourd'hui à la recherche de
réponses efficaces à ce phénomène.Face à cette demande institutionnelle de plus en plus
forte , l'objectif de ce projet est de travailler sur la dimension pédagogique du décrochage
et de la rupture scolaires : la question est de caractériser les liens d'interdépendance
entre le contexte éducatif ( statut de l'élève dans l'établissement, situations
d'apprentissage proposées, vie scolaire, relations entre les jeunes et les adultes,
réglement intérieur, usage des récompenses et sanctions ...) et le comportement des
élèves face aux apprentissages .
Grâce aux réseaux expérimentaux d'écoles, les moyens méthodologiques et
pédagogiques ( les bonnes pratiques susceptibles d'améliorer le désir de réussite et le
niveau d'engagement des élèves ) seront mis en lumière .
Ensuite sera bâti un cours européen à distance, de niveau universitaire, au service des
enseignants, diffusé en trois langues ( EN, FR, ES ). Le but de ce cours sera d'outiller les
enseignants pour leur permettre d'entreprendre dans leurs établissements des recherchesactions en vue de restaurer un niveau de motivation et d'engagement des élèves
compatible avec les exigences de l'école .Ce cours s'inscrira dans un ensemble de
publications ,dans les trois langues, relatives aux résultats des recherches conduites
dans le cadre du projet.

Module Europe
DESCRIPTION:
L'objectif de ce projet est de concevoir, réaliser et mettre en place un ''Module Europe''
commun à sept régions européennes .
Il s'agit de rédiger un cours sur l'Europe qui s'adressera aux professeurs des pays de la
Loire ( France), du Shelswig Holstein(Allemagne), de l'Emilie-Romagne ( Italie ), de la
Scanie (Suède), du Balaton (Hongrie), de la République d'Urlande et de l'Irlande du Nord .
A l'aide du matériel didactique qui sera réalisé : document papier et CD-rom, 70
professeurs répartis sur ces régions bénéficieront de la même formation.
Dans un second temps, ils formeront à leur tour, quelque 7 000 jeunes.
A ce stade, une extension du projet sera mise en place, par la réalisation d'un
enseignement à distance, dans le cadre d'une université virtuelle.
En terme de résultat, le projet porte principalement sur l'intégration du module dans le
cadre de la formation initiale ou continue des enseignants, puis dans la mise en place , au
sein du cursus scolaire des lycées, de ce'' module Europe'' commun à sept régions
européennes.

La formation du personnel éducatif pour les enfants et les jeunes tsiganes
DESCRIPTION:
Etant donné l'importance numérique des communautés tsiganes ( dix millions de
personnes en Europe dont la moitié d'âge scolaire ),la situation difficile qui est la leur , et
la pénurie des ressources disponibles, on doit se donner tous les moyens pour que le
travail entrepris par les uns et les autres se déroule dans les meilleures conditions
d'économie ,en termes de financement, d'énergie, et de temps, sans que la qualité des
contenus soit affectée. La formation du personnel éducatif demeure une priorité; elle n'a
pas encore reçu toute l'attention nécessaire, alors qu'il s'agit d'un levier essentiel pour
améliorer les conditions de scolarisation.
Le projet vise à répondre à ces exigences , tant dans le contenu que dans le
développement de synergies entre les instituts de formation. Il propose donc de relier ces
instituts et de les relier avec l'ensemble de ceux qui sont concernés: administrateurs,
formateurs, enseignants, et autres personnels éducatifs.
Il s'agit, pour cela, d'élaborer un répertoire européen des formations proposées aux
enseignants et autres personnels d'éducation, répertoire actualisable, disponible sur un
site web, mis à jour en temps réel.
Il s'agit aussi, après une analyse des besoins , de mettre au point des modules de
formation,en reliant des formations existantes , ce qui permet d'augmenter leur potentiel,
et en faisant des propositions de création de modules à dimension européenne. Les
modules , testés, seront proposés sous des formes diverses, la flexibilité étant
indispensable ( par internet, par d'autres vecteurs d'enseignement à distance, par la
diffusion de document sur support papier ... )

L'objectif du projet est de promouvoir la mobilité des futurs enseignants de l'enseignement
agricole européen afin d'améliorer la formation initiale des futurs enseignants pour
développer leur sens critique et la connaissances des autres systèmes éducatifs pour
enrichir leurs méthodes d'enseignement grâce au transfer d'expériences pédagogiques
internationales.
Durant les trois années du projet, les partenaires organiseront des activités de mobilités
d'une durée d'un mois pour les futurs enseignants et des cours de formation continue pour
les formateurs des établissements partenaires. Deux publications seront élaborées, un
manuel pédagogique et méthodologique d'après les expériences des échanges et un
recueil des rapports des étudiants participant aux échanges. Un site web hébergera un
centre virtuel de ressources européennes.

L'objectif du projet est de développer un dispositif de formation continue pour les
enseignants afin de permettre d'accompagner l'apprenant vers une plus grande
responabilisation à l'égard de son apprentissage et lui donner les moyens de se former
tout au long de sa vie .
Le projet s'adresse aux enseignants et formateurs de l'enseignement agricole.
Les activités s'inscrivent dans une démarche de recherche-action qui s'inspire de la
pratique réflexive et de la démarche de ''learning organisation''. Elles conduiront à collecter,
tester, adapter,évaluer, développer et diséminer de nouveaux processus d'apprentissage.
Seront particulièrement valorisés les résulats des projets Comenius antérieurs, ainsi que
les processus relevant de l'utilisation des TIC
Le projet vise à la création:
- d'un guide pédagogique, à destination des enseignants, proposant de nouveuax matériels
et stratégies pédagoiques, et la manière de les mettre en oeuvre;
- d'un stage européen permettant de former les enseignants à ces nouvelles approches
pédagogiques et de leur permettre d'acquérir les compétences correspondantes . Il sera
l'occasion d'expérimenter le NTIC en formation continue. Ce premier module expérimental
représente pour les réseaux REIFEA et '' East european Countries Pedagocical and
Agricultural Colloquium'' la concrétisation de leur association.

''Literacy difficulties including dyslexia: a transnational project'' aims to design a course
flexible enough to accommodate different literacy and learning needs in various European
countries. This course targets the needs of pupils with literacy difficulties from the start of
formal primary education to fourteen years of age.
The activities will be conducted in five phases: needs analysis, course design, pilot
implementation, evaluation of the pilot and potential areas of follow-up.
The target group will include teachers (a pilot group of 25 teachers from participating
countries at the beginning), policy makers and parents (pilot groups from the participating
countries as well).
The project outputs will be materials outlining different units of the course and the course
itself (a 40 hours course).

''Schools and Museum Cooperation for Improving the Teaching and Learning of Sciences''
aims to: develop an in-service course and related educational materials for science
education in primary school, based on transnational collaboration between educational
instituions and museums involved in teachers' training in science; b) develop pedagogical
methodologies and resources for producing, acquiring and applying knowledge in science;
c) offer support to teachers in terms of their professional development and delivery of the
subject in a competent and confident way that can also encourage pupils' development;
and d) raise teachers' (and pupils') awareness of the shared, European scientific heritage.
The target groups are: primary school teachers, headteachers, advisory teachers, teacher
trainers and educators involved in primary education (such as museum educators).
The duration of the project is three years.
Expected outcomes: training courses for educational staff in science education; jointly
produced book, practical manual and CD-ROM to be used in the course and for wider
dissemination; and website for communication, discussion and distance learning.

and dissemination activities.
The output will be a training course for teachers, a greater consciousness of the target's
learning styles and a CD-ROM with the results of the teachers' training.

Le projet s'inscrit dans l'analyse du phénomène de la globalisation et de ses composants
historiques, dans un cadre pédagogique et didactique Il voudrait souligner les aspects
historiques culturels et socio-économiques
- des relations Europe-Afrique, en mettant l'accent sur l'identité des peuples,
- du racisme,
-du multiculturalisme et/ou de l'interculturalité,
- de l'état-nation,
- des droits de l'homme
Il s'agit d'informer et de former les professeurs de lycée sur les nouvelles données pour un
''aggiornamento'' de leur acquis scientifique et professionnel, et les étudiants universitaires,
futurs professeurs.
Le résultat final sera un cdrom, élaboré par les partenaires et les écoles associées, en
quatre étapes:
1- élaboration du '' guide pour l'histoire générale de l'Afrique '' en collaboration avec
l'UNESCO
2- préparation du contenu didactique pour le cdrom ( textes, documents iconographiques,
cartes, extraits littéraires et filmiques ), grâce à des réunions de travail et des échanges
sur le site web
3- expérimentation du contenu dans les écoles associées
4- rédaction finale et réalisation du cdrom
5- présentation du cdrom au cours de deux séminaires organisés par l'université de Lecce
( IT ) et le secrétariat d'état belge pour la coopération avec le tiers-monde

La mathématique a une importance cruciale dans le curriculum de l'école de base (5-15
ans) , dans la société de la connaissance et de l'information.Ce projet propose la
construction de modèles et matériels utiles aux enseignants sur le plan de la didactique
de la mathématique et des compétences transversales.
Le background de recherche et d'expérimentation des instituts partenaires veut lancer un
défi à l'analyse qui met en évi dence les contrastes entre les divers pourcentages de
succès aux tests internationaux dans les pays concernés
(TIMMS'95)
L'approche méthodologique sera de type interactif entre chercheurs, et enseignants
tuteurs qui assurent des cours.
Des parcours possibles et des outils seront construits à partir du feedback et de ce qui
ressortira de l'évaluation et auto-évaluation des processus et des résultats de l'école.
Les objectifs opérationnels :
- des guides pour relever et interpréter les données qualitatives et quantitatives sur les
obstacles à l'apprentissage et sur les difficultés d'enseignement;
- des exemples et des études de cas selon l'approche de l'usage des informations et du
choix didactique qui en découlera

The project seeks to facilitate pupils' transition from school to work by promoting new
methods of career counselling and the development of a portfolio of competencies.
Six teachers will be trained and act as multipliers in the direct target group of teachers,
and pupils in their final three years of secondary schools will eventually benefit.
The project will go through five phases during its 12 month period:

2. Training of the multipliers in counselling, communication strategies and team work

4. Final conference
5. Dissemination of results
Outputs include a skilled team of multipliers who can transfer their knowledge to other
teachers in their respective school and local environment, a book on the training in three

Utilisation pédagogique du conte populaire
Avec la mondialisation, les frontières tendent à disparaître , et les cultures traditionnelles
sont parfois devenues du,''folklore'' avec toute l'ambiguité que cela comprend .Pour autant ,
la société civile n'accepte pas l'idée d'une homogénéité culturelle, qui plus est,
principalement définie par une culture présentée comme'' supérieure''. Les citoyens
n'accepteront la mondialisation que si celle-ci se construit dans le respect de la diversité.
Pour prendre conscience de cette diversité , les échanges interculturels doivent ëtre
favorisés. Le conte peut être un support favorisant cette approche . Il apparaît comme un
outil pertinent pour comprendre la diversité du monde et promouvoir sa protection.Il devient
un moyen agréable de découvrir ou re-découvrir ce qu'est la paix, la tolérance, l'équité et la
justice sociale, les respects des droits de l'homme et de l'environnement.
Ce projet tend à offrir aux enseignants un nouvel outil pour les aider à transmettre des
valeurs citoyennes.
Pour cela des objectifs ont été ciblés:
- intégrer l'utilisation des contes dans les pratiques d'enseignement, dans le primaire et
dans le secondaire, pour une éducation à la citoyenneté planétaire
- utiloiser l'oralité par le biais des contes d'ici et d'ailleurs pour sensibiliser les jeunes à la

Una scuola per tutti
DESCRIPTION:
Il s'agit d'élaborer et d'expérimenter un cours de formation transnationale, on line, à
distance, transférable, pour les enseignants des écoles de tous niveaux. Ce cours a pour
objet:
- la réduction des inégalités scolaires dans lesquelles se trouvent les élèves enfants
d'immigrants, de tsiganes, et de demandeurs d'asile ;
- la promotion de la formation de ces groupes.
Les activités prévues consistent dans une première phase à rechercher les modalités
d'inserion existantes; à repérer les offres éducatives extra scolaires, et à identifier les
besoins des enseignantsn qui accueillent des élèves appartenant à des groupes à risque,
en matière de formation.
En fonction des données recueillies, des modules de formation seront élaborés ,
expérimentés et évalués dans certaines unités pilotes . C'est ensuite que sera élaboré et
expérimenté le cours on-line.Les compétences acquises seront transférées dans la
pratique didactique afin d'en vérifier l'efficience. Pérodiquement, seront organisés des
séminaires d'approfondissement thématiques auxquels participeront des représentants
des organisations partenaires et des experts externes.
Il est prévu de produire un CD qui reprenne les matériels du cours, une revue on-line et un
site web.

Innovation of Special Educational Needs Support in Regular Education (INSPIRE) is a
project that looks into the different approaches to supporting pupils with special
educational needs in the UK, The Netherlands and Belgium. INSPIRE sets out to try to
answer the following questions: why were these innovative choices made in the three
different countries?; what works and what does not work properly; what will happen in the
near future? what do the teachers and parents feel about all these innovations? which

Compendium:
''Teaching and Learning in a Second Language'' (TL2L) is based on the felt need for further
internalisation and intercultural awareness in education. This project addresses the
negative impact of limited student mobility, national curricula and monolingualism by
providing a structured approach to the inclusion of these elements in teacher training,
where mobility and relevant activities for students that stay at home are integrated.
Joint curriculum development and delivery in a second language (English) will enable the
partner institutions to promote mobility of students and staff and to confront all students
with international and intercultural elements in their curriculum. Simultaneously, the
partners propose to develop atraining programme for (prospective) teachers at plurilingual
schools, which willlead to internationally recognised accreditation. As part of this
programme, students will be able to do a placement abroad.
Target groups include: students that stay at home; those who choose to study at an
institution abroad; and those who intend to teach in plurilingual schools. Plurilingual
schools will benefit as students will contribute materials, work there as trainees and may
find a position at these schools after graduation.
Outputs will include: jointly developed curriculum elements; an (in-service training
programme for plurilingual teachers (content and language integrated learning, CLIL); CLIL
placement abroad; materials and procedures; internationally recognised CLIL
competencies; and a CLIL Terminology database for tutors and students in plurilingual
education.

Teachers are having to cope with incresing demands. These demands, ranging from
multiculturalism to technology, are weighing heavily on teachers' job satisfaction. The
partners (AT,LU, HU, ES) in this project will be looking into the link between increasing
demands and job satisfaction with a view of developing in-service training. Such training
will provide the knowledge and skills in this regard. The ultimate aim of this project is to
help teachers to cope better with the stress of an ever changing world.
The training course will consist of four modules (Professional identity, Co-operation and
communication, Organisation of adaptive learning methods, Theory and praxis concerning
displaying behavioural problems). Shared key points will be team work, regional and
international co-operation, use of NIT, career counselling and in-service, as well as system
analysis. The modules will be piloted in the participating countries through in-SET courses
and then evaluated. The finalised concept will be published on the internet in DE, HU, ES,
and EN. There project may also be included in the Comenius Catalogue.

Das Projet VIA@ARTEM zielt auf den Durchbruch dieser Isolation und auf die Bildung
einer europäischen Plattform zum Informationsaustausch, der zu einem gemeinsamen ''

Le point de départ du projet est un cours de formation pour des étudiants et des
enseignants de musique débutants et pratiquants, existant dans l'établissement
coordinateur depuis 1994. Le cours est destiné aux professeurs du niveau secondaire des
établissements d' enseignement général. Par la combinaison de ces groupes, la formation
des enseignants sera définie d'une nouvelle façon : la formation initiale, la profession et la
formation continue seront compris comme des phases différentes du développement dans
le cadre du '' lifelong development ''. Le cours se base sur des formes fortement
individualisées de l'apprentissage et la mise en réseau continue des pratiques et des
inputs théorétiques, des exercices de techniques d'enseignement et des réflexions dans
le groupe.
Les activités principales du projet sont : un rapport sur l'état actuel de la formation en
tenant en compte le '' lifelong development '', le développement des programmes d'études
existants avec des formes de l'e-learning et l'adaptation aux pays participants. Le public
visé des résultats est bien défini : des enseignants futurs, débutants et pratiquants de
musique du niveau secondaire des établissements d' enseignement général. Durant le
projet le programme d'étude sera testé par une vingtaine d'étudiants à Vienne, le matériel
pédagogique d'e-learning sera testé par 20 personnes dans chaque pays participant.
Aprés la finalisation des produits, les cours seront introduits dans la formation dans les
pays participants.

EUROMATHS.
The project aims, over a period of three years to create materials for teaching about the
EURO and to use the process to enhance generally pupils' motivation towards the learning
of mathematics and its perceived importance.. Learning about the Euro will not only
provide young people with necessary information for life in Europe but also stimulate
interest in Europe generally and feelings of kinship. Not least, the project aims to improve
standards of mathematics teaching in schools about which considerable concern is often
expressed in most Member States.
The partnership consists of mathematics departments in six teacher-training
establishments in FI/DE/PT/UK/IT and HU. The project will create a network between a
number of maths teachers throughout partner countries who will collect examples of how
to teach about money and then divide into three sub-networks, each covering three
different themes: 'Leaning how to use the Euro and the use of money in general in Europe;
Dealing with money (exchange/tourism etc); Money matters in Europe (Stock exchange,
black market etc). This will be shared through a learning environment on the Internet. A
course for maths teachers will be planned and implemented and an interactive CD -ROM
and paper report in all languages of the partnership.

The general objective of the project OUTDOOR EDUCATION : authentic learning in the
context of lanscapes - is to find and compare different perspectives on learning through the
landscape and outdoor life and to use this knowlegde in developing a continuing course in
outdoor education within the teacher training for European teachers.
The specific objectives of the project are: to view the scope of the outdoor and landscape
environment as a learning environment, to train teachers to work thematically and interdisciplinary in this context, to work in situations which can enhance self-confidence
through outdoors which becomes the classroom and which replaces the textbooks, to see
the outdoor classroom as a complement to the indoor environment, to know how children
(and in particular childen with special needs and disabilities) relate to the environment and
think about the environment. This project will be a continuation of the main ideas resulting
from an EU conference in Rimforsa (Sweden). The project will result in in-service training
tools and documents training papers and materials, seminars, exhibitions and magazines
on website on the Internet: an interactive platform will be created during and after the
running of the European in-service training to create a follow-up system.
The project hopes to raise the interest for the pedagogy of outdoor education by
highlighting and sharing the historical/pedagogical roots of outdoor education as well as
the research and empirical evidence of the health perspectives for motorical skills,
concentration and personal growth.

DESCRIPTION:
The main objective of the project Promoting School Safety is twofold: to help teachers and
other school education staff become better equipped to prevent violence in schools and to
create a well tested procedure for dealing with critical incidents in order to promote quality
for education.
The partnership is assembled to ensure a European dimension from different perspectives
and realities, but with a common need to promote better learning and working
environments by combating violent language and behaviour, open violence and sexual and
racial harassment of any kind.
The specific aims of the project are: to train and sensitize teachers and other school staff
in matters related to school safety; to work out plans and concrete methods to prevent and
deal with violence in schools; to produce a European School Safety Kit (including
questionnaires, workshop manuals and guides); and a European School Safety Policy.
The target groups include teachers and other school staff (including members of the
school council).

CFN - Comenius Freshwater Network - a Thematic Network Application
DESCRIPTION:
The main objective of the Comenius Freshwater Network is to promote the networking of
school partnerships and of other European projects working with the theme of freshwater.
The network is inclusive of all interpretations of freshwater and sustainability in the
curriculum including science, geography, environmental education, art and music. The
specific activities of the network have included the creation of a website in Year 1 - a
facility which is now being evaluated and reconstructed. The project team also ran a
successful Contact Seminar for new freshwater Comenius Projects in Year 1 and these
new groups have begun their activities in 2001. In Year 2 the project produced the first
edition of Good Practice Guidelines for this thematic area and ran a pilot training course in
the English Lake District. Activities for Year 3 include the completion of the Guidelines, a
project video and a second training course. This will be featured on the Comenius
Catalogue in January 2002. Project partners will also be working with pilot groups of
primary schools in their own country and we hope to help these schools to link up into
new Comenius School, or Development Projects.
The target groups for the project are mainly teachers and pupils but the CFN also targets
inspectors, advisers and environmental organisations. The partnership itself is very diverse
involving schools, environmental organisations and inservice training establishments.
Ancillary activities have included the evaluation and demonstration of products that are
used by schools in freshwater activities and there is a growing collection of these
educational tools. The new website will enable the partners - many of whom have
substantial experience in this field - to link their activities on the same site with the CFN
project.

''The purpose of this project is to develop a model for teacher training in the area of
citizenship such that pupils will be able to participate actively in the roles and
responsibilities they will encounter in their adult lives as citizens in Europe.
This is a three-year project form a partnership of five institutions from five countries (ES,
FR, NL, UK, CZ).
The project targets the lower secondary school.
The working model to be employed by the project in pursuit of its aim is to consult with
teachers in order to identify good practice both in terms of content and pedagogical
approaches. Based on this research the
modules will be developed. Once the modules have been evaluated, guidelines for teachers
will be developed. An international in-service training seminar is planned for the third year
of the project. This project takes as its rationale the renewed interest within many
countries in the teaching of citizenship in schools and how this might contribute effectively
to the development of active democratic citizenship.
In order-to contribute to this development of active democratic citizenship the project sees
the need to develop an approach to its teaching and learning that is enquiry and actively
based. In order to effectively manage such teaching and learning, the project sees the
need to provide specific training for teachers and to develop a broad range of resources.
This the project hopes to do through this proposal.''

LATECH Improving Teacher Education - the role of language in children's

L'innovation technologique est vitale à la bonne santé socio-économique de l'Europe. Ce
projet a pour objet d'améliorer la qualité de l'enseignement de la technologie dans nos
écoles et collèges grâce à la conception de programmes de formation qui valorisent la
place du langage et son importance cruciale dans le processus d'acquisition d'une
''compréhension technologique'' chez les enfants. Ainsi, l'éducation technologique favorise
en outre les capacités créatrices et imaginatives. Ce projet vise à mettre en évidence
comment les élèves, âgés de 7 à 14 ans, développent leurs compétences à résoudre des
problèmes et à travailler en équipes, grâce aux interactions socioculturelles. Il allie le
développement professionnel des enseignants et la conception fine d'un programme de
formation initiale et continue d'enseignants. Il fournira les preuves empiriques du degré de
compréhension technologique des enfants à travers l'analyse de leur langage et de leurs
actions lors des activités orientées vers une recherche de solutions à des problèmes de
technologie. Les formateurs d'enseignants feront apparaître comment de telles études
peuvent être appliquées dans la classe lors des stages de formation continue et initiale qui
seront conçus dans le but de valoriser à la fois l'innovation et le patrimoine technologique
européen.
Des ressources pédagogiques et des sites Internet seront produits pour illustrer les liens
entre l'acquisition des langages et le développement des savoirs technologiques chez les
élèves. Les différents réseaux constitués pour ce projet se contruisent autour d'une
collaboration en éducation technologique entre les pays concernés et a pour objet
d'enrichir la construction de curricula dans ce domaine.

DESCRIPTION:
''The European Picture Book Collection'' is a European education training course based on
the European picture book materials developed during a three year Comenius funded
project, using material from 15 EU member states. This European school education
training course aims to provide a structure for teachers/teacher educators to help children
to learn more about their European neighbours through reading the visual narratives of
carefully chosen picture books.
The course will be divided into three sections:
- Linguistic Knowledge: familiarisation with EPBC materials and focus on linguistic
similarities and differences
- Literary Analysis: in depth focus on aspects of the visual narratives which texts have in
common, plus identification of those aspects which are culturally specific
- Cultural awareness: drawing together the two previous strands by looking at the universal
childhood themes which permeate the books.
It is hoped that the course will provide children, teachers and teacher educators with the
opportunity to talk about the similarities, and celebrate the differences, which exist
between European cultures. In addition, they will be able to develop greater linguistic,
literary and cultural understanding, as well as a sense of what it means to be European.

TiR - Language Teacher in Residence Project
DESCRIPTION:
The project involves teacher training institutions from UK, AT, CZ, DK, ES, ES. Each
partner is to work with a minimum of 6 schools.
The programme is designed to increase opportunities for pupils to: experience working
with teachers who are native speakers of the pupils' target language; help improve the
quality of modern foreign language (MFL) teaching; enhance pupils' second language
learning experience, thereby increasing their motivation.
One of the stated general aims is to involve not only the children in the schools, but also
their parents, teachers, head teachers, and other adults in the school community in the
learning of the languages concerned and the culture of the participating countries.
In terms of products/outputs, the project aims to develop curriculum modules and
supporting materials to assist teachers moving to work as MFL teachers teaching their
native language in a different member state.
The target groups are mainly trainee MFL teachers about to complete their training
courses, and experienced MFL teachers seeking to teach in another EU state.
The project will in particular devise courses and materials for trainee teachers as they
finish their initial training and spend three weeks as MLF Teacher in Residence (funding for
this to be bid for through Mobility Projects funding).
The Activities will produce materials to:
- prepare teachers for work in a host country before they travel;
- prepare schools and host teachers to receive guest teachers from other member states;
- prepare intensive orientation courses to familiarise guest teachers with their host
country's education systems and MFL pedagogy.
The Language Teacher in Residence Scheme claims to be a unique project in which MFL
teachers from another member state work alongside a host teacher as an additional
classroom resource. It extends a programme piloted in UK to other European States viz.
ES, AT, DK and CZ.

Primary Letter Box
DESCRIPTION:
Primary Letter Box offers the possibility of making real advances in methodology related to
the transition from language awareness to the introduction of reading in the foreign
language.
Once interest has been kindled in the foreign language and culture of its speakers, the
language itself needs to be introduced in order to develop other skills and competences.
One of the key skills to be developed is, of course, reading, but this must be preceded by
a stage of pre-reading, guiding the child along the road that leads to comprehension of
messages written in the target language.
This projects centres on the methodology to be used in the early stages of developing
reading skills. The final product will consist of a box of teaching and learning materials:
dossier of ideas in the languages of the project; video of teachers teaching with the
materials in the different countries; games and reading activities, and internet based
software, which will be available on-line as well as on CD-ROM. This project leans heavily
on new technologies and their integration into teaching of languages as well as into the
children´s independent learning.

The objectives of this project are:

DESCRIPTION:
''ELAP - Early Literacy Assessment Project'' sets out to produce an early literacy
assessment tool to monitor children's progress and identify those at risk of literacy failure
in the early stages of schooling. Training courses will be developed to enhance teachers'
awareness of children's literacy acquisition and to apply their understanding to improve
their teaching.
The target groups are teachers of young children, especially children at risk of social
exclusion, such as travellers, children from ethnic or linguistic minorities or from socially
disadvantaged backgrounds.
The activities will centre around the production of a well-researched instrument in four
languages (Irish, Spanish, Danish, Slovak). It will be tested with groups of children to refine
its sensitivity to profiling early progress and identify those with literacy difficulties at early
stages. Teachers will be trained to use it and courses and materials will be developed to
disseminate its approach.
The expected outputs will be a test of literacy achievement appropriate for each of the
participating countries and training course materials to train teachers in using and
interpreting it.

The Roots and Wings International Project for School Leadership
DESCRIPTION:
The project delivers a framework for three-way transnational partnering between individual
headteachers in order to raise their effectiveness and their impact within schools.
In three partner regions 10 secondary school head teachers will be identified and partnered
to one head in each of the other two regions. Over a 3 year period each head will visit the
countries of his/her partners to undertake leadership development activities and a school
effectiveness project. Approximately 7 days per year will be spent in one of the partner
countries in training and visiting the partner establishment in order to take a school
effectiveness inquiry.
At the start of each yearly cycle heads will meet as a group for focussed development
activities led by coaches. They will then go to the partner schools to undertake the
effectiveness project within the context of the individual school. In the intervening period
between each visit, the heads will communicate with each other electronically. At the end
of the 3 year period the gains will be evaluated and the project reviewed as a model to
develop European leadership. Individual reports, an overall evaluation report and an
international conference will evaluate and disseminate the results.

SEEPS - Developing Sustaining and Evaluating Sustainable Practices in European

As the title indicates, the project aims at enhancing education for sustainable development
and environmental education in primary schools.
SEEPS is designed to support whole school approaches through a school focused model
of teacher initial and in-service education.
The project will revise an existing training unit on change and develop two new units for an
existing Comenius course on sustainable development:
1. Practical environmental management
2. Self-evaluation
Target groups are lecturers training teacher trainers, teachers acting as school based
trainers, student teachers and - as ultimate beneficiaries primary schools, their pupils and
their immediate communities.
The main activities are to identify schools' needs, to pilot, translate and evaluate new
materials and to design European and national courses to disseminate these materials.
The main outputs will be print, disk and CD-ROM versions of the two new units and
enhancing an existing web site on the topic.

DESCRIPTION:
The main objective of the project is to further co-operation between European countries in
the field of consumer education, in the context of citezenship development at the level of
compulsory initial training as well as graduate teacher training.
This project will deal with the following issues: how can consumer education contribute to
a wider vision of the consumer as an active, responsible participant in the development of a
just and safe world? in what ways does the exercise of citizenship include the practice of
aware and critical choices in the marketplace? to what extent are lifestyles which neither
limit the development of other human beings nor destroy the world's environment
prerequisites for being a good citizen?To address the above questions, participants will
work with definiing concepts; analysing and creating curricula, developing and evaluating
teaching plans and materials, and preparing classroom strategies. It also intends to create
interdisciplinary teaching plans, learning materiqls and teaching methods for use in
teacher training as well as strategy plans for nationwide implementation. The results will
be disseminated internationally via established networks of consumer education.

''Water Wisdom - Well-being for the World'' sets out to
- develop an educational module related to the EU Water Framework Directive
- using this module to enhance the innovative use of basic / natural resources in Europe

and use different kinds of pedagogical methods like co-operative learning,
- develop a curriculum which includes the main elements of water conservation.
The partnership will undertake the following activities:seeking and studying information on
water conservation; discussing and deciding the contents of a course for primary and
secondary schools as well as for teacher training institutions (initial and in-service);
producing learning materials; implementing and evaluating the curriculum; and using the
website to disseminate the results.
The target group consists mainly of the participating institutions (teachers and

The outputs will be booklets for primary, secondary and college / university (teacher
training) levels; eLearning possibilities on the web site adjusted on the three levels,
collaborative exercises and games/competitions, films, video and CD.

''JUSTICE - Joint Unifying Strategies for Training in InterCultural Education'' is a
transnational collaborative initiative to develop and deliver a training programme on
Intercultural Education for teachers and educational administrators working in primary,
secondary and higher education. The overall purpose is to offer an in-service accredited
training course for teachers that aims to raise awareness of intercultural and inclusive
education practices.
The activities that would lead to the above achievements will be the production of an
agreed course module and the development of a framework for course delivery accredited
at higher education credit levels. The course will be delivered at least four times in
participating countries over the duration of the project.
The products include: a 100 hours training course; a course handbook; a course resource
pack; and a website.
The target group consists of teachers in primary, secondary and adult education sectors
and staff with specific responsibilities for managing education provision for ethnic minority
learners.

DESCRIPTION:
EMTISM (Empowering mathematics teachers for the improvement of school mathematics)
The project aims to improve the teaching of mathematics in school through the provision of
in-service training material for teachers from primary and secondary education. The
partnership, coordinated by the faculty of education of the Charles University of Prague,
brings together teacher training establishments in UK/ D and a school in SE which has
carried out significant pilot teaching in mathematics. The overall objective is to encourage
more creative involvement amongst pupils in the process of learning and practising
mathematics at school and to combat the passivity among pupils, which characterises
much current practice. The project is planned over a period of three years, with year one
concentrating on gathering materials for 5 topics on which in-service courses will be
based; year two focussing on the testing of the materials in a small number of schools and
year three on the wide dissemination of finished modules through the WEB and other
means by each of the partners.
Keywords for the project are: teaching of mathematics; active learning; changing attitudes
and all of this within the European dimension of a transnational project.

INCLUSIVE - INterpersonal CLues for Understanding in Schools with Interculturally Valid
Education, is a three year project aiming at promoting intercultural education in a broader
sense or education in diversity or inclusive education.
The target groups are primary and secondary school teachers.
The objectives are:
1) to challenge exclusion (for high achievers especially)
2) to combat racism and demonstrate the principle of of advantage in diversity
3) to raise achievements and self-esteem of marginalised
4) to contribute to student-teachers' knowledge about ways to raise achievement
General introduction of inclusive strategies will be accompanied by publication of sample
lessons, of self reflections and insights of teachers, and by case studies of selected
children. These outputs will be placed on a web site and collected in a special booklet

Ziel des Projekts ''Erarbeitung/Entwicklung von alternativen Unterrichtsmitteln und
Fortbildungskursen im Bereich Naturwissenschaften/ Fremdsprachen'' ist die Förderung
der Zusammenarbeit zwischen Schulen und Einrichtungen und die Entwicklung einer
Lehrerfortbildung und von Unterrichtsmitteln und -methoden für Unterricht und Ausbildung
in Fremdsprachen und Naturwissenschaften (Physik, Biologie, Chemie und Geographie).
Im methodischen Rahmen der Waldorfpädagogik sollen durch das Projekt neue
empirische und preisgünstige Methoden und Materialien entwickelt und Unterrichtsmodule
hergestellt werden, die auf den neuesten Forschungsergebnissen und Entwicklungen in
den genannten Bereichen beruhen. Zu den geplanten Maßnahmen des Projekts gehört
auch die Förderung der Ost-West-Beziehungen und der europäischen Dimension.
Bezüglich der Entwicklung des Fremdsprachenunterrichts ist als Ziel die Integration der
Grund- und Sekundarstufen zu erwähnen.
Zielgruppen sind Lehrer und Lehrerbildungsstätten. Im dritten Jahr soll eine Fortbildungsveranstaltung stattfinden. Ferner sollen mit dem Projekt zwei Entwicklungs-werkstätten für
physikalische Geräte in Rumänien bzw. Ungarn unterstützt werden, in denen
Unterrichtsmaterial und -methoden erarbeitet werden können. Die Projektergebnisse
würden im Internet sowie durch Veröffentlichungen und Broschüren bekannt gemacht.
Die Partnerschaft wird aus fünf Partnern aus Rumänien, Deutschland, Ungarn und den
Niederlanden gebildet.

FXTE - FIGHTING XENOPHOBIA THROUGH INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION AND
TRAINING
DESCRIPTION:
''FXTE - Fighting Xenophobia Through Intercultural Education and Training'' is a three year
project which aims at fighting xenophobia and racism in Europe by providing innovative
teacher education and transnational cooperation in four distinct contexts: Polish, German,
Dutch and British schools.
The project has three core objectives:
- to adapt and establish new pedagogical approaches for European teachers, at both the
initial and in-service stages of teacher education, using ICT;
- to develop the role of the school teacher as 'mentor' in promoting intercultural awareness
and recognising diversity;
- to strengthen network cooperation and virtual mobility across four European countries.
The main activities include materials production, exploitation of ICT, workshops and
designing a framework for organising student teacher mobility.
The outputs will be courses, course materials (book and videotape), an international play
written by students from the 4 participating institutions, the publication of an annual letter,
a set of guidelines made available through The European Training Foundation.
The project will target teachers, student teachers, school children and local communities.

Initial training of teachers on partnership relations with parents
DESCRIPTION:
''Initial teacher training for teachers on partnership relations with parents'' project sets to
create a module on parent-teacher relations for initial teacher training. Its objectives
include:
- providing teacher training institutes with a training module on relations with parents to
include in their curricula;
- providing national parents associations with trained, recognized parent trainers with the
abilities and competence to work with teacher training institutes.
- disseminating the training module to a broader audience of teacher training institutes
through the use of an IT portal.
In the first year of its operation, the partnership will: establish the IT portal; undertake a
survey of the current situation in the curricula of the participating institutions; and organise
4 partnership meetings.
During the second year, the partners will: start implementing the course; train teacher
trainers from all participating countries on the use of the module; disseminate the module
via the IT portal; and organise an evaluation meeting and a final conference.
The target groups include: teacher trainers; parent trainers; and future teachers.
The module and the IT portal will constitute the concrete products of the project. In
addition, the project will lead to further training of teachers and curricular improvements in
the area of teacher-parents relations.

MeSPE - Méthode pédagogique et stratégies pédagogiques pour les enseignants
travaillant auprès des enfants tsiganes
DESCRIPTION:
Ce projet naît de la nécessité d'introduire, dans les systèmes éducatifs, des
méthodologies et des expériences qui concernent la dimension interculturelle .
Le but général de ce projet est de :
- diffuser et faire connaître certaines expériences intéressantes dans le domaine de la
scolarisation des enfants tsiganes et autres publics spécifiques
- mettre en commun les interrogations et les éléments de réponses pédagogiques de
chacun
- travaiiler en partenariat pour une meilleure connaissance du monde tsigane
- participer à la sensibilisation des ensdeignants confrontés à des publics présentant une
spécificité culturelle
L'objectif concret est de parvenir à une élaboration commune (Belgique, France, Espagne,
Italie, Roumanie ) d' une méthode pédagogique et des stratégies pédagogiques
directement utilisables par les enseignants , sur les thèmes de la psychopédagogie
centrée sur l'apprenant , et de l'éducation interculturelle.
Les groupes cibles sont les enseignants qui travaillent auprès d'élèves tsiganes et autres
publics culturels spécifiques , au niveau de l'école primaire et secondaire; ainsi que les
enfants tsiganes .ju
