Le douzième congrès annuel de l’ACPLS a eu lieu à Winnipeg au Holiday Inn. Le thème
était : Prenez une langue seconde à coeur. Le tout a commencé avec plusieurs
présentations telles que l’ouverture donné par l’Honorable Pearl McGonigal, lieutenantegouverneure Manitoba, suivie par le conférencier, J. Lapierre, Secrétaire parlementaire
auprès du Ministre responsable du Secrétariat d’État. Il y a eu également du
divertissement musical, fourni par la chorale de l’école Sacré-Coeur, par la Winnipeg
Mennonite Children’s choir et le CHAI Folk Ensemble.
La deuxième journée s’est déroulée avec une présentation par le Dr. H.H. Stern,
conférencier principal, qui a donné un discours intitulé : Let’s use our heads to reach their
hearts. Puis, il y a eu plusieurs ateliers donnés en nombreuses langues, y compris, le
français, les langues autochtones, l’anglais, l’allemand, l’ukrainien, l’espagnol et l’italien.

Il y a eu un déjeuner le vendredi après-midi organisé par la ville de Winnipeg, et
l’animatrice était Judy Bilenski, présidente de MATF. Le banquet offert durant la soirée
était organisé par la Province de Manitoba, et le conférencier était Principal Maureen
Hemphil, Ministre de l’Éducation. Il y a eu également un programme culturel, dont le
Maître de cérémonies était le premier-président de MATF, Jeff Carter. Il a eu une variété
de spectacles, y compris, le Kayumanngi Dance Troupe, le Winnipeg C.Y.M.K. Ukranian
Dance Ensemble dont les chorégraphes étaient Irka Balan et Ben Wasylyshyn et
finalement le groupe 40 Below Mime Inca présenté par The Guisuppe Condiello Mime
Troupe.
Au cours de la dernière journée de la conférence, il a eu une séance plénière et le discours
fut prononcé par Stuart Beaty, Bureau du Commissaire aux langues officielles dont le
thème était : L’État des langues secondes à travers le Canada. La journée s’est donc
terminée avec l’Assemblée générale annuelle de l’ACPLS avec l’invitée Janet Poyen,
ancienne présidente de CPF.
The 12th Annual CASLT Annual Conference took place In Winnipeg at the Holiday Inn.
The theme was: Take a Second Language to Heart in Manitoba, the Heart of the continent
and the Chair was Caterina Sotiriadis. The whole event got started off with various
presentations including the official opening which was given by The Honourable Pearl
McGonigal, Lieutenant-Governor of Manitoba, followed by the Guest Speaker Louis J.
Lepierre, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of the Secretary of State. As well, there
was some musical entertainment provided by the Sacré-Coeur Children’s Choir, the
Winnipeg Mennonite Children’s Choir and the CHAI folk ensemble.
On the second day of the conference, there was a presentation by the keynote speaker Dr.
H.H. Stern, and his speech was entitled: Let’s use our heads to reach their heart.
Following that, there were the many workshops given in many languages including
French Native Language, English, German, Ukrainian, Spanish, and Italian. The session

There was a lunch that afternoon hosted by the City of Winnipeg, the master of
ceremonies being Judy Bilenski, president of the MATF. The banquet later on that night
was hosted by the province of Manitoba. The guest speaker was the Honourable
Maureen Hemphil, Minister of Education. There was also a cultural program, the Master
of Ceremonies being the first president of MATF, Jeff Carter where there was a variety of
performances including: the Kayumanngi Dance Troupe, Winnipeg C.Y.M.K.; the
Ukrainian Dance Ensemble Choreography done by Irka Balan and Ben Wasylyshyn; and
40 Below Mime Inc, presented The Guisuppe Condielle Mime Troupe.
The final day of the conference, there was a plenary session which took place, the chair
being Stuart Beaty, Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages, and the theme
was The State of Second Languages across Canada. Then to end everything off, there
was the CASLT Annual General Meeting with guest Janet Poyen, past president of CPF.
