Wild Rice is one of nature’s finest delicacies now enjoyed by millions
of people throughout the world. It is high in fibre, low in fat, has 50%
more protein than white rice and is gluten free. Wild Rice was first
introduced to Europeans in the 1600’s and supplied the necessary
protein to survive the winter months in Canada’s harsh climate.
The organic wild rice is harvested in the Boreal Forest of Northern
Saskatchewan, which is one of the most pristine environments in
Canada. Wild Rice is the only cereal grain native to North America
which produces an annual seed that is large enough to be harvested
for food. This has been a staple in the Native Indian’s diet for 1000”s

Products
The Government of Canada’s Organic Products Regulations define
the requirements for products to bear the “Canada Organic” logo.
The regulations came into effect on June 30, 2009.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is responsible for the
monitoring and enforcement of the Regulations. Certification Bodies are accredited based on the recommendation of CFIA-designated
Conformity Verification Bodies. The Certification Bodies are responsible for verifying the application of the Canadian Organic Standards.
Imported products must also meet the requirements of the Organic
Products Regulations. When imported products bear the logo, the
statement “Product of”, immediately preceding the name of the
country of origin, or the statement “Imported from”, must appear in
close proximity to the logo or the designations.

L’Agence canadienne d’inspection des aliments (ACIA) est responsable de la surveillance et de l’application du Règlement. Conformément aux dispositions du Régime, des organismes de certification
sont agréés sur recommandation des organismes de vérification de
la conformité autorisés par l’ACIA.
Les produits importés doivent aussi se conformer aux critères du Régime Bio-Canada. Dans le cas où le produit importé porte le logo,
l’inscription « produit de », qui figure immédiatement avant le nom
du pays d’origine, ou l’inscription « importé », doit apparaître à proximité du logo ou des inscriptions.
