OCEA Fall Symposium Chair Message
Hello, Bonjour, Wachiya!
Welcome to a new academic year and welcome to a new year in Cooperative Education and all
other forms of Experiential Learning!
The 2016 OCEA Fall Symposium is fast approaching. The program is now live and ready for
online registration (www.ocea.on.ca). Yet another fantastic OCEA professional development
opportunity is here! Workshops are designed to meet the needs of all, from the NEW to
Cooperative Education and Experiential Learning to those veterans of the many related
programs; the 2016 OCEA Fall Symposium promises to be a hit!
Connecting Students ↔ Connecting Pathways is a timely theme as we prepare to embrace a
new policy relating to Cooperative Education and Experiential Learning. The workshop options
are rooted in the traditional offerings; at the same time, many workshops branch off to explore
new technologies and ideas that will frame how we look at and implement future of Experiential
Learning opportunities for our students
In addition to 36 insightful workshop sessions, the 2016 OCEA Fall Symposium will include
updates from both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Labour. The planning committee
is also delighted to announce that Rob Ellis will be in attendance. Rob will share his story and
compelling safe at work message.
The 2016 Symposium will once again offer workshop sessions especially for Board Leads and
Coordinators.
When registering online for the Symposium, you will have the option to select your main meal
preference for the Sunday Dinner... the default option is chicken; however, if you click on the
drop-down menu you will see that there are three options to choose from: Chicken, Beef or a
Vegetarian meal! This option was well received last year; Chef has once again accommodated!
Review the Symposium program, renew your OCEA membership and register today for the
2016 OCEA Fall Symposium – WWW.OCEA.ON.CA! Have fun selecting workshops!
Please do not hesitate to make your room reservation as rooms in The Village are going
quickly!
We look forward to seeing you once again at Blue Mountain Resort in Collingwood, Sunday,
October 23rd and Monday, October 24th, 2016!

MEMBERSHIP, SYMPOSIUM AND CONFERENCE FUNDING
As Cooperative Education and other forms of Experiential Learning
teachers, united as one, our voices will be stronger and clearer if
represented by the provincial association known as the Ontario
Cooperative Education Association (OCEA).
Collectively, we provide resources, documents and invaluable information. In addition, we have
an annual fall symposium, usually held in October, and an annual spring conference, usually
held in April, that you will find most rewarding.
We strongly encourage you to become an OCEA member in order to help us demonstrate and
promote our dedication and commitment to Cooperative Education and other forms of
Experiential Learning in Ontario.
Membership has its privileges:
http://www.ocea.on.ca/index.cfm?fuseaction=content&menuid=19&pageid=1022
Questions and Answers:
How do I get funding?
o
First ask your department head if there is money in the budget to cover the cost
of the membership.
What if they don't have any money?
Ask:
o
o
o
o
o
o
o
your principal if the school fund could cover it;
your OYAP Coordinator;
your SHSM Lead;
your Student Success Lead;
your Co-op Consultant;
your Subject Council Chair;
your union representative;
Are there any additional sources?
Some boards have PD/Conference funding - but you should apply early in
semester one, before the funds are no longer available.
o The New Teacher Induction Program (NTIP) Coordinator is another place
teachers in their first 2 years of employ can go http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/teacher/induction.html

http://www.ocea.on.ca/index.cfm?fuseaction=content&menuid=19&pageid=1022
Questions et réponses :
Comment obtenir un financement?
o
fonds de l'école;
à votre coordonnateur ou coordonnatrice du PAJO;
à votre responsable de la MHS;
au responsable ou à la responsable de la réussite des élèves;
à votre conseiller ou conseillère pédagogique en éducation coopérative;
à votre présidente ou président de conseil de matière;
enseignant (PIPNPE) – http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/fre/teacher/induction.html
o
