MICROSENS
Oriented to the future since 1993
1993 _ Establishment of the MICROSENS company by
the engineers Dr. Hocine Bezzaoui, Hannes Bauer and
Thomas Kwaterski.
1995 _ The "Fiber To The Office" (FTTO) concept is
developed and lays the foundations for one of the main
business fields at MICROSENS today. In-house manufacturing commences.
2001 _ Industrial networking, a new trend-setting product division. Development of a redundancy mechanism
for constructing fault-tolerant ring networks.
2003 _ The latest product generation of optical multiplexing systems achieves transmission capacities of up
to 2.5 Gbps per channel. MICROSENS is chosen as IT
company of the year.
2006 _ The entry of the new majority shareholder means
that MICROSENS becomes part of the strongly expanding, high yield euromicron group. This sets the course
for further growth.
2007 _ MICROSENS introduces a new transmission
platform for high speed services. The flexible transmission system supports data transfer speeds of 10 Gigabit
per transmission channel.

MICROSENS products are used on all continents of the world.
Worldwide customers put their trust in the innovative concepts and in quality „Made in Germany“.
All the information comes together at the company headquarters in Hamm in Westphalia (Germany). Here qualified
employees develop and manufacture most of the high tech
products. Extensive laboratory and field tests, as well as
continuous monitoring of all processes, ensure the quality
of all components. Each individual device that leaves the
production facilities in Hamm is tested for its functionality.
New ideas are incorporated directly in the Development
department via the central sales department, which is in
direct contact with the end customer.
Sales teams in their own subsidiaries in France and Poland
maintain contact with the customers in their region. Together
with system integrators worldwide, MICROSENS realises
sophisticated projects with high-performance technological
components.
2011 _ MICROSENS expands its optical communication
competence by acquiring TeraMile GmbH. The business
unit continues to be run in the form of a profit centre.
2013 _ MICROSENS presents Generation 6 - a newly
developed, ground-breaking platform for constructing
professional building and industrial networks. Transmission system for wide area networks with 100 Gbps
is introduced.

The Profi Line Modular series from MICROSENS offers top
performance and flexibility in confined spaces. With its modular design, it allows demand-driven expansions and keeps
initial investment to a necessary minimum. Only that which is
actually needed is installed and only once it is needed - „pay
as you grow“ in the true sense.
The hardware of the Profi Line Modular switches is already
designed today to be ready for future functions that are easy
to activate by means of firmware upgrades. High-performance switching chipsets combined with a powerful ARM
processor offer significant investment protection.
The innovative approach is taken of saving the switch
operating system, the firmware and the configuration data
on the SD card in the basic switch module. If the module
is replaced, the SD card is simply replugged. No laborious
reconfigurations, no installing software images, just the
shortest possible recovery time.

everywhere performance, network security and productivity

The maximum expansion stage of the Profi Line Modular switches is 25 Gigabit
Ethernet ports. Further modules are planned, for example for common industrial
bus technologies or with simple I/O ports. The backplane, also modular designed,
is expanded with every module. This means that no valuable space is squandered
in the wiring cabinet. The mechanical stability is maintained with every expansion - this is ensured with an elaborate mechanism that locks into place solidly
and is unlocked again centrally.

The main feature of this power supply unit is the insensitiveness towards electrical
interference, which is crucial, especially for applications prone to failure. Further
important properties are the high efficiency, extended temperature range, the
compact dimensions and simple installation (snap-on) on DIN rails.

W. The output voltage of 48 VDC can be set directly on the power supply unit up
to 56 VDC, which is of special significance for PoE+ (according to IEEE 802.3at

The permissible temperature range extends from -40..+85°C. These SFP transceivers usually have an integrated digital diagnostic function and are designed
for Fast Ethernet (100Base-FX) or Gigabit Ethernet (1000Base-SX/LX), depending on the version. Multimode and single mode versions are available for this
purpose for selection with adapted optical budget. SFPs are optionally available
for transmission via a simplex fiber optic (see following page). Here the sending
and receiving channels are transmitted via different wavelengths.

Description
Besides standard SFP transceivers, MICROSENS also offers special versions
for bidirectional optical data transmission via one single mode fiber optic core
(simplex). This is possible through the use of different wavelengths for the two
transmission directions (WDM method - Wavelength Division Multiplexing) and
implementation of a wavelength-sensitive filter on the receiver side. This way
the transmission capacity of a duplex fiber optic can be doubled in a simple way.
The transceivers are always used in pairs and typically work with wavelengths
of 1310/1550 nm or 1310/1490 nm. Graded transceiver versions enable direct
coupling over distances up to 80 km.
The SFP transceivers are designed for the extended temperature range of
-40..+85°C. They generally include an integrated digital diagnostics function and
are designed for Fast Ethernet (100Base-FX) or Gigabit Ethernet (1000Base-SX/
LX) depending on the version.

Devices used in these areas must never produce an energy density in normal
operation that is sufficient to ignite ambient gases and dust.
Data transmission via fiber optic cables (FO) is predestined for use in potentially
explosive environments, as they work without voltage, i.e. there are no critical
energies transmitted in the form of electrical currents. Nonetheless, even the
optical power in a fiber optic can ignite explosions.

The connectors for single mode fiber optics are further divided into standard
angled polish (PC = Physical Contact) and 8° angled polish (APC = Angled Physical
Contact). With the use of standard colours, the connectors are easily recognizable:
standard (PC = blue) and angled polish (APC = green).
The standard patch cables are designed as a duplex cable (2 fibers for two-way
transmit / receive) and the standard lengths are 1, 2, 3 and 5 m. Other lengths
and simplex versions are available on request.
MICROSENS also provides the matching optical couplers. These are designed
either for snap-in or screw connection. The versions for multimode (beige), single
mode (blue) and single mode angled (green) differ according to colour and quality
(materials, plastic, metal or ceramic).

The network management tool works with device lists that allow the grouping of
network components based on a tree structure. By using ring topology, groups
are automatically generated on the basis of the rings while global settings are
simultaneously assigned.
The Professional version of NMP has an integrated Topology Manager with which
the rings, in particular, can be transparently administrated. Alongside the general
operating parameters, ring connections and their interconnections can also be
specifically monitored.
In the Server version, the NMP is operated on a central server, client access is via
a web interface. Up to 20 parallel accesses can be administrated. For increased
requirements, the NMP server is operated redundantly in a network.

Gigabit ports with extremely compact dimensions at an attractive price. Performance and security are top priorities for the new switch, both in network and

information and control systems, as well as energy technology. Applications like
Wireless LAN and IP video surveillance profit from the integrated power supply

The switch has two GBE combo ports with 10/100/1000T or 100/1000X SFP slot.
These allow a redundant uplink either constructed with copper cables or fiber
optic lines. In the event of a line break, the ring protocol ensures continuing availability. The switch itself can be supplied via the RJ-45 uplink port as a powered
device with Power-over-Ethernet thus ensuring enhanced Switch availability if
the conventional power supply fails.
Sensors and actuators can be integrated via the switch's two I/O ports or the switch
can be connected to an existing alarm solution. The switch operating system,
firmware and configuration data are saved on an SD card. If a switch needs to be
replaced at any time, the new device automatically adopts the configuration saved
on the card as soon as it is plugged in, reducing recovery times to a minimum.

The switch offers a total of 25 Gigabit Ethernet ports of which eight can be expanded to fiber optic connections as combo ports with SFP modules. A total of
16 copper ports offer PoE/PoE+ functionality with which the terminal devices
connected can be supplied with electricity economically and without additional
cabling work.
The fanless switch is operated with a voltage in the range 24..57 VDC and is used
in the extended operating temperature range of -40..+75°C. With its compact
package size of 1 U, it also has two alarm inputs and outputs, for example for
cabinet monitoring or integrating a sensor/actuator.
The Profi Line rack switch was designed for the greatest availability and shortest
recovery times. Industrial ring structures can be established both via SFP ports
or with copper connections. In the event of failure, a special mechanism detects
a fault on a network node or interruption of the line and ensures automatic reconfiguration of the network within milliseconds.
The switch operating system, firmware and configuration data are saved on a
SD card. If a switch ever needs to be replaced, the existing SD card is simply
inserted in the new device which automatically accepts all the settings.

The Micro Switch excels by virtue of its compact package and can especially
be used where little space is available, such as in small enclosures or electric
switchgear. With its 45 mm package, the Micro Switch fits precisely in standard
cut-outs and a mounting supplied allows it to be installed directly on DIN rails.
Two mechanical designs are also available for selection - vertical and horizontal.
However, the size is not achieved at the cost of functionality or performance.
With dimensions of 90x45x58 mm, a total of six Gigabit ports are available: five
10/100/1000Base-T ports with Power-over-Ethernet+ (PoE+) according to IEEE
802.3at to connect terminal devices and a fiber optic uplink port. The extended
switch version with two fiber optic uplinks can be used to realise a redundant

The Fiber Protection Switch is suitable for ring and bus topographies. It maintains
the ring topology even with the failure of more than one network element - in the
event of regional power cuts, for instance. Bus topologies profit from the use of the
Fiber Protection Switch too, as in the event of failure of a node, communication
with the downstream network stations is maintained.

switch can be used for constructing data networks in the electricity supply industry, such as power stations, transformer stations and substations, as well as

The accredited Gigabit Switch has 3x 100/1000Base-X fiber optic connections that

The 6-port Fast Ethernet switch has two 100Base-FX fiber optic connections that
allow interconnection to form a fault-tolerant fiber optic ring. A MICROSENS patented mechanism enables reconfiguration within less than 100 ms (milliseconds)
in the event of failure.
The devices are generally equipped with integrated network management. Extensive switch functions can be configured conveniently via web interface / SNMP /
Telnet or NMP software.
An optional version supports full Power-over-Ethernet functionality on all four
RJ-45 subscriber ports in accordance with the IEEE standard 802.3af. An intelligent power management system monitors the current power requirement of
the end devices connected.

5-port Fast Ethernet Switch
The switch allows connection of up to four devices via 10/100Base-TX. The copper
ports automatically adapt to the respective speed of the device connected (10/100
Auto Negotiation). The auto crossing function allows the switch to automatically
recognise the TX port configuration so that the standard patch cable can always
be used.
A 100Base-FX uplink is available for connecting to the central distributor. This
can be operated in half or full duplex mode depending on the requirement. A
further version with two fiber optic ports enables device cascading via the fiber
optic connection.

The main feature of this power supply unit is the insensitiveness towards electrical

The Entry Line series offers graded Gigabit Ethernet switches for harsh environments. Compact switches with up to 8 GBE ports are therefore available. The
basic products are designed for copper-based networks and have 5 and 8 RJ-45
ports with 10/100/1000T.

The 5-port version is optionally available with an SFP port and is therefore outstandingly suitable for use in fiber optic network. The pluggable SFP transceiver
provides top flexibility in the selection of optical connection. The product with the
highest port number of this series has two modular SFP ports.
Ports 7 and 8 may optionally be used via the RJ-45 or SFP port. An important
feature is the dual speed capability of the SFP port. Gigabit Ethernet (1000BaseX) as well as Fast Ethernet (100Base-FX) are supported, whereby this is defined
by a suitable SFP transceiver. In this way Fast Ethernet fiber optic networks can
be easily incorporated into Gigabit structures.

The Entry Line product range offers a wide range of Fast Ethernet switches for
harsh environments. The basic devices have 5x or 8x RJ-45 copper ports. Extended
switch versions are equipped with additional fiber optic ports. For example, in
addition to the 4x 10/100Base-TX ports in the 5-port Switch, a fiber optic port
is available in the multimode or single mode version. The 6-port Fast Ethernet
switch also has two fiber optic ports and can therefore be used for cascading.

Besides the media conversion of copper to fiber optic cables, the devices also offer
speed matching of 10/100Base-TX for Fast Ethernet or of 10/100/1000Base-T for
Gigabit Ethernet to fiber optics. This means that even terminal devices of different
transmission speed can be connected directly with central switches.
The devices are immediately ready for operation; configuration by management is
not necessary. The power supply is via a plug-in terminal (redundant connection),
an integrated switching relay reports any faults in the power supply.

The 24 ports on the front are all dual mode combo-ports, i.e. the ports are designed
both as RJ-45 and SFP ports (48 physical connections). Maximum flexibility in
use is obtained by the fact that the SFP ports are dual speed capable, in addition
to the 10/100/1000Base-T RJ-45 ports. Depending on the network speed, both
Fast and Gigabit Ethernet SFP transceivers can be used.
At the rear of the device there are two further combo-ports (10/100/1000Base-T/

SFP). The device is equipped with an SFP slot, which brings the advantage of
flexibility in relation to the selection of SFP transceivers (multimode and single
mode designs).
The bridging converter supports automatic MDI/MDIX detection, so crossover cables are no longer necessary. Thanks to the robust IP30 housing and the extended
temperature range of -40..+70°C, the bridging converter is especially well suited
