Ever wanted to design a stage? Well, now’s your chance! The Hi-Desert Cultural Center announces an opportunity for the whole community to be involved in its next season of professional live entertainment whether on-stage or off. Celebrating over 41 years, the Cultural Center will host an open house and auditions Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20. The Cultural Center will be hosting the open houses both days from 11:00am until 12:00 NOON to provide an opportunity for residents to see firsthand what is happening at the Cultural Center. “Even if youʼre just curious about what is going on at the Cultural Center, please stop by, enjoy a glass of ice tea, and weʼll give you a little tour,” stated President Jarrod Radnich, who is currently developing entertainment with Disney for its theme park in Anaheim, CA. After each open house, adults and children are welcome to audition between 12:00 NOON until 5:00pm. We are looking for all ages that can act, sing, dance, or play music. Or, if you want to be behind the scenes, you can help build sets in the traditional carpenter shop, design costumes, help with concessions, or even work with state-of-the-art technologies like a 7.2 surround sound system and a computerized spinning lighting system. The Cultural Center plans to build upon last yearʼs successes that included a “Best Comedy” award from the Desert Theatre League and an “Encore” award for theatrical excellence from the Desert Entertainer Magazine. The new season will include four locally built productions in addition to concerts and theatrical entertainment brought in from outside of the area. “To get everyone involved, we wanted a well-rounded season to include a musical tribute, a heart-warming Christmas story, a tragic comedy, and a world premier sequel,” stated Artistic Director Ron House. Specifically, the productions scheduled for the upcoming Blak Box season include: “Pump Boys and Dinettes,” “A Christmas Story,” “Crimes of the Heart,” and “Bullshot Crummond and the Invisible Bride of Death,” a new sequel to the international comedy that was made into a movie by Beatle George Harrison. Individuals interested in auditioning should contact Craig Knudsen at 760.861.5599 to schedule an appointment between 12:00 NOON and 5:00pm on either Saturday or Sunday. Audition sides will be available to download online at www.hidesertculturalcenter.com. PICTURE CAPTION: 3-year-old actress Kalani Powell and Artistic Director Ron House were both featured in last season’s award-winning production of “Another Day In Baghdad” at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center.
