few! days! in! a! new! school! are! always! daunting,! but! our! community!
recognises! this! and! I! have! do! doubt! that! you! will! quickly! adapt! to! our!
welcoming!environment.!

Teaching!started!in!earnest!from!the!first!day!and!sports!and!afterIschool!
activities!have!kickedIoff!with!great!enthusiasm.!

Now,!we!are!almost!at!the!start!of!the!half!term!and!although!the!weather!
has!played!its!part!in!making!the!start!an!enjoyable!one,!credit!must!go!to!
our!teachers!and!students!for!getting!into!a!teaching!and!learning!routine.!
Well!done!!!A!big!thank!you!also!to!our!parent!volunteers!who!immediately!
got! involved! with! the! Jeans! for! Genes! fundraising! drive! and! the! planning!
for!the!Halloween!celebrations.!A!bake!sale!was!organised!to!help!finance!

En!Angleterre,!il!est!d’usage!de!porter!un!uniforme!à!l’école.!Lors!de!Jeans!
for! Genes! Day,! il! est! possible! de! manière! tout! à! fait! exceptionnelle! de!
porter!des!jeans!en!échange!d’!£1.!!
À! l’EIFA,! nous! n’avons! pas! d’uniforme! mais! nous! tenons! tout! de! même! à!
nous!associer!à!cette!juste!cause.!!
C’est!pourquoi,!vendredi!23!Septembre!dernier,!toute!l’école!de!la!crèche!
au!lycée,!en!passant!par!les!professeurs,!les!membres!de!la!direction!et!de!

Une! vente! de! gâteaux! préparés! par! les! parents! de! l’école! ainsi! qu’une!
vente!de!badges!ont!également!eu!lieu.!
Cette!action!n’est!pas!seulement!une!manifestation!généreuse!de!solidarité!
collective.! Elle! fait! partie! des! valeurs! que! l’EIFA! défend.! Sur! le! plan!
pédagogique,! nos! élèves! sont! amenés! à! réfléchir! à! la! tolérance! et! au!

Year! 7! students! have! been! reading! the! Anne!
Fine!novel,!Flour!Babies,!in!English!lessons.!As!
part!of!their!work!they!had!to!make!and!then!
look!after!their!own!flour!baby!for!a!few!days.!
All! the! babies! were! named! and! registered!
with!a!birth!certificate.!!
!
Some! of! the! babies! had! a! better! experience!
with! their! parents! than! others;! one! was!
rescued!from!being!carried!around!in!a!closed!
rucksack,!another!was!abandoned!at!home!all!
day! and! another! served! as! a! rugby! ball!! The!
experience! of! looking! after! the! flour! babies!
will!be!written!about!by!the!pupils,!in!both!a!
diary!entry!and!a!formal!report.!
Journey! to! Jo’burg! by! Beverley! Naidoo! has! been! the! text! studied! by! the!
Year!8!students.!We!have!used!it!to!find!out!more!about!the!experiences!of!
life! for! the! nonIwhite! population! in! apartheid! South! Africa.! Pupils! have!
researched! and! prepared! work! for! a! display! on! the! book;! before! the!
holidays!they!will!be!writing!newspaper!articles!based!on!the!events!of!the!
text.!!

My!name!is!Lukas!Saulich!and!I!am!the!new!Maths!teacher.!
!
Since!I!remember,!I!always!wanted!to!work!with!children.!I!have!found!it!as!
one! of! the! most! challenging! and! fulfilling! jobs,! where! one! needs! to!
combine! all! the! professional! and! personal! skills,! choosing! different!
approaches!and!different!teaching!styles.!Teachers!have!the!opportunity!to!
highly!influence!the!mind!of!the!new!generation!and!be!part!in!forming!of!
their! personalities.! I! like! sharing! my! professional! and! personal! skills,! and!
experiences! with! them.! ! My! aim! is! to! inspire! students! to! achieve! better!
results.!

After! obtaining! my! Master! degree! at! Charles! University! in! Prague! I! have!
become!a!high!school!teacher!(14!to!18!years).!!I!was!teaching!Maths!and!
P.E.! at! one! of! the! most! successful! schools! in! Czech! Republic,! Jan! Neruda!
Grammar! School! (CzechIFrench! bilingual! school).!I! am! convinced,! that!
Maths! and! P.E.! are! the! ideal! combination! subjects! referring! to! antic!
kalokagathia! –! harmonious! in! mind! and! body.! They! are! both! responsible!
for! such! a! skills! as! creativity,! problem! solving,! hard! working,! planning,!
