It’s not just the inner values of the S6 which make such an impact: its V8 TFSI
engine with cylinder-on-demand technology, the quattro® permanent all-wheel
drive and the individually programmable Audi drive select. Its exterior is highly
impressive too, thanks to the aluminium hybrid construction employed in the
creation of its elegant lines. This is just one way in which Audi is helping to make
careful use of resources. And is once again demonstrating how dynamism and

To properly stamp your
authority, you have to
adopt a clear line.
The car’s elegant body is composed of light, crisp lines. The
powerful tornado line that runs below the windows emphasises its sporty nature. The Audi S6 appears to be urging
forward. The Singleframe grille with its horizontal double
chrome bars in Platinum grey gives the front end an electrifying air, which is further reinforced by the bumper’s muscular styling.

Every detail of the rear end is brimming with sportiness too. The S logo can be
found on both the vehicle’s tail and at the front. Broad side sills and two sets of
chromed twin tailpipes mark the perimeters of the vehicle’s body. The Platinum
grey rear diffuser features a striking metallic-look cross strut that gives it an
especially sporty air. A rear spoiler puts the finishing touch to a superb visual
performance.

Efficient technology with a sensational look: the xenon plus headlights feature the characteristic strip of LED daytime running light
as well as the highly intelligent adaptive light system to help you
see round bends. As an option, innovative LED technology can be
used for the entire headlight unit. The light from LEDs is almost as

The Alcantara/leather sports seats offer outstanding support, even when putting
the car’s performance abilities to the test. They come with electric 12-way adjustment and a distinctively designed upper backrest section with embossed S6 badge.
You can, however, also choose to have your S6 fitted with Super sports seats, featuring even more prominently contoured side sections and integral head restraints.
To create even more loading space, the rear backrest can be folded flat with a
60:40 split.

Avant. A two-piece electrically operated panoramic glass roof offers you a
whole new sense of freedom. Its roof spoiler generates additional downforce

The Audi S6 in figures: V8. 4.0 TFSI. Substantially lower CO₂ emissions compared to its predecessor. Its 309 kW are accompanied by a mighty 550 Nm of
torque and propel the Audi S6 from 0 to 100 km/h in under 5 seconds. With
innovative cylinder management, the start-stop system and a new system of
thermal management, this is one high-performance athlete that can boast
excellent efficiency too. It is this more intelligent breed of power that endows
the Audi S6 with its uniquely progressive style of superlative sportiness and
sensational dynamism.

Perfect for taking corners with masterful ease: the quattro® permanent
all-wheel drive with optionally available sports differential effortlessly
keeps the Audi S6 on track, while the optional ceramic brakes* bite with
immense power if necessary. The S tronic 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that has been customised for the S6 shifts gear extremely fast and

Audi drive select allows you to drive any road as the mood takes you – a total of
five modes are available to choose from, which adapt the vehicle’s characteristics to how you feel. The efficiency mode can be selected for particularly fuelefficient driving. And allied to the new adaptive air suspension sport, Audi drive
select paves the way for an even sportier experience at the wheel. The electronically controlled air suspension tailors the ride height to the chosen mode. At
speeds above 120 km/h, the ride height is adjusted proactively.

Hard at work under the bonnet of the Audi S6 is
a V8 4.0 TFSI engine featuring the innovative
new Audi cylinder-on-demand technology. This
keeps just four of the eight cylinders operating
at partial throttle – without you noticing any
difference. The engine continues to run smoothly
and powerfully, but its fuel consumption and
CO₂ emissions are reduced accordingly. This
method of operation is what we call “intelligent
performance”. Audi cylinder on demand selectively closes certain cylinders only, two in each
cylinder bank to be precise. As a result, engine
operation is impressively smooth at partial loads
too. Cylinder shut-off is controlled by several
factors: the engine speed must be between
930 and 3,500 rpm, for instance, the engine
temperature must be at least 40 °C, and you
must be driving in at least third gear. If the full
power of all eight cylinders is not required, the
Audi valvelift system will close the intake and
exhaust valves as well as shutting off injection
and ignition for the relevant cylinders. In other
words, no air is drawn in, fuel injected or exhaust
gases discharged. Or, put another way: there is
a substantial improvement in the fuel consumption and emissions figures. The V8 4.0 TFSI engine is additionally equipped with a start-stop
system as well as energy recovery, and meets
EU5 emissions limits, of course. The unit employs the Audi valvelift system, which generates
higher torque while cutting fuel consumption.
The quattro® permanent all-wheel drive system
with sports differential helps to fulfil the powerplant’s dynamic performance potential. Thanks
to its remarkably spontaneous response and
exceptional power delivery across the entire rev
range, the V8 engine also enables the car to
be driven in an effortlessly sporty manner. Its
309 kW output and 550 Nm of peak torque
catapult the S6 Saloon from 0 to 100 km/h in
4.8 seconds, and the S6 Avant in 4.9 seconds.
The engine is electronically governed to a top
speed of 250 km/h.

With quattro®, we have created one of
the best all-wheel drive systems in the world.
Of course, that was not good enough for us.
quattro® is a permanent all-wheel drive system.
If the wheels on one axle of the vehicle lose grip
on the road and threaten to spin, then the power
is transferred to the other axle – automatically
and permanently distributed through the centre
differential. The basic distribution is 40:60 –
40% of the power comes from the front axle,
60% to the rear. The benefit is better traction
during acceleration and greater safety due to
the improved grip. So much for the technology.
But what makes quattro unique is really the
driving feel. “As if you were stuck to the road,”
some customers say. We put it like this: quattro
gives you more feel for the road – combined with
added safety.
quattro® with sports differential further reinforces this unmistakeable quattro feeling. Vehicles
tend to experience understeer when steering or
driving into corners. This is a normal physical process: a moving object opposes a change in direction. The elastic tyres and suspension mounts
tense up until the new direction has been adopted. When accelerating into a corner, the load on
the front axle is reduced and it therefore transfers less lateral force to the tyres – the vehicle
understeers. With the sports differential on the
rear axle, the tendency to understeer is counteracted.
This is because the quattro rear axle differential
has been extended left and right by a clutch
system with two gear levels. These ensure that
the individual wheels on the rear axle receive
different levels of drive torque. The clutches
are activated by an electrohydraulic actuator.
Depending, for example, on the steering angle,
lateral acceleration, yaw angle and driving speed,
the system calculates the right distribution of
wheel torque for any driving situation. In this way
the power is specifically channelled to the outer
rear wheel, when steering or accelerating into a
corner.

Fully load-bearing air springs at the
vehicle’s front and rear axles produce
a sporty yet comfortable ride.
Dynamism and comfort were once opposites.
We’ve made the differences vanish into thin air.
Every road is different. How nice, then, to not
actually notice the difference! This is possible
thanks to the suspension fitted as standard on
the Audi S6, which adapts to many different driving situations and the road surface. We call it
adaptive air suspension. The system’s air springs
are controlled electronically and separately for
each of the four wheels, and are combined with
continuously adaptive damping. Sensors on the
body and axles keep the system informed of the
changing driving situation while the vehicle is on
the move. The air suspension also ensures the
car’s handling characteristics are virtually unaffected even when heavily laden.
You start to experience the benefits of the adaptive air suspension sport system as soon as you
move off. But it really comes into its own through
bends, where body roll and pitch are reduced
considerably, and both the vibration characteris-
tics and spring travel are kept at an optimum. In
future, uneven roads will be seen but seldom felt.
The Audi S6 is equipped with the new adaptive air
suspension sport system that has been specially
tuned for the S6. It is controlled with Audi drive
select, and is already set up for sportier performance in auto mode. At speeds above 120 km/h,
the suspension is lowered by 10 millimetres.
The virtually continuously variable
damping automatically adapts to
any driving situation with split-second speed. Even with an asymmetrically distributed load, the vehicle’s
permanent self-levelling function
keeps it at a constant ride height.

The future of automotive lightweight construction.
You already notice from a distance the “Vorsprung” inherent to the new Audi S6. This impression is confirmed when the vehicle is broken
down into its individual parts. It then becomes
apparent how lightweight and innovative the
Audi ultra construction really is. This has been
made possible by the 20 years of experience
acquired at the Audi Lightweight Design Centre
in Neckarsulm. Unlike other cars in their class,
the Audi S6 Saloon and the S6 Avant are not
just built from steel, they feature aluminium
hybrid construction. This innovative lightweight
technology, which has until now been employed
predominantly in sports car manufacture, can
deliver lower fuel consumption and greater
agility, meaning increased efficiency.
Thanks to aluminium hybrid construction, the
weight has been reduced in many areas of the S6.
This begins with the chassis, where the use of
aluminium for components such as the control
arms, pivot bearings and wheel carriers helps
to lower weight. The bodywork is a further major
area for the use of aluminium. Aluminium is
used here as a material for the bodywork structure and for all add-on parts. The doors, bonnet,

tailgate and wings are all constructed from
the rigid, lightweight metal. Technologies are
furthermore applied inside the bodywork to
produce varying wall thicknesses and material
properties within a single part. Audi ultra means
material is used exactly where it is required –
without increasing weight in other areas. The
result is a vehicle whose reduced weight clearly
makes its presence felt: in the car’s sporty
agility on the one hand and in its comparatively
low fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions on
the other.

MMI® – Multi Media Interface
Phone: The optional fitting for mobile phone
(Bluetooth) or the Bluetooth car phone online
have a menu screen with call lists, address
book and selection interface as the initial
setting.
MMI® touch: You can “write” with your finger
on the MMI touch. The system recognises letters and numbers. It can be used for navigation
and for your phone. In jukebox mode, you can
also thumb through the albums of your music
collection with a brief stroke of the finger.
Follow your intuition –
and you‘ll get there.
We try to match up to our claim of “Vorsprung
durch Technik” in every aspect of an Audi – such
as in the case of the advanced MMI® – Multi
Media Interface, for example. The MMI is used
to control a wide variety of media in the car, as
well as the navigation system and other convenience functions.
It used to be simple to operate the MMI – and now
it’s even simpler. A reduced number of buttons
brings greater clarity. The control buttons for the
radio and media are logically arranged near the
volume control. The six other buttons, known as
hard keys, used for example for the phone or for
navigation, are on the main turn-and-push control – for intuitive operation. Another new feature
is the carousel mode in the MMI display.
This makes it even clearer to understand, and
you get to your destination even more easily.
The special thing about the optional MMI® navigation plus is the unique MMI® touch. It is
located to the left of the main control panel and
within easy reach, especially in conjunction
with the new gear selector lever. With the MMI
touch you control such functions as navigation
in a new and intelligent way – by “writing” letters
or numbers with your finger on the touch-sensitive control panel. The system acknowledges
your input after each character by means of
audible feedback. You can also browse through
the albums in your music collection on the jukebox – a flick of the finger is all it takes.
Navigation system: The hard disk navigation
system MMI navigation plus with MMI touch
provides a 3D map view and a three-dimensional representation of well-known buildings
and sights.
Media: Display of available media sources
such as jukebox, inserted SDHC cards, Audi
music interface or CDs and DVDs; display of
optional TV tuners.

Audi connect: Traffic information online
You not only get the right route to your
destination but the quickest one too.
In addition to traffic flow information, traffic
information online provides faster information on the formation and dissolution of
traffic jams for dynamic route guidance as
well as greater coverage of the road network.
Audi connect: Travel information/weather
provides weather forecasts and relevant information, such as charts and weather maps
relating to the destination. Audi connect:
News online provides comprehensive news
items about current world events.
Audi connect: Navigation with Google Earth images and Street View* enables navigation with
high-resolution aerial and satellite images, photographs, topographical features, roads and their
designations, and business entries. In Street View* you can form a realistic picture of your destination even before you arrive. With the Google point-of-interest (POI) search function with voice
control, you get detailed tips about holiday destinations, opening hours or visitor reviews, and
you have access to the entire breadth of the Google Internet database wherever you may be.
Destination input by means of myAudi or Google Maps enables you to plan your route on your
home computer with individual navigation destinations, and then send it to the vehicle. When
you start your journey the planned route is loaded into MMI navigation plus.
Audi connect.
Mobile information services offer the ultimate
connection. With Audi connect you can easily
search the Internet via Google for any special
destinations in the MMI®, or retrieve the latest
news and the current weather forecast for the
intended navigation destination. Data transfer
is by means of the UMTS module of the Bluetooth car phone online, which can be ordered
as an option for the MMI® navigation plus with
MMI® touch. One special feature is the WLAN
hotspot. With a laptop, an iPad or a netbook
you can retrieve important information, data
and e-mails just as conveniently as in your office
at home. There is an application for Internet
radio* available for some smartphones. Detailed
information about availability, usage rights and

The static cornering lights automatically come on when
the turn signal is activated for a certain length of time at
low speeds, casting light in the new direction of travel.
A camera on the interior mirror detects light sources
from other road users for the continuous headlight
range control system. In this way, the range and width
of the headlight beams can be continuously adjusted to
the surroundings between dipped and high beam so that
they provide good visibility without dazzling other road
users. In addition to that, three different headlight distribution profiles are available that are activated depending on the vehicle’s speed: urban light, motorway
light and extra-urban light. Audi connect furthermore
enables the navigation-data-based vehicle assistant to
switch between these three light distribution profiles
with the help of the route data stored in the optional
MMI navigation plus with MMI touch. The junction light
with wide front illumination and the travel mode with
GPS-aided changeover between right-hand and left-hand
traffic round off the lighting assistant’s convenience
functions

Networked mobility. The term Audi connect brackets together all applications and developments that connect
up present-day and future Audi models with the internet, the owner and the infrastructure. Audi connect
creates infotainment and entertainment functions and
takes comfort and automotive enjoyment to a new level.
A UMTS module integrated online into the Bluetooth car
phone, in conjunction with the customer’s SIM card in
the vehicle, enables online information (such as navigation with POI search, Google Earth and Street View images, weather, news, Audi traffic information online¹,²,
Internet access³) to be transmitted directly to the Audi
S6, where it is integrated into the vehicle. The optional
Audi MMI navigation plus with MMI touch facilitates
the use of these Audi connect services. A WiFi hotspot
makes it possible to access the internet from the rear
while on the move and from anywhere in the vehicle
when stationary using a portable end device.
Audi connect services are only available for mobile phone
contracts including a data option and only within the
mobile phone networks’ range of coverage. Depending
on your mobile phone tariff, and particularly when used
abroad, additional costs may be incurred for receiving
data packages from the internet: due to the high volume
of data involved, a contract with a flat rate for data is
strongly recommended. Your mobile phone provider will
be able to give you more detailed information. Audi connect is available in all the countries of Europe with the
exception of Turkey, Malta, Cyprus and Iceland; in Russia,
only in the Moscow and St. Petersburg areas.
A separate mobile phone contract may have to be purchased in order to use the Audi connect services and the
WiFi hotspot. Your mobile phone provider will be able
to give you more detailed information. Your Audi partner
will inform you about the availability of the individual
Audi connect services in your vehicle. On request, you
can have your Audi factory fitted with a WiFi hotspot for
wireless internet access. The inclusion of a WiFi hotspot

of the high data volumes involved (at present particularly for navigating with the help of Google Earth images
and WiFi hotspot), a mobile phone contract with a flat
rate for data is strongly recommended. The content and
scope of the Audi connect services offered can vary and
they are only available for mobile phone contracts including a data option and only within the mobile phone
networks’ range of coverage; using the services will incur

Audi pre sense basic
By networking various vehicle systems, driving situations
can be categorised and measures for preventive occupant protection initiated as needed. These include: tensioning the seat belts, activating the hazard warning
lights and closing the windows and, if fitted, the sunroof
adaptive cruise control with stop & go function
including Audi pre sense front
Automatic distance control (control range 0–250 km/h);
it uses two radar sensors and a camera to detect vehicles
ahead, within system limits, and maintains a set distance by automatically braking and accelerating; independent braking to a stop, automated restart at driver’s
request; 4 distance levels and 4 driving modes (efficiency, comfort, dynamic and auto) can be selected individually. Audi connect services can be used in conjunction
with MMI navigation plus: using route data stored in the
navigation system, such as the sweep of bends or road
classifications, the distance can be controlled with an
even greater degree of comfort when following another
vehicle on a winding road, for example.
In addition to the functions of Audi pre sense basic, Audi
pre sense front is able to activate preventive protection
measures in the event of an imminent head-on collision
too. These include Audi braking guard with driver warning using an enhanced brake assist system plus preventive occupant protection. Audi pre sense front uses the
front sensors of the adaptive cruise control with stop &
go function for detection, within the limits of the system. Extension to include a full brake application function: this is initiated at speeds below 30 km/h when
there is a risk of a collision with a moving or stationary
vehicle in order to reduce the severity of the impact or
avert the collision where possible. Audi pre sense plus is
included if Audi side assist is also ordered. In addition
to the functions of Audi pre sense front, Audi pre sense
plus activates the Audi braking guard in certain situations where a collision is unavoidable, causing it to initiate a full brake application to lessen the impact’s severity by reducing the speed by as much as 40 km/h
Audi side assist including Audi pre sense rear
Lane changing assistant, assists the driver within system
limits when changing lanes (operating range 30–250
km/h). Displays are integrated into both exterior mirrors. Audi side assist uses 2 radar sensors to measure
the vehicle’s distance from other vehicles it has detected
as well as the speed difference between them. If Audi
side assist classifies the speed difference and distance as
being critical in the event of a lane change, a display will
appear in the respective exterior mirror. In addition to
the functions of Audi pre sense basic, Audi pre sense
rear, working within system limits, uses the rear sensors
of Audi side assist to detect a possible rear-end collision.
Audi pre sense plus is included if adaptive cruise control
with stop & go function is also ordered. In addition to
the functions of Audi pre sense front, Audi pre sense

Audi active lane assist
Lane departure warning system, conveniently helps the
driver to stay in lane, within system limits (operating
range 60–250 km/h). If the system is activated and
ready and the driver has not operated any turn signals,
the Audi active lane assist will help guide the vehicle
within recognised lane boundary lines by means of gentle, corrective steering inputs; the driver can choose
whether he would like to be assisted continuously or just
shortly before crossing the lane markings (choice of early or late steering points); vibration of the steering
wheel can additionally be adjusted as the driver wishes;
additional display in the head-up display (optionally
available)

Night vision assistant with highlighting of detected
pedestrians
with integral thermal imaging camera; when driving at
night, this system extends the driver’s range of visibility
beyond the light provided by the dipped beam; records
thermal images; an image processing algorithm then
evaluates the camera’s data and marks any persons it
has detected in yellow in the optional driver information
system’s colour display; the marking changes to red and
a warning tone is emitted if the system, by analysing the
movement and position of the person it has detected,
considers that there is a possible hazard. Additional

Projects driving-related information from the assistance
and navigation systems or warning messages as required
onto the windscreen in the driver’s direct field of vision;
height adjustable; provides a multicoloured display with
good contrast and minimal distraction from the road
Speed limit display
Camera-based recognition and display of speed limits,
including temporary speed limit displays (e.g. above motorways). A situational evaluation is furthermore carried
out within the system’s limits when driving in the wet,
when there are speed limits for certain times of the day,
