November depicts a traditional rural autumn scene : la glandée. The painting shows pigs in an oak forest with their swineherd and his dog. The man is hitting the trees with his stick in order to fell the acorns for the pigs to fatten up on. The background shows a castle, a river and mountains, a landscape reminiscent of the French Alps – the miniature (circa 1845/ 46) was attributed to Jean Colombe who at the time was working for Charles 1st of Savoy.
